Chapter 71 - Passion in the Office

The long black Lincoln glided smoothly down the street.

Amazing Spider-Man B had taken over as Peter's temporary driver.

Every time he thought back to the earlier scene, he couldn't help but chuckle.

Spider-Gwen, sitting nearby, pressed her lips together to hold back a laugh, occasionally throwing Peter a teasing glance.

Peter, on the other hand, looked completely unbothered.

Come on—he was only fifteen. How could anyone expect him to know how to drive?

Besides, the fragmented memories he'd inherited from Blonde Spider-Man didn't include anything about driving either.

So, yes—he couldn't drive. And he was proudly justified about it.

Right now, they were heading straight for Fisk Tower.

Originally, there was no need to rush.

But, of course, things never go that smoothly.

Just as Peter was busy subduing Kingpin, Doctor Octavia suddenly made her move.

Turns out, she had left herself a contingency—just waiting for the moment Peter left before slipping free from his webs.

For someone like Doctor Octavia, that wasn't exactly difficult.

After all, she'd been fighting Spider-Men for years. She'd long since prepared countermeasures.

For instance, her mechanical tentacles were designed with internal liquid storage chambers—each filled with a solution capable of dissolving protein structures rapidly.

Once she was free, however, she didn't attack Peter or any of the other Spider-People again. Instead, she quietly slipped away.

By the time Peter and the others realized it, she was already gone.

Given her unstable mental state and her obsession with science, they couldn't help worrying that she might do something reckless with the particle collider.

Fortunately, before Tombstone was taken away, they managed to get a piece of information out of him—

The collider had just been activated.

Normally, it would take ten hours of preheating before the particles could accelerate to near light-speed.

Still, to be safe, they decided to split into two teams.

The first team—Peter, Amazing Spider-Man B, and Spider-Gwen—would take Kingpin to Fisk Tower first.

Their goals were twofold: to gather solid evidence of Kingpin's crimes and completely crush his empire, and to keep an eye out for any trace of Doctor Octavia.

The second team—Shadow Spider-Man, Penny Parker, and Spider-Ham—stayed behind to clean up the aftermath, making sure Tombstone and Scorpion were safely handed over to the police so no one else could pull an "Octavia" and slip away again.

They'd regroup later.

As for Miles…

Miles was still grieving.

By the time Peter and the others thought to look for him, he had already gone off alone.

No one tried to stop him.

They all understood.

The Prowler might've been a villain, but he was still Miles' uncle—his beloved uncle.

Every Spider-Man there knew the pain of losing family all too well.

So they let him be.

Besides, it wasn't a problem for now.

Peter could handle things on this end, then shut down the collider once everyone had safely returned to their own worlds.

Amazing Spider-Man B drove the Lincoln fast, heading straight for Fisk Tower. In no time, they arrived at the base of the massive skyscraper and pulled right into the underground parking lot—swaggering through the gates without a single obstacle.

None of the "security guards" noticed anything amiss. Of course, that was because they weren't real security—they were all gangsters under Kingpin's payroll.

And none of them realized that their boss's car… wasn't being driven by their boss anymore.

Peter and the others had been ready for a fight. They thought Doctor Octavia might have beefed up security after her escape.

But apparently not.

Which, honestly, was fine.

No fight meant less mess.

After all, it wasn't like Spider-Men enjoyed breaking bones for fun.

Once they parked, Amazing Spider-Man B stayed behind to keep an eye on Kingpin, while Peter and Spider-Gwen scaled the outer wall and slipped into the building.

Before long, they found it—Kingpin's office.

They stood before a massive set of double doors, at least four meters tall. Two unconscious men in suits lay sprawled beside it.

Those two had been guarding the door—until Peter and Gwen took them down in a single move.

"This guy… did he rip a chunk of a castle wall off just to make this door?" Gwen muttered in disbelief.

"Who cares?" Peter shrugged. "Kingpin's already in custody. Now it's time to tear down his filthy little empire."

He placed his hand on the solid wood door and gave it a light push. It swung open easily.

The guy hadn't even bothered to lock it. Talk about arrogance.

"Well then," Peter said with a grin, "today we're going to be polite little spiders—entering through the front door."

They stepped into the office.

It was huge—marble pillars, towering floor-to-ceiling windows, display cases holding full samurai armor, and priceless oil paintings hanging on the walls.

It was simple, yet extravagant. Luxurious, but not tasteless.

Peter gave his verdict: "Not bad—"

Buzz!

Before he could finish the sentence, his spider-sense went berserk.

Both he and Gwen dove aside just in time—

Bang!Bang!

Two bullets tore through the floor where they'd just been standing.

Peter snapped his head toward the source.

Across the wall, a row of small holes had silently opened—and from each, a gun barrel extended outward.

The moment Peter caught sight of them—

RATATATATAT!

Bullets poured out like twin metal whips, lashing across the room toward Peter and Gwen.

They split instantly—one to the left, one to the right—running along the walls.

"No wonder the door wasn't locked…" Peter muttered dryly. "Guess sneaking in is the Spider-Man way after all."

The one time he decided to walk in openly—he got greeted with a hailstorm of bullets.

Classic.

Fortunately, the guns were automated—and predictable.

After a few seconds of observation, Peter figured out their pattern.

Each one was clearly hooked up to an infrared motion sensor. Unless you turned it off manually or carried something from the system's whitelist…

It would just keep shooting.

Until it ran out of ammo.

But Peter had already spotted their weakness—

Blind spots.

When Kingpin designed this system, he must've known about people like Spider-Man—attackers who could come from literally any direction: north, south, east, west, up, or down.

So he'd arranged the guns to cover nearly a full 360 degrees.

But that was only true for the system as a whole.

Individually, each gun had small areas it couldn't cover.

Peter quickly identified a few of those positions.

He shot a couple of web pellets, blocking several barrels.

Then he jumped straight into one of the blind zones—hands flying in a blur as a web barrage sealed off every remaining gun muzzle.

The room went still.

Peter and Gwen both let out a breath of relief and dropped down from the walls.

They exchanged a glance.

Peter pointed to one side of the room. "You take that side. I'll check over here. Let's split up."

"Got it."

"Be careful—Kingpin might've left more traps."

Gwen flashed him an OK sign.

Then the two of them got to work.
