"Yichen!"
I jolted away, my hand grasping at empty air. It was a dream. My heart hammered against my ribs, and I looked to my side expecting to see him there, but there was no one—only the bare sheets staring back at me.
There was no one by my side.
The room was silent, save for the soft morning light filtering through the curtains. My cheek felt warm, almost tingly, as if his touch had lingered there, but I dismissed the thought.
It must have been a dream. These days, I always dream of Yichen appearing, scooping me into his arms, only for him to disappear the next second.
I scoffed, pushing myself up. Stop thinking about him, Mo Yi.
My eyes scanned the large room. My nightmares had shifted. It wasn't my mother's disappointed face or Zhen Rui's victorious sneer that haunted my sleep anymore.
Now, it was the image of Mo Yichen walking away, leaving me in the cold, oppressive silence of this massive manor.
