Chapter 55 - Spider-Man in Action

While Peter was running around, on the other side, Spider-Man B and Miles also began their great adventure.

They successfully arrived at their destination, Ockmax Lab.

Outside the lab, the two discussed their infiltration plan.

Spider-Man B's plan was quite detailed:

First, infiltrate the lab.

Second, find the chief scientist's computer.

Third, put aside the sexism – the chief scientist is a woman.

Fourth step, hack into her computer.

Fifth step, download important information.

Sixth step, grab a bagel from the restaurant, then run like hell.

Although some strange things were mixed into the plan, the steps were simple, clear, and very practical.

As for Miles... Considering his unreliable track record of breaking the overload key... So, Spider-Man B temporarily added a seventh step: Miles stays outside to keep watch.

However, this little rascal saw Kingpin get out of the car and enter the lab.

So he changed his mind and went in too, finding Spider-Man B in the pipes.

After he stated his concerns – because he had witnessed the death of the blonde Spider-Man of this world, and now didn't want to see a second Spider-Man die – Spider-Man B reluctantly accepted his plan-wrecking behavior.

Together, the two of them quickly found the chief scientist's office and, through observation, memorized her computer password.

At the same time, they learned something important: if the Particle Collider was restarted this week, the energy released when it opened a quantum channel to a parallel universe could cause multiple realities to overlap, even compress each other, leading to rifts in continuous spacetime. In that case, Brooklyn, the epicenter, would be the first to be crushed by the pressure of multiple realities! But Kingpin didn't care about any of that. He gave the chief scientist only 24 hours to restart the Particle Collider.

The chief scientist was clearly not that crazy; she only studied spacetime and quantum physics, not that she wanted to die.

So, she followed Kingpin, who had issued the ultimatum, out of the office to try and persuade her boss.

While she and Kingpin were outside the office, talking, Spider-Man B quietly dropped from the ventilation shaft and began his login operation.

However, Miles also wanted to try that, but because his abilities weren't under control, he didn't do as well as Spider-Man B. Instead, he stuck himself to a fluorescent light tube.

After a struggle with the light tube, he crashed down with it.

Boom!

The commotion in the office caught the attention of the lead scientist.

Spider-Man B must be really bummed out right now.

If he'd come alone, he could have snuck in, grabbed a bagel, and left without a trace.

Now, he'd snuck in, but made such a racket that his bagel heist was probably ruined.

What a terrible situation.

Meanwhile, in the panic, Miles realized he could turn invisible.

So, the two quickly divided their tasks.

Spider-Man B would use his charm to distract the returning lead scientist, while Miles would go invisible and secretly enter the password to download the data.

However, something even more awkward happened.

Miles wasn't like Spider-Man B, who had a photographic memory.

Even though he'd looked at it just now, and even with Spider-Man B's reminders, he still couldn't remember the incredibly long password, which involved over a dozen characters, including English letters, numbers, and symbols.

With no other choice, Spider-Man B could only handle the chief scientist's interrogation while also giving Miles hints.

Then, the chief scientist suddenly revealed her identity.

Her name was Olivia Octavius, her friends called her Liv, and her enemies called her Doctor Octopus!

And she was also the designer of the Particle Collider!

Evidently, the Doctor Octopus of this world, though female, was even more accomplished in the field of quantum mechanics than the male version that Spider-Man B knew!

Encountering Doctor Octopus wasn't a good sign for a Spider-Man.

After all, Doctor Octopus was a classic Spider-Man villain.

Naturally, the two sides weren't on good terms.

At this moment, Miles pulled another stunt – he hoisted the computer tower and monitor onto his shoulders, preparing to escape.

Wait, why is he taking the monitor? Doesn't he know the data's in the tower? Spider-Man B also couldn't help but complain, and then tossed the monitor aside.

Their presence was completely exposed, triggering a chase by Doctor Octopus and the many armed goons Kingpin had stationed in the lab.

Before leaving, Spider-Man B didn't forget his donuts. After exiting the lab, he gave Miles a Web-Shooter, but Miles's constant blunders almost got them caught by Doctor Octopus.

They almost failed!

Fortunately, at the critical moment, a female Spider-Man in a black and white spider suit appeared.

Her name was Gwen Stacy.

Spider-Gwen!

Like Spider-Man B, she came from another parallel universe!

But not the same universe as Spider-Man B.

Furthermore, she hadn't just arrived in this world. She'd been here for a week.

Guided by her spider-sense, she went to Vision School and met Miles, only to have a chunk of her hair ripped off by Miles, who had just gained his spider abilities.

Later, through her own investigation, she found that the reason for her arrival was likely related to the Particle Collider.

So, she disguised herself and infiltrated Ockmax Lab, where she happened to run into the two of them, who were openly stealing data.

"With all due respect, are you two really here to 'steal' data, or… you know?" Spider-Gwen raised an eyebrow.

Spider-Man B shrugged: "As the old saying goes: life is full of surprises."

Miles lowered his head. The series of events that had just occurred made him realize his shortcomings. He felt very guilty and didn't dare say anything.

Spider-Gwen clutched the computer chassis in one arm and gestured towards the forest. "Let's go, yeah? The pursuers will be here soon."

"How many Spider-Men are there, anyway?" Miles couldn't help but grumble. It seemed like complaining was a Spider-Man thing, not just Peter Parker's.

Spider-Man B pulled him along, saying casually, "Just go to a comic convention. You'll see."

"What's a comic convention?" Miles asked, confused.

"You don't even know what a comic convention is? Is Spider-Man not popular in your world?"

"Are you popular?"

"Of course! Boys and girls all like me, so they cosplay as Spider-Man at comic conventions. Get it?"

"Oh."

The three of them gradually disappeared into the forest.
