That night, Niky returned with a deep frown carved across his face. He knew Yuzu was still afraid to sleep alone. But work had kept him out far later than planned, so late that midnight had already passed. His fingers tapped impatiently throughout the drive, the muscle in his jaw tightening with every second. He could only hope Yuzu wasn't waiting up for him like she always did.
"Boss, we're being followed."
Damien—the man temporarily replacing Aleksei while he was away—spoke up when he noticed several black cars trailing behind them since a moment ago. At first, he had thought nothing of it. But his brows furrowed as those cars kept their pace even when he slowed down the car.
"Keep driving."
Niky checked the rearview mirror. Sure enough, several black-painted vehicles were tailing them. Silently, he reached back for the gun he always kept behind his seat. Being followed was nothing unusual, but it was never something he ignored.
"How long?" he asked calmly.
