Chapter 33 - [DEM] 33: No Need

Morpheus was intensely curious. As someone who had lived through the disaster, did Saeko know who the mastermind behind it was?

A biochemical crisis of this magnitude, one that engulfed all of Japan, surely couldn't have gone uninvestigated.

So, Saeko must know something, at least to some extent.

As expected, upon hearing Morpheus's question, Saeko answered without hesitation, "I'm not certain, but I have suspicions. This incident is likely tied to the Umbrella Corporation."

Morpheus clicked his tongue. He knew it. The Umbrella Corporation was involved.

After all, how could a biochemical crisis happen without Umbrella?

"Why aren't you sure?" Morpheus asked.

Saeko explained, "After the outbreak in Tokonosu City, some pointed fingers at the Umbrella Corporation, and the government launched an investigation immediately."

"But Umbrella's influence is massive—an international conglomerate. They even pressured other nations to lean on Japan."

"So, the investigation into Umbrella never made much progress."

"Soon after, the virus mutated, infecting even supernatural beings. Tokyo fell rapidly."

"As a result, the investigation into Umbrella ground to a complete halt."

"Even before my rebirth, there was no solid evidence linking the incident to Umbrella."

"But shortly after Tokyo's fall, Umbrella's Tokyo branch completely evacuated."

"That led many to suspect Umbrella's involvement."

Morpheus raised an eyebrow at her words.

This Umbrella Corporation was quite something, wasn't it? To pull off something like this.

Interesting.

It seemed he had no choice but to pay a visit to Umbrella.

But before that…

He turned to Saeko, who had now submitted to him, and said with a grin, "Saeko, right? You're impressive. I like decisive, action-oriented women like you."

"How about it? Want to become my follower and serve me?"

"In exchange, I can grant you immense power."

Saeko was taken aback. Despite her earlier doubts about his identity, Morpheus was still willing to accept her as a follower.

This deity was far more magnanimous than she'd imagined.

And she did need great power to face the coming biochemical crisis.

Without hesitation, Saeko knelt before Morpheus.

"Thank you for your recognition, Lord Morpheus."

"If you can overlook my earlier offense, I am willing to dedicate everything to you."

Morpheus laughed heartily. "I love women as decisive as you."

With that, he placed a hand on her shoulder, imparting a portion of his Light Power to her.

As with the others, ten thousand points of Light Power.

Equivalent to one ten-thousandth of his strength.

After receiving Morpheus's gift, Saeko finally understood why the Commander and Hisako revered him so deeply.

He gave so generously.

Before her rebirth, she had fought under Erina, awakening Gourmet Cells and learning various combat techniques, becoming remarkably strong.

But compared to the power she'd just received, her previous strength was insignificant.

To grant such immense power so casually, without batting an eye.

This was the first time she'd encountered such a generous deity.

Who could resist that?

Saeko certainly couldn't. She dropped into a full dogeza, prostrating herself before Morpheus, swearing lifelong loyalty to him alone.

Morpheus smiled and said, "Get up."

Without a word, Saeko rose quickly, obedient as a loyal hound.

Then, Morpheus took her out of the Light Dimension, returning to the entrance of Totsuki Academy.

Hisako was still there, waiting.

Seeing Morpheus and Saeko return, she breathed a sigh of relief. "Lord Morpheus."

Morpheus nodded and pointed to Saeko. "From now on, Saeko is my follower as well. She's one of you."

Hisako was surprised. Despite Saeko's earlier doubts, Morpheus had accepted her without holding a grudge.

Truly, he was even more magnanimous than she'd imagined.

Hisako immediately said, "I'll inform Miss Erina. As for what Saeko said earlier, what do you think, my lord?"

"It's likely true. I have a shrine maiden with top-grade Spirit Sight who saw this grim future through her foresight."

Hisako was shocked.

Saeko, too, had a moment of realization. No wonder Lord Morpheus believed her so readily.

He had already foreseen this disaster.

Foresight that could pierce the future—Lord Morpheus's followers were truly remarkable.

Seeing Hisako's alarm, Morpheus said, "No need to panic. I'll handle this personally. You all just keep doing what you're supposed to do. Don't worry, it'll be fine."

With that, he glanced at Saeko. "Come with me."

In the next moment, he vanished with her.

Hisako, seeing this, hurried back to Totsuki Academy to report everything to Erina.

Erina was initially displeased that Hisako had contacted Morpheus over Saeko's claims.

But when she heard Morpheus was pleased about it, she let it go.

When she learned Saeko had become Morpheus's follower, she clicked her tongue. What a lucky woman.

Then, when Hisako confirmed that Morpheus verified Saeko's story as true, her expression changed.

But upon hearing that Morpheus would handle it personally, she relaxed.

If Lord Morpheus was taking charge, the crisis would likely be averted.

Lord Morpheus was right—she didn't need to worry about this. She just needed to do her job.

The sky wouldn't fall.

"Hisako, come help."

"I need to prepare a lavish dinner for Lord Morpheus by tonight."

Hisako blinked, stunned. "Miss, this…"

Erina said calmly, "Since Lord Morpheus is handling it, the matter will be resolved. Our job now is to do what we're supposed to—prepare a grand dinner for him, not worry about unnecessary things."

Hisako paused, then realized she was right. With Lord Morpheus taking action, what was there to worry about?

"Miss, I'm coming to help." She smiled and walked toward Erina.

Hi guys, Elenea here! I just want to announce that starting now I'll be trying to focus on my own original fanfic, which I've been thinking about for the past few days (lol I really mulled this over briefly for a few days and decided I'm going to make it a full novel).

[Worse Than the Devil (DxD)]

Synopsis:

Devil.

An evil and chaotic creature, born from hell, which are often a scapegoat for humans. Blamed for the atrocities they themselves commit.

"The devil made me do it."

A phrase always uttered by humans after committing crimes, casting blame and responsibility for their wrongdoings onto the devil.

But not all humans are like that, for there is one man who would gleefully commit atrocities that would be condemned by all of human history and accept the blame and responsibility for those wrongs with open arms.

His name is Michael, but in stark contrast to the meaning of his name 'Who is like God' he is not a devout man who draws near to God's embrace. Instead… he is the one who sends lost sheep to meet God's embrace much faster.

Btw, a quick note before you decide to read, if you have a heart as pure as glass, I suggest you don't read this because it REALLY gets dark to early. The first chapter will give you a little idea of what I might explore later on in this fanservice harem-themed world like DxD.

Adios!
