Chapter 4 - The Da Fei Band, and No Da Fei

Wang Zhi quickly ordered several dishes. The two of them arranged a small table. Although it was a simple setup for entertaining a big shot, the food was quite plentiful.

Liang Yin was a little excited, saying, "Will Shen Jianbin come? Will Su Yulin come? Have you ever watched Su Yulin play the Drums? She's absolutely stunning!"

Wang Zhi frowned and handed over his phone.

"Boss, you should take a look at this first."

The Da Fei Band's official account announced today that, due to Da Fei (formerly known as Lin Chudong) not following the company's arrangements, his employment contract had been terminated. The new lead singer, Wu Bo, would be taking Da Fei's place as the band's lead vocalist, and a nationwide tour would begin next month. Please show your support.

The Weibo post immediately caused an uproar.

"Da Fei got fired? What's going on?"

"Damn, Da Fei's gone, my youth is over! Can anyone even listen to the band without Da Fei?"

"Here's a joke: Da Fei Band, without Da Fei."

"Who gave you the balls to kick out Da Fei? Did you ask the fans? Even if he wasn't following the company's arrangements, it doesn't warrant getting fired, right?"

"I'm in the industry, and I'll say this: Shen Jianbin, I C$%&N$%^&M…"

"I heard before that Da Fei's refusal to participate in variety shows made the company unhappy. Now I see it's true."

"But isn't Da Fei the boss of Da Fei Studio? Who could fire him?"

"He's not. Shen Jianbin is."

"You mean, the keyboardist who always wears sunglasses?"

"..."

Da Fei Band's fans are essentially Da Fei's fans, so they were extremely unhappy when they heard the lead singer had been replaced.

This news immediately went to the top of the trending topics, and the reposts quickly exceeded one hundred thousand.

At the same time, the public relations company also took action.

In less than half an hour, the entertainment industry's focus had shifted.

"I heard Da Fei is arrogant and difficult to work with. He calls the shots in the band, and all the musicians have been yelled at by him."

"I heard that too. Once, during a live broadcast of a gala, Da Fei left early, leaving a twenty-minute gap. The host had to awkwardly sing several songs to avoid a broadcast accident."

"Talent is one thing, but you also have to follow the rules and respect the staff."

"You're all just scratching the surface. The real reason is the love triangle between Da Fei, Su Yulin, and Shen Jianbin. That's why their relationship imploded."

"Whoa, are you serious, upstairs?"

"Stuff in the entertainment industry isn't just made up. Most of it is true."

Watching the comments from netizens, Liang Yin and Wang Zhi fell silent.

Da Fei got fired?

So that's why he came to the Music Store to apply as a Guitar teacher?

This is ridiculous, right? He's a professional singer, was once incredibly popular. Even if he got fired, it shouldn't be this bad, right?

Wang Zhi said, "I think what's online might not all be false. The love triangle between Da Fei, Su Yulin, and Shen Jianbin, that news seems the most reliable. He came to our Music Store to escape, he doesn't want Su Yulin to find him…"

Just as Wang Zhi was rambling on, the lesson on the other side finished.

Ms. Zhang walked over, a look of satisfaction on her face.

"I'm renewing my lessons, buying another twenty classes. But I have a condition: they must be taught by Teacher Lin, otherwise I'll have to withdraw!"

As she spoke, she gave Wang Zhi a sidelong glance.

Wang Zhi felt a surge of frustration, but he had to swallow his pride and apologize profusely.

After seeing Ms. Zhang off, Liang Yin immediately closed the shutter door.

"Closed for business today."

"Welcome Da Fei!"

Lin Chudong was taken aback, then smiled. "Thanks, Ms. Liang."

Liang Yin seemed a little flustered. "Are you really going to teach here? You're a first-tier singer!"

Lin Chudong shook his head. "First-tier? Look at my Weibo, I only have a few tens of thousands of followers. The songs are popular, but I'm not."

Liang Yin was slightly stunned; it was true. Otherwise, she wouldn't have recognized him as Da Fei after so long.

"But... you're not exactly strapped for cash, are you?"

A singer of Da Fei's caliber, why would he bother with a monthly salary of six thousand?

Lin Chudong gave a wry smile. "How about we eat first?"

Unbeknownst to her, he had been staring at the food in front of him for quite some time.

Liang Yin said, "Oh right, right, right, eat up quickly. Thanks for teaching the kids just now!"

Lin Chudong ate a few mouthfuls. Wang Zhi said, "Brother Fei, did you see what's on Weibo?"

Liang Yin frowned and stomped on his foot.

Why bring that up!

Lin Chudong smiled faintly. "Da Fei Band made an announcement, right? What did they say?"

Wang Zhi said, "They said you didn't comply with the company's arrangements, so you were terminated."

The atmosphere suddenly became a little strange. Liang Yin and Wang Zhi looked at each other, both becoming cautious.

Lin Chudong, however, didn't care. "It's alright, they didn't sling any mud at me."

Wang Zhi frowned. "You're too calm. Are you really okay with leaving the band like this? Is it your relationship with Su Yulin that caused this?"

Liang Yin's chest visibly heaved with anger, and she stomped on his foot again under the table.

At least he was half a musician, not like those brain-dead reporters asking all sorts of questions!

Lin Chudong said helplessly, "How about we finish eating first? Ms. Zhang, you've stepped on me twice now."

"Ah, sorry, sorry!" Liang Yin's face flushed bright red.

To be fair, this shop owner was quite pretty. It was just that her figure was so… prominent, it made one overlook her face.

The three ate a few bites in silence. They realized Da Fei was no different from ordinary people; he ate meat, he ate vegetables, he ate rice…

Liang Yin couldn't help but ask, "Are you going to make a comeback?"

Lin Chudong shrugged. "I never quit. I just don't have a company anymore. I won't be performing for the time being."

"So, what are you planning to do next?"

Lin Chudong said, "I plan to be a music store teacher to make a living, then find an investor with big ambitions, re-form a band, and be the boss myself."

Liang Yin's eyes immediately lit up. She patted her chest and said…

"Me! My music store has tons of instruments, I fully support you forming a band!"

"See how ambitious I am?"

Lin Chudong glanced at him while eating, "Big."

Wang Zhi said, "Definitely big."

Liang Yin: …

After eating about eighty percent full, Lin Chudong wandered around the music store.

There were two floors, the lower floor mainly had guitars: acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and bass guitars.

The upper floor was half pianos and violins, and the other half was drums. It had basically all the mainstream instruments, which could be considered the standard setup for a music store.

Liang Yin was standing with her hands on her hips, looking smug.

"How about it? Don't look down on my little shop. I've got instruments that are performance-grade. If you want to start a new band, I'm here to support you!"

Wang Zhi immediately picked up a Guitar and his hands flew over the strings, playing a very flashy solo. He used all sorts of techniques, like tapping, string pulling, and hammer-ons.

"Da Fei, what do you think of my skill? Can I be your band's guitarist?"

Lin Chudong glanced at him but didn't answer and after a few seconds, he turned back to look at the instruments.

The silence at that moment was deafening.
