Chapter 14 - Post Apoc, Apocs

Fallout, a world I knew well. In my first life cyber warfare was massive, the internet a battlefield of pure destruction. The military had claimed the only two quantum computers in America and kept them out of the fighting. The government and rebellion then started a massive online war against the other in hopes of stopping the other side from making their own quantum computer.

With a machine of such power the other side could lose anything that had a connection to the internet. Destroying a connection would cripple the enemy as our modern world functioned from it. While the government still had a large majority of market control and thus easy access to outside markets we rebels didn't. We scavenged everything that might push us towards completing the computer. Everything was taken except for some scraps, such as some old computers and consoles. The most complete video game collection the rebellion had for its people was the Fallout series.

We had all played every game at least twice, I personally played though all of them at least four times. I knew that if I wanted technology I'd need to go east to West Virginia but it had felt good helping the Star Wars galaxy. Now I didn't feel like just improving, now I felt like helping as well. Plus if anyone could help this world it was me, I had the knowledge and experience to gain the power to do what I wanted. I knew the multiple apocalypse level threats here in the Mojave so I could start here.

I knew the best place to start, Big MT. I knew how to synthesize the advanced materials of Star Wars and could easily set the process up there. I could then build an army and maybe a star fleet as humanity would eventually have to face the Zetans again despite their loses in the east.

I couldn't remember the specifics but with my armors sensors and my knowledge of the crater being west of New Vegas I could probably find the place. I didn't really care what the courier did here as long as it wasn't siding with the legion. It'd be great if the courier did the Yes Man ending as that would make my plans easier. I began my trek in the direction of Big Mt.

It took a few weeks of travel but I eventually found signs of being near the crater. Larger and larger hives and dens of cazadors and nightstalkers, with way less signs of civilization other than ruins. I mostly avoided the bugs and snake dogs but was still forced to massacre the populations in the areas I went through. I had spotted some truly massive hives and what looked like a town taken over by a single hive.

I travelled for another week, not finding much beyond ruins and creature territory. When I finally found the mountain it was by chance as I stumbled upon one of the old underground railroads built to support the place. I followed the tunnels above ground with my sensors as these tunnels had collapsed in many places or were now home to unfriendly life.

My view of the crater from a high edge was amazing. The place was a marvel of Sci-Fi wonders. I started with the X-13 facility, its defenses hard to pass and the ability to produce robots, both valuable for me. Getting to the facility proved easy as most weapons here couldn't harm me unless they were the more powerful energy types. The internals of X-13 had many defenses but all proved ineffective as I simply cut through to the control room sealed off from the rest of the facility.

I diced the wall to pieces with a lightsaber and plugged into what seemed to be the main terminal. I easily activated the hacking stuff and took over the facility. I immediately erased most of the AIs functions and set it to constructing a bot design id made while coming here. The bots were incredibly simple but in turn tougher and stronger. The Ai of the bots was also decently advanced, based on Star Wars droid programming.

The facility had a large production plant hidden in its depths so the first few bots came out within an hour. I set them to clearing out the facility and cleaning it up while waiting for more bots. It took a few more hours for 100 bots to be created then I sent them straight to the securitron

de-construction plant to take over and convert it to make more bots.

With the new construction facility I easily produced enough bots to expand almost to the think tank. They were really annoying, constantly broadcasting threats and shit while cowering in the dome. I barely held back from emptying my railgun into the building. I continued to expand my small empire till I had surrounded the think tank.

I'd need to break in and secure the technology within before I ended their miserable existences. The tech within was revolutionary, even the smallest bit of damage was unacceptable. My bots were constantly removing threats while waging a small war with Mobius's scorpions. I had even had them wipe out the apocalypse plants in the canyon area. 1/3 super plant locations wiped out.

Eventually my bots broke into the dome and deactivated the weird violence prohibition tech. The old brains gave a decent fight with their sonic emitter weapons and especially the larger heavily armored robobrain they deployed. I took them out one by one starting with Klein to stop him from organizing them. They fell apart and the last survivor activated the robobrain. It gave me a good fight but it didn't have sonic weapons so it couldn't get past my armor.

I whittled it down starting with crippling its track. After putting it down I called in bots and cleaned up. I started browsing the data they had stored in this place, but caught movement from a security feed Darla had pulled up across the room. On the screen were people, actual people with normal clothes and mostly functional brains. They were running from a large group of lobotomites on the outskirts not realizing they could escape right through the pillars.

I immediately left after sending bots to the area and flew most of the way there. When I arrived the fight had dissolved into a quick brutal melee. The simple lobotomites were better at brute combat as had killed or wounded most of the people. I pulled two revolvers and unloaded as the last human dropped from a large gash from a proton axe.

After firing my shots I dashed at the brainless people while igniting two lightsabers. I easily caught their attention and dived them up as they charged. As I sliced through the last one mg bots arrived just in time to secure the area. I rushed around looking at the few wounded people I had seen but only one was still alive. I quickly scanned her and found that without a super stimpack I wouldn't be able to help her, as her wound was a proton axe in her collarbone.

The axe had deactivated but she would still die so I did my best to comfort her as she grabbed my hand. I was used to this, I and many others in the rebels had been to a city that had openly rebelled. The entire city had been killed or fatally wounded. Bodies littered the streets and corners. Many of the rebels had taken their own lives after we investigated what happened there.

I had personally found multiple people of all types dying and ended their suffering with my own hands. The tyrants had used a gas bomb, which turned the world against them. We had started winning the war after that for two reasons. The few that had been there no longer held back against the enemy and the entire civilized world supported us. I gave her some med-x and stayed with her till she stopped breathing.

I had my bots burn the bodies and bury the ashes. It wasn't till an hour later a bot reported something about the people's items. One had been carrying a holotape talking about 'recovered lobotomites' in an old off site Big MT facility. I took my boys to the site and discovered the place under attack by cazadors. The turrets outside had been destroyed and bodies lay scattered with massive cuts leaking dark red, curdled blood.

I stormed the building with my bots and entered a nasty melee leaving me covered in bug guts and poison. I found most fatally wounded, poisoned or dead. I searched the entire complex top to bottom with my sensors and found only one survivor. She was a tiny little five year old recovered lobotomite. I found her cowering in a corner by the servers of the computer system here.

She didn't resist or do much at all as I picked her up and took her with me after taking all the data I could. These people had come up with a way to reroute the brains of people to themselves and find them in the crater to put them back together. The only problem was the process wasn't perfect, always ending with some kind of brain damage. They didn't know what damage the little girl had so they had simply been caring for her in hopes of her doing something eventually.

It took some time but I found that she only reacted to food, drink, and her name, Rena.

Over the next few days I studied her, she was the only other person here and was a child. I took care of her and took her everywhere with me while trying to teach her. At night she took hours to fall asleep so I resorted to stories of my travels and if other worlds I knew. The scanners throughout my buildings gave me accurate information on everything that happened, so I wasn't surprised when a camera and sensor feed was given to me by a droid level intelligence bot.

A few observations had been made on her, favorite foods, interests, and stories. I even caught a reaction once as her eyes squinted slightly and her lips twitched a bit when I described the Jedi ganking Palpatine. She was adorable in an odd way but I, like her previous caretakers didn't know what to do with her. I had handled many children in my life but I was clueless on properly raising them.

A few weeks passed before anything significant happened as one night around twelve, Rena practically appeared in my room and climbed in my bed while I watched her from my terminal. She sat and watched me till I sat on the bed. She curled up against my back and passed out.
