We descended into the tunnel, weapons raised, our steps echoing softly against the concrete floor. The deeper we went, the thicker the air became, heavy with rust, decay, and something else… something sharp and metallic that clung to the back of my throat.
It wasn't long before the tunnel opened into a vast underground structure. Rows of broken glass chambers lined the walls. Some were shattered, their contents gone, others still hummed faintly with energy, filled with murky liquid that glowed in faint shades of blue and green.
The markings on the walls were strange, symbols etched into the concrete, shifting faintly when the light passed over them, as if alive.
"Captain…" Rhea whispered, shining her flashlight on one of the chambers.
Inside was a figure, human in shape, but only barely. Its skin was pale, translucent, veins blackened like ink spreading beneath glass. Tubes were still connected to its arms and spine. Its eyes… were open. And they followed us.
