Before, I didn't pay attention to anything involving the Vastano family, even when I knew I was going to be married into their family, be it temporary. Thus, I didn't know that Vega's family had such a tragic event at its core.
Amelia continues, her fingers twisting the fabric of her dress. "Vega was there when it happened," she says.
My surprise is a cold, tight fist in my stomach. The stoic, untouchable Vega I know, the one who is cold and seems to have everything in order, was a witness to a murder-suicide.
"He was so small," Amelia whispers, her eyes moistening. "Five years old. Just five. And ever since that day, the smiling and happy child was gone. Just… gone."
Amelia leans in slightly, her voice dropping again, becoming conspiratorial. "He developed a psychological problem since then. A deep-seated trauma. He couldn't touch anyone or let them touch him."
