Chapter 136 - Chapter 136: Ambitious Villain

At this moment, Clark, standing behind Eric, watched his brother's violent methods with a complex feeling.

Feeling the spatial vibrations and the impact of the air, he shook his head.

Meanwhile, Solomon Grundy, who was being brutally beaten by Eric, also experienced a change in his mindset.

He no longer had his previous ferocious expression, but instead looked at Eric with a pitiful face.

He stopped struggling and roaring, adopting a 'lying flat' posture.

He covered his forehead with his arm, letting out 'woo woo' sounds, seemingly crying.

It was as if the ferocious, destructive, and rampaging zombie image from before was a completely different person from him.

Eric raised his fist, looking at the pleading expression on the opponent's face, and the pitiful, intentionally feigned look, feeling a little surprised.

Isn't this guy a simpleton?

He actually knows how to beg for mercy?!

However,

Begging for mercy?

Too late!

Another punch was thrown, completely destroying the opponent's arm muscles, with bones almost exposed!

Even the most powerful self-healing ability couldn't keep up with his destructive force.

Thud!

The air once again surged outwards, and an earthquake-like tremor spread in all directions.

Midnight Doctor swallowed, and asked Courtney, who was next to him, in confusion, "I just heard Grandy crying, didn't I?"

"Yes, I think I heard it too!"

Wildcat turned his head, and their gazes met in the air, seeing the incredulity and shock in each other's eyes.

At this time, the few onlookers were all captivated by the violent and shocking scene before them; no one mentioned leaving anymore.

"I can't quite believe it. That big guy killed Hourman's parents. Can he really feel fear and dread?"

Courtney had personally witnessed that big guy's brutalization of Hourman, and she hadn't expected the opponent to be so vulnerable in front of Eric, the guy who stole her Star Scepter?

She suddenly felt a sense of despair, fearing that she wouldn't be able to get her Star Scepter back anytime soon.

Mike, held by Barbara, had a simpler mind. He watched Eric, who was 'straddling' the giant, bombarding him with both punches and laser beams, his eyes shining brightly.

Thud!

After the last punch, Grandy just lay on the ground gasping for breath, curled up in a ball with his head covered, clearly breathing out more than he was breathing in.

The sound of police sirens came from afar, and more and more people began to gather on the street.

Eric did not continue his attack. This guy possessed an immortal body; even if he were completely killed, he would likely revive very quickly.

The opponent had now completely lost the courage to face him; even if he was immortal, he posed no threat to him.

With a cold gaze, he looked at Grandy, who hadn't quite died yet, "It seems you're not entirely without emotion. Now—do you understand your weakness?"

Releasing his hands from his head, Grandy's eyes showed a look of terror, and he nodded repeatedly, trying hard to appear fawning and ingratiating.

After glancing left and right and seeing the crowd gradually increasing, with everyone staring at him with a strange expression, Eric frowned.

"Eric."

Clark walked over, shaking his head with a solemn expression, "Things have become a bit troublesome."

"What?"

"These people…"

Clark looked at the surrounding crowd, "You… were probably seen by them just now."

Clark's biggest fear was that his and Eric's abilities would be discovered, so he had always hidden his talents.

Even when playing on the football team at school, he tried his best to restrain his desire to use his talents.

On the topic of hiding their talents, he even frequently clashed with his father, Jonathan.

Now, seeing the crowd gathering around, he worried that Eric had been exposed.

"Don't worry, they didn't see anything."

Only a few people next to Stargirl witnessed the entire scene; everyone else appeared only after he had finished pummeling Grandy.

As the two were talking, several police cars drove to the scene.

The police officers of Blue Valley finally arrived late.

After getting out of their police cars, the officers were all stunned by the scene before them.

The entire street looked as if it had been bombed, a complete mess.

The glass of stores like the cafe, bookstore, and convenience store were all shattered, and the walls were pitted and scarred, as if swept by bullets.

Especially the cafe, half of its wall had collapsed, and scattered debris was everywhere. The coffee machine and self-service convenience machine were completely deformed, lying haphazardly on the ground.

The most severely damaged was the road, with potholes and cracks everywhere. Cars parked on it, closer to the cafe, were completely totaled, lying on the road emitting smoke, as if they had just been smashed.

What shocked the police the most was a giant-like being lying on the ground, his body constantly trembling, his bloodied skin and dust-covered body indicating that he had likely endured a brutal battle.

"What—what should we do?"

Mike, held by Barbara, looked at the increasingly large crowd gathering and the approaching police officers, asking his mother nervously.

"Let's go to the hospital first."

At this moment, Barbara realized that her forehead was bleeding, and her son's arm was bruised and bleeding from scratched areas.

"Mike, your arm?"

Barbara looked at Mike's arm, exclaiming in surprise, "Why didn't you say anything just now?"

Picking up Mike, Barbara quickly walked towards the ambulance.

"Maybe I was too engrossed in watching, so I forgot!"

Mike's gaze remained fixed on Eric's back, letting Barbara carry him towards the ambulance.

"Mom, can you put me down?"

"What?"

"I want to ask for an autograph!"

"No!"

Barbara immediately rejected Mike's idea of approaching him.

On the other side, Eric, whom Mike wanted an autograph from, saw the police approaching him, turned and left.

"Clark, let's go."

"Oh."

Clark frowned, looking at the messy scene, feeling a headache about how to distance himself and Eric from it. Upon hearing Eric call him, he immediately followed.

Never mind, with Eric around, he could explain to father. Anyway, whenever he and Eric got into trouble, Eric always handled it.

Since childhood, Clark rarely used his brain whenever he was with his younger brother.

He had already developed this habit.

As the two were walking towards their car, they were called out by a voice.

Eric looked back and saw a young female police officer calling out to him.

"Sir, you cannot leave for now."

The blonde, seemingly not very old, female police officer stopped the two.

"Is something wrong?"

Eric turned his head.

"Witnesses nearby have told us that you were present at the scene. We hope you can come with us to the police station to give a statement. I don't think this will take up much of your time."

The blonde female officer said to Eric with a smile, her tone containing a hint of nervousness.

She could feel the nerve-wracking aura emanating from the person in front of her.

Coupled with the strange situation at the scene, she couldn't help but raise her guard and be cautious.

"We are not locals, just passing through. And we are in a hurry."

Eric calmly refused.

"It won't take long, just a statement. We'll let you go once our investigation is clear. Even if it takes some time, I think it's for your safety."

The female officer's smile faded, and she expressed her opinion to Eric as politely as possible.

Other police officers noticed the situation and walked towards them.

Clark's eyes showed an anxious look. He knew that once he and Eric entered the police station, nothing could be clarified.

Even if they weren't exposed in the end, they certainly wouldn't get away easily.

What to do?!

Should they escape with super speed now?

Or cooperate and go to the police station?

Clark felt a little flustered inside while looking at Eric.

Eric's eyes narrowed, a cold smile on his lips, as he looked at the female police officer.

"I think you should be worried about your own safety."

"What?!"

Buzz!

Suddenly, an invisible wave propagated through the air.

Clark instantly felt the approach of this invisible energy, a form of intangible energy similar to a mental wave causing damage to the human body, which instantly swept away.

The previously noisy environment suddenly became silent.

The space seemed to have been paused.

All the noisy sounds disappeared. The police, doctors, and onlookers all stopped moving, standing still in place.

The female police officer in front of Eric had a surprised expression on her face, her hands on her waist, standing motionless as if she had lost her soul, staring blankly at Eric.

The police officers who wanted to rush over stopped in place, their eyes instantly becoming vacant, and their entire bodies seemed to have turned into immobile puppets.

Barbara, holding Mike, also became a puppet, standing motionless in place, a confused look in her eyes.

Mike, held by her, suddenly fell to the ground, his already injured arm hitting again, making him grimace in pain.

Clark, standing next to Eric, looked in surprise at the entire crowd that had stopped moving.

"Eric, what happened?"

"Obviously, someone used psychic power to control them."

Eric replied casually, walking towards the car, "Using psychic power to control these people's brains, making them act according to their thoughts, becoming like walking dead, or puppets."

"Although I've basically guessed who did it. But is the luck really that good? Even a stroke can be salvaged?"

Eric shook his head and got into the passenger seat.

This familiar energy was almost identical to the energy of Brainwave, who he had caused to have a stroke.

He had thought that the guy who used his brain, after having a stroke and becoming a vegetable, would be a complete Waste, but he hadn't expected him to wake up and cause such 'terrorist activities'.

Should he say that he underestimated the opponent?

"What do we do now? Should we leave?"

Clark frowned, looking at the scene before him, and asked Eric.

"If we don't leave now, when the police wake up, they'll throw you into the interrogation room, asking what you did. Three days without sleep, and the food is inedible garbage. Do you want to experience that kind of life?"

"I—"

Facing Eric's question, Clark shook his head, "I don't want to be treated like that, but I also don't want all these people to become walking dead. Whoever did this, we must stop him!"

"I know who did this!"

Courtney jogged to Eric's car window, "It was Brainwave! He woke up, and after waking up, he continued to participate in the Injustice Society's conspiracy activities."

"What conspiracy activities?"

Clark asked her.

"Icicle wants to build a 'New World'. They built a huge radar diffuser in the Blue Valley underground base that can infinitely amplify Brainwave's abilities. Using Brainwave's mental control, they can control the entire United States—no, it shouldn't be the entire United States, but the six nearby states. It seems Brainwave's ability, combined with the radar diffuser, can only control the people in these six states."

Taking a deep breath, Courtney explained to Eric, "Adult brains will be controlled by them and, after being modified, will completely obey their commands. Minors, because their brains are not fully developed, will not be controlled by them. That's why Yolanda, Mike, and I weren't controlled."

"So—"

Eric looked at Courtney with a strange gaze, "I remember you're almost an adult, aren't you? Is your brain not fully developed yet?"

Courtney: "!"

Although she really wanted to retort and punch him, after seeing Solomon Grundy trembling on the side, she immediately pushed that impulsive thought out of her mind.

"I don't know, but if we don't stop them, this world will suffer irreversible damage."

Courtney said to Eric seriously, "If you're unwilling to help us, can you lend me the Star Scepter? I can use it to stop those people from the Injustice Society. Please, Eric!"

"Building a New World?"

Eric didn't answer, but he was quite impressed by this group of villains from the Injustice Society.

Their abilities weren't outstanding, but they had grand ideals and put them into practice. Although it was very likely a suicidal endeavor, they possessed admirable courage to push forward relentlessly.

Eric took out his phone and called his parents.

After connecting, he chatted for a few moments and then hung up.

"Unfortunately, the Injustice Society's control range didn't extend beyond 100 kilometers away, only affecting nearby towns and Metropolis."

After learning that his parents were unharmed, Eric was no longer in a hurry and asked Courtney, "What kind of New World do they want to build?"

"Combat global warming, forcing people to—"

Courtney paused for a moment and said, "forcing people to use solar and wind energy, eliminating racial discrimination, religious discrimination, and gender discrimination."

Courtney, speaking softer and softer, finally added, "—and universal healthcare."
