It wasn't long before the two met up again at the door.
The haul was even bigger than they'd imagined.
Kingpin had ruled New York's underworld for over fifteen years. Relying solely on his shady dealings wasn't enough. Often, he acted as a "money launderer" for the big shots, cleaning up their dirty money and handling things they couldn't be seen doing themselves, even manipulating elections.
And Kingpin, cunning as a fox, had secretly kept evidence while doing these things for them, just in case they ever tried to ditch him or stab him in the back.
This evidence was all hidden in a safe within his heavily fortified office.
Theoretically, if Kingpin were still here, besides the office's defenses, there would also be countless armed goons.
Even if some force he couldn't resist showed up, he could use the private elevator in his office to go straight down to the basement or up to the roof.
There's an armored vehicle with a direct subway line access underground.
There's a helicopter on the roof.
Kingpin had every escape route meticulously planned.
But he overlooked one thing.
Himself!
All of this was predicated on his own presence.
Now, he'd been captured by Peter and the others without warning.
This rendered all his preparations and backup plans completely useless.
In these secret documents, Peter and Spider-Gwen also discovered something chilling.
Over the years, Kingpin had become the criminal overlord of New York, his influence extending throughout the East Coast of the United States and even into other countries.
Even though the police and the media knew about many of his activities, he still managed to evade justice. He even used various schemes to convince the public that he was a wealthy and generous philanthropist who supported various charitable causes.
Recently, he was plotting something: he wanted to become the next mayor of New York City! All those charitable donations were just a way to gather votes for the future.
If he actually succeeded, it was hard to imagine what the city would become.
"Damn it, the McDonald's in Times Square is also owned by Kingpin! I really love their burgers because they always cook the beef perfectly!" Peter exclaimed, looking at an asset list.
"What!" Spider-Gwen took the list and looked at the address. "Oh my god, there's one like that in my world too, even the address is the same! I wonder if Kingpin owns it too!"
"Your world has a Kingpin?" Peter asked.
"Right? Doctor Octopus exists, but he's a guy, middle-aged, bald, and with a big belly," Spider-Gwen made a playful face. "Doesn't he exist in your world?"
"He does, but he was defeated by another superhero," Peter shrugged. "A superhero called Daredevil. Let me tell you, he's amazing. He can hear if people are lying by their voice, and even estimate their age!"
"Giggle, giggle… Looks like you've been figured out? Why are you afraid of being found out? Too old, or… too young?" Spider-Gwen sat beside Peter and asked.
Although they were talking, they were actually multitasking.
Their hands were quickly flipping through the information they had, filtering out the useful information, information that could threaten Kingpin. And the ones Spider-Gwen found would be handed to Peter, who would scan them using the camera function on his suit's glasses and upload them to the database.
Finally, they would be packaged together and sent to the people who needed to receive them, so that Kingpin's past "close partners" could see him off.
Peter scratched his head, feeling a bit awkward, unsure how to answer this question.
——
: Saying I'm old? I'm a 15-year-old pretty boy, how can I say I'm old? And, do you want them to think you're a middle-aged Peter with a big belly? Like Amazing Spider-Man B, who can't see his feet and always wears long underwear?
Amazing Spider-Man B: Are you being polite?
: Saying I'm young, only 15 years old? Oh! Then my glorious image would be completely ruined? They all think I'm a mature, responsible Spider-Man!
Peter's mind flashed an image of himself with a beard like Tony Stark's, and he started to chuckle.
"He's gotta be cool!"
"Super cool!"
"What are you doing, Peter?" Spider-Gwen asked, bewildered, as Peter suddenly turned to her and started laughing. Her butt instinctively scooted away from Peter a half-cheek's distance.
"N-nothing," Peter wiped away the nonexistent drool from the corner of his mouth, returning to his focused perusal of the files.
And so, another hour passed.
Peter and Spider-Gwen went from being full of energy to being full of… dry energy.
Damn it, Kingpin has so much data!
"Why aren't you guys done yet? Just watching is tiring," a voice sounded from above them.
Peter and Spider-Gwen exchanged glances, both seeing bewilderment in the other's eyes.
Then, they looked up sharply to see Spider-Ham stuck to the office ceiling, one little pig hoof raised, looking very relaxed.
"When did you get here?" Spider-Gwen asked.
Spider-Ham thought for a moment. "About ten minutes ago, I guess? Not sure. You know, I'm a 'pig' brain, so it's normal."
Peter was covered in black lines. "So you just watched us struggle for a whole ten minutes?!"
"Well, yeah?" Spider-Ham blinked innocently.
"You, get down here!" Peter and Spider-Gwen moved at the same time, each shooting a web, one on each of Spider-Ham's hands, and pulled him down from the ceiling.
And so, another poor guy joined the ranks of those forced to sort through the data.
"Where are Peni and Mister Shadow?" Peter asked, since the three of them were usually together. How come they only saw Spider-Ham?
Oh, Peter definitely wasn't asking so that there would be another person to share the burden of organizing the data.
He was just asking, that's all.
"Really," replied Spider-Ham. "We came together, and even stopped by to see Miles and say goodbye. But when we got here, Peni's partner detected some strange fluctuations underground, so Mister Shadow went with her to check it out. Oh yeah, here, take these."
Spider-Ham produced two small earplugs from somewhere.
"Communicators. The frequency's already set. Everyone gets one. Peni made them. Consider it a souvenir."
Spider-Gwen took hers, which had "GS" written on it, the initials of her name, Gwen Stacy. She couldn't help but smile.
Peter also took his, and found "PFD" on it.
"What does this mean?" Peter asked, puzzled.
