Location: The Vincent Mansion, High Valley
At the top most point of High Valley, where the richest of the richest lived, there stood a manor much larger than the others. In a way, because of its medieval layout from the period it was built, you can even think of it as a small castle.
Living in the biggest room on the first floor of that castle was Trisha Vincent, the third child, and the youngest girl of Revas Vincent.
Trisha was a high achiever in her middle school, excelling in both sports and academics. And currently, she was a scholar in her first high school year at Regalia High School, and worked as the Student Council Accountant.
Another hobby of Trisha, different from her sports and academics, was playing video games. It was her favourite past-time activity whenever she wanted to take a break from her busy life. Games that challenged her were her favourite.
Much as obvious, hearing about this game of the century, Arcadia Online, she also joined the game under the name of [Tristan Bear]. Her primary goal was to enjoy the game's breathtaking world, Arcadia.
Playing was one thing, but Trisha did more than that. She researched the games, analyzing them and understanding the logic behind them. She loved the myth and theories behind the characters, the NPCs and even items if the game had a proper description of them.
Her favourite streamer [Blaze], though not a top player, was a curious guy who looked at every aspect of the game. He would spend a stupid amount of time studying mundane things and somehow even make them interesting. Trisha loved watching his antiques as he went deeper into the lore of the games, giving his own point of view, and understanding everything one step ahead of anyone else.
Though this time it was different…
Raven.
This time, Trisha was mesmerized by a quiet player, Raven, who seemed like a klutz at first, then turned out to be a monster of a player in combat. She was the definition of 'don't judge a book by its cover.'
It wasn't love, though.
Trisha was already engaged to her father's friend's kid, a boy of matching age to hers, and she already had a liking towards him. What she felt towards Raven was akin to admiration.
Raven was the ideal that Trisha always wanted to be. A mysterious simple girl who seemed to be hiding a huge secret.
I want to be friends with her. She felt as she saw how she was faring against the devilkin.
And then…
"SCYTHE!!!"
Within the stream, another impossible guy, though less interesting than Raven for her, finally made his appearance once again.
Ezekiel.
He was a capable player and certainly held quite a bit of wisdom about this game. One can even find him enjoyable, respect his battle sense and admire his skills. But that wasn't enough for Trisha to make her focus on him…
Until…
I underestimated him.
He showed his real skills.
I fucking seriously underestimated him!!!
-Whoosh!
Catching the Scythe, he took a step and then vanished from everyone's vision. And then, appearing right behind the boss in an instant, he did more than a dozen slashes in quick succession.
Before the devil could even turn around, he vanished again. Only to reappear for a brief moment, once again behind him, slashing a few more than last time, and then vanishing again.
In the beginning, he was somehow visible, but a few seconds later, all that Blaze, Raven, Link and those who watched the stream could see was gusts of wind flying around the boss.
The devilkin looked around, searching for Ezekiel, but his traces were becoming more and more faint. The only thing that made sure of his existence was the cuts that he was making on the devil's body.
In the beginning there were 3, then 7, then 12, and then it increased irregularly. Even the healing speed of the devil failed to hide the number of cuts he was getting each passing moment.
But even then… the HP of the boss still remained full.
-Whoosh!
Ezekiel appeared, sliding backwards, as he reached beside Raven.
"How many transformations did he go through?" He asked.
"One," Raven answered subconsciously without turning.
"Son of a-"and then he cursed, vanishing again before Raven could even turn around.
Is it a skill? Can skill be this powerful?! Trisha guessed as she forgot to breathe for a moment. She saw the boss covered in cuts all over his body, her eyes narrowed at the HP bar that wasn't reducing even one bit…
It's still not enough? She questioned as she looked at the devil, wondering if he was an unkillable boss.
But then…
-1 HP
There was an impact.
The boss, enraged, moved a step forward, this time to the next closest player, towards Raven.
-1HP -1HP
The gusts of wind began turning into a small storm as the Health Points finally started showing signs of reducing.
-1HP -1HP -1HP…
-1HP -1HP -1HP -1HP -1HP -1HP…
Gulp. Trisha looked at the reducing HP, and how the messages were getting more rapid than before. As for the devil, he wasn't just having minor cuts like before. He was now getting chopped up into pieces here and there with the seemingly infinite attack barrage.
"Yo… u… bas… tar…d…" the devil tried speaking, but with the decreasing HP, and his partially distorted face, he could barely make a proper sentence.
It seems possible now… they might really do it. Trisha thought, looking at the decreasing HP.
At first, the HP reduced at 10 per second, then 20, then it reached 100 per second, finally capping at 400 to 500 HP. It also meant that Ezekiel was making at least 500 cuts each passing second.
In the middle of the HP being chipped away, a few +1000 and +2500 messages also appeared as the boss used his healing skill, but it seemed useless as the HP simply kept moving down without showing any signs of stopping.
"You… No… No… NOOOO!!!!!!!"
The boss shouted as his entire body was now both healing and then getting chopped into pieces. Pieces of his body were falling onto the ground, while his HP reduced to 5000… then 2000… then increased to 3500 before falling back to 1500… and then lastly as it reached 500… 200… and 100… the Boss started getting enraged.
The decreasing HP paused at 100 before rapidly increasing once again.
Tremendous energy started coming out of the Boss's body while a red hue surrounded him, covering him from all sides. He seemed to be getting to another phase…
And then Ezekiel once again reappeared, this time behind the healing body of the previously chopped-up demon.
"This damned transformation phase," he sighed with a really irritated look on his face before he vanished once again, this time without causing any cuts or any fall in HP of the boss.
This resulted in the Boss's HP rapidly rising slowly over time, filling more than half of it in a few seconds, once again making everyone wonder if it was really impossible to kill him.
However,
Even without the attacks, the storm was still growing bigger.
This time, far more rapidly than before.
