Peter never would have imagined that after returning to Earth, he would inexplicably end up with a "younger brother."
That's right—Richard Rider.
After learning that it was Peter who personally slew Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian, and that Peter had played a crucial role in the operation to kill Thanos—almost serving as the main force in Thanos's death—Richard began idolizing Peter to an extreme degree. He cried and begged to stay with Peter no matter what.
Ahem.
Of course, not the kind of "staying together" you're thinking of.
What he wanted was to take Peter as his master and learn from him.
Peter declined the whole master–disciple thing, but he still took Richard in.
After all, as an alien, Richard Rider really didn't have anywhere else to go on Earth.
Wakanda?Wakanda was populated entirely by Black people and practiced isolationism—it wasn't suitable for an alien to live there.
As for Rogers, Natasha, and the others, although their actions this time could be considered a tremendous contribution to Earth as a whole, how they would ultimately be judged was still up to the LHG.
And until everything was officially cleared, they were still technically wanted.
Then there was the U.S. military, represented by Colonel Rhodes, War Machine.
In theory, they would have been the best party to take in Richard Rider.
But neither Stark, nor Rogers, nor T'Challa agreed with that idea.
They all knew exactly what those people were like.
They had no intention of letting a fifteen-year-old orphaned kid be controlled by them.
Don't doubt it.
Given Richard Rider's identity, if he fell into their hands, there was a very real possibility he'd be used for some shady business.
For example, Peter knew that Ava—who had been injured in a quantum experiment explosion—was taken in by S.H.I.E.L.D. and subsequently trained into the "Ghost" operative.
If Richard Rider were taken in by them, who knew—years later they might end up creating some kind of Nova operative.
Fortunately, Colonel Rhodes seemed to have a bit of self-awareness.
After seeing Richard Rider recover, he deliberately kept his distance from him, as if trying to sever any association.
Everyone noticed this somewhat strange behavior. Though puzzled, they weren't particularly curious about it.
They simply assumed he knew better.
Letting Richard Rider go with any of them was clearly inappropriate.
So he was assigned to Tony Stark.
All things considered, Tony Stark was the only one who actually had the spare time to "take care of a kid."
Besides, the Stark Group was massive—feeding one more mouth was nothing.
However, when Peter brought Richard Rider to see Stark, planning to check on how well Stark's injuries had healed, Stark turned the tables on him.
Using the excuse that "Richard is only one year younger than Peter—perfect to be Peter's little brother," Stark forcibly shoved Richard onto Peter.
And just like that, Peter gained a "younger brother."
Thankfully, although Richard Rider was a Xandarian, he actually looked quite similar to Earth humans.
If he didn't say anything himself, most people wouldn't even realize he was an alien, so integrating properly into life on Earth wasn't particularly difficult.
As for his identity, with Stark backing him, settling it was extremely simple.
Before long, Richard Rider acquired an Earth identity.
He was a fifteen-year-old transfer student from Arizona. After his parents died in an accident, Happy Hogan became his legal guardian, and he moved to New York to live there.
That's right—Stark had his head of security serve as Richard's legal guardian.
Happy was utterly speechless about it.
He had finally finished being the liaison for Peter, that little brat. Just when Peter had matured enough to stand on his own and Happy was about to breathe a sigh of relief, another one was forcibly assigned to him.
What, exactly? Was this place some kind of teenage daycare center?
Yet in the face of Happy's protests, Stark was completely unmoved.
In the end, left with no other choice, Happy had to accept it.
Thus, Richard Rider was enrolled at Midtown High School, becoming classmates with Ned and Betty.
If Peter hadn't already graduated, he would have been Richard's classmate as well.
But in secret, Richard had another identity—
Today, New York City was once again enjoying a "peaceful" day.
On a certain street, a car was barreling wildly down the road, with several police cars in pursuit behind it.
"Vehicle ahead, pull over immediately, or we will open fire!"
Up ahead, two police cars had already been positioned in advance, forming a temporary roadblock.
Several officers took cover on either side of the police cars, pistols raised and aimed at the oncoming vehicle.
Ignoring the officers' warnings, the robbers' car—which had just hit a jewelry store—did not slow down. Instead, it floored the accelerator, roaring straight toward the gap between the police cars.
The officers fired several shots and then dove to either side of the street.
Bang!
The space between the two police cars was smashed open.
Though the front of the robbers' car was badly deformed, it was still drivable. The driver burst into laughter as he continued charging forward recklessly.
At that moment—
Boom!
A figure dropped from the sky.
He was small in stature, looking like a minor.
He wore a dark green bodysuit, over which was a yellow, metal-like armored exterior. On his head was a metal helmet inlaid with a red four-pointed star.
Facing the oncoming vehicle, the boy didn't dodge at all.
He extended both hands—actually intending to stop a car going a hundred miles per hour with his bare hands!
"Kid, are you looking to die?!" the robber driving the car shouted.
"Heh heh!" The boy only chuckled, still making no move to dodge.
Just as the robbers' car was about to hit him, the boy suddenly grabbed forward, firmly seizing the car's front bumper, his feet planted against the ground.
Screeeee—
Driven backward by the immense force, his body slid steadily back, yet he wasn't sent flying. He maintained his stance, arms locked forward.
A deep groove was carved into the concrete road.
After sliding back five or six meters, the car was forcibly brought to a stop!
"Hah!"
With a shout, the boy grabbed the front bumper and lifted the entire car up!
The two robbers inside stared wide-eyed in terror.
"Damn it, put it down!"
The robber in the passenger seat stuck a handgun out the window, preparing to shoot the boy.
But the boy merely shook the car left and right, completely throwing off the robber's aim.
"Off you go!"
The boy flipped the robbers' car over and hurled it onto the ground.
Boom!
With a thunderous crash, the car slammed down upside down.
After such a heavy impact, the two robbers were instantly left dizzy and disoriented, unable to get back up.
The boy gestured toward the nearby officers. "Hey, officers, I'll leave the rest to you!"
With that, he kicked off the ground and leapt high into the air, leaving the scene.
"Could that be Superman?" one officer murmured as he watched the boy disappear.
