She didn't know that the Su family had severed ties with Su Miao Miao. Unlike in her past life, in this life, the rumors hadn't spread yet.
Su Miao Miao smiled and said, "Well, I am going to the countryside. They won't say anything."
Mo Ming was surprised. "Why are you going to the countryside? Didn't you get the job placement already? Why do you have to go?"
Seeing Mo Ming genuinely unaware of the Su family's situation, Su Miao Miao cursorily told her a few things.
Mo Ming was fuming. "How could they just sever ties and force you to go to the countryside?"
"Well, they raised me, and I don't really have a place here. I don't want to be a hassle," replied Su Miao Miao nonchalantly. She really didn't care.
She added, "My job placement—I wanted to find you about it. I heard that your brother was searching for a job."
Mo Ming paused, pleasently suprised. "About my brother, my mother gave her job to my brother. I don't have good grades, and she was keeping the job for me since I wouldn't be assigned one for sure. But if he hadn't urgently gotten the job, he would have been sent to the countryside as an educated youth. So, it had to be done."
She hooked her hand with Su Miao Miao's arm and continued, "I was really worried about where I would find a job, and here you are offering! Let's go to my home."
Su Miao Miao apologized, "Sorry. I have a few things I need to buy, and your parents might not be at home right now. How about this—I'll come in the evening. Discuss with your parents. I just want the market price. This is the job for the fabric factory, easiest job you know."
Mo Ming agreed and hurried home to talk to her parents.
Su Miao Miao continued buying things. She needed to buy cotton, more fabric to make quilts, and cotton-padded clothes for the countryside.
She found ready-made quilts and bedsheets. Though they were more expensive, she bought them anyway. She didn't have lots of time to make them.
She also bought a few sets of cotton-padded clothes. She had to mail them today so that they would arrive by the time she reached the place.
She went to the post office and mailed the huge package.
Then she took out some pastries and canned food from her space and went to Mo Ming's home.
She had been quite close to Mo Ming in high school. In her past life, Mo Ming hadn't gotten a job recommendation and was sent to the countryside because they couldn't manage it in time.
She had been sent to the same place as Su Miao Miao but in another batch of educated youths.
The Mo family really loved their youngest daughter. They would send her lots of things, even including some shares for her friends.
Mo Ming was kind and had given her quite a bit of food when she was still in the educated youth house.
Later, after Su Miao Miao married into the Jiang family, she didn't hear much from Mo Ming but heard that she often got sick and was criticized by the leader. When her illness worsened, she was sent back home, and gossip said she had died.
She didn't know if Mo Ming truly died in her previous life, but she didn't want her to die in this one. She wanted to repay the kindness Mo Ming had shown her. The countryside was truly harsh, and Mo Ming had gotten sick a lot.
Thinking of these things, she reached the Mo family house. It was much like the Su family house—two-storied, newly assigned by the workplace.
She entered and handed gifts to Mo Mother along with greetings.
Mo Mother pretended to get angry. "Oh, why did you bother? You're coming to your friend's house. Don't be so polite."
She didn't want to take the gifts, but Su Miao Miao insisted, and seeing that it wouldn't be wise to keep declining, Mo Mother finally took the gifts to the kitchen.
Mo Father and brother were at home. She greeted both of them.
Mo Father talked about business. "Sit down, Su Miao Miao. Xiao Ming said you were planning to sell the job."
Mo Mother came with brown sugar water. "She hasn't even sat down, and you're already talking business. Let her rest first."
She turned to Su Miao Miao and said, "Take this and drink. It's a little warm but sweet. I heard about what happened. Poor girl. The Su family is truly cruel to you—forcing you to go to the countryside to slave away."
Mo Father just coughed. He wanted to make sure his daughter had a job too and was a little excited.
Su Miao Miao thanked Mo Mother and continued the conversation that had been cut in half. "Indeed, it's the job placement for the fabric factory. Mo Ming must have already told you that I just want a market price of 800 yuan."
Mo Father deferred. "No, no. 800 yuan is too little. The average market price for this kind of good job is almost 1,000–1,200 yuan."
Mo Mother nodded. Su Miao Miao saw that Mo siblings also agreed. This family was truly honest.
She said, "You guys are too honest. I just want 800 yuan and no more. It's just—I had a small request."
"Tell uncle. If it's within my capability, I'll help for sure." Mo Ming had already told them about Su Miao Miao's situation, and Mo Father also pitied her. Plus, she was his daughter's close friend—it wouldn't be a big deal to help.
"Uncle, I was wondering if you could send a few things in the mail each month. I'll send you the money and list of what I want," Su Miao Miao said.
Mo Father worked in the post office, so it wouldn't be a big deal for him. He readily agreed.
