Chapter 48 - [48] A diffent type of touch

Kyle stood at the top of the skyscraper, a smile on his face as he watched Himiko plummet, racing through the night.

A small smile crept up to his face as their eyes met. Himiko's eyes were wide in shock, while his were glistening with amusement.

He breathed out a sigh. She had finally opened up to him, and now…

He took a step off the building, his arms folded behind his back.

Kyle could finally trust her.

Before Himiko could blink, Kyle was right next to her, falling at the exact pace Himiko was falling.

She immediately grabbed him by his collar and pulled herself to him, wrapping her thighs around his waist. "K-K-Kyle, what are y-you d-doing?!"

Kyle laughed in amusement, each second bringing them closer to an unceremonious landing.

"Have you heard the story of Thanos and Eros?" he asked, a mischievous smile playing on his lips.

Himiko blinked, her throat suddenly going dry.

'Is he crazy??'

She had read a lot of novels, and although she had not read the book itself, she knew exactly what it was about.

Thanatos, those drawn to death, oblivion, and the unknown.

Eros, those drawn to life, love, and passion…

A story about two lovers, a dysfunctional couple that fell in love only to commit double suicide at the end.

Himiko's breath hitched in her throat. "Y-you're kidding, right? Right??"

Kyle simply smiled, which only made Himiko curse inwardly.

"Kyle?!?!"

'Am I really going to die? Was the man in front of me really a devil all this time?'

Today had been perfect. Not only had she thoroughly enjoyed herself, she felt true happiness for the first time in a while.

She wanted that happiness to last…

But the world didn't always work the way we wanted it to.

She let out a tired breath and smiled painfully as she met his gaze. Kyle looked perfectly at peace, as though they were not seconds away from turning into a mere stain on the pavement.

'How can someone this great, and be so crazy at the same time?'

The city lights blurred past them as they sped toward the ground like a comet, both in each other's embrace.

In a few seconds, they would crash.

Everything would end—their night, their conversation…

Himiko closed her eyes, resigning herself to her fate. But just as they were seconds away from crashing, Kyle leaned in and whispered, his warm breath tickling her ears,

"Gotcha."

"Huh?" Himiko's eyes shot open, and in that moment, Kyle wrapped his arms around her, taking over their descent.

They were no longer falling…

"How is this possible?"

They were… flying?

"Let me show you what freedom looks like!"

Himiko held Kyle tightly as he cut through the air like an arrow.

The cold wind was whistling past her ears, the air was invading every part of her clothing, and her hair was billowing behind her as they flew.

Kyle pulled his hood over his head and pulled hers to partially cover her face as well.

'So that was why he…'

He smirked devilishly. "You were so serious, I felt a prank would lighten up the mood."

"Did you really think I was going to kill us both?" His childish laughter rang in her ears, and Himiko frowned before playfully punching him.

"You nearly gave me a heart attack!"

She took a deep breath, still too afraid to take her eyes off Kyle.

"You never told me you had a quirk..."

Kyle shrugged. "That is because I don't have one."

"Then how is…?"

"I know you have many questions. I'll do my best to answer all of them soon. But first, look around you."

Himiko turned to observe her surroundings, and for a second, she forgot to breathe.

Kyle was flying so fast that she barely had more than a second to observe anything.

He flew low, so close to the cars that if she reached out, she could touch them. Then he flew through a tunnel, the speed of his flight so much that it created reverberations in the wind.

The tunnel lights cut past them like a mirage, alternations of darkness and light, just before they returned to the beauty of the night.

From great heights to nearly ground level, Kyle kept flying, never once stopping.

He rotated in the air and Himiko grabbed on tightly, her breath hitching in her throat as she stared at the fall that awaited her if she let go.

Kyle descended above a river, flying so close that ripples spread out through the water.

Himiko reached out, one hand hooked around his neck, while the other touched the water, sending splashes against them.

And then she smiled. "Whoohoo!" she screamed at the top of her voice, giggling just as Kyle shot up like a rocket.

Meanwhile, while Himiko's attention was on the city, Kyle had his eyes fixed on her.

He stared as the city lights reflected in her golden pupils. He watched as her face lit up whenever he did a stunt…

Kyle smiled when she smiled and laughed whenever she giggled.

Himiko was doing things to him that he could not explain. Her presence was like a breath of fresh air, and just a smile was enough to make his heart race.

She was beautiful.

If it was up to Kyle, he would freeze time and savor this moment for as long as he possibly could.

But the world did not work that way. Tsumi was probably dozing in the living room waiting for him, and both he and Himiko had work in the morning.

The night had to end.

And he still needed to turn her.

"Miko, where do you live?"

Kyle could tell that Himiko felt the same way, but she too understood that this moment could not last forever.

Following her directions, Kyle flew to the other side of the city and arrived at Himiko's place, slowly descending until both their feet touched the floor.

Then he scratched his head as he watched her. 'This explanation is going to be a very long one…'

"Miko, I need you to know that you always have me."

She nodded her head. "Mmm."

"Whenever you have the urge to feed, I'll be there for you…"

Himiko kept her eyes on the floor. "Mmm."

"I will never push you away because I accept you for who you are."

This time she did not answer, but his words made her heart melt. All her life, all she wanted was to be accepted, and now she had someone who wasn't bothered by the way she was.

Someone who saw her and chose to stay.

"Himiko, the truth is… I'm actually a v—"

Before Kyle could finish his words, Himiko closed the distance between them.

She stood up on the tips of her toes to reach him and gently placed her lips against his own, her hands finding their way to his neck.

It was as though sparks were sent coursing through his body.

Kyle kissed her back, his right hand holding her slender waist, pushing her body to his, while his other hand tucked her hair behind her ears.

They explored each other's lips, their breaths steamy and ragged as their passion was let loose.

The world stood still.

All they could hear was the pounding of their racing hearts and the sound of their tender kisses.

All they could feel was the warmth of their lips and the heat radiating from their bodies.

For a second, they broke apart, staring into each other's eyes.

Himiko's face was flushed red, and her amber eyes had turned a deep shade of gold as her pupil swallowed her iris.

While Kyle's normally impassive face had changed, a feral hunger now lying in his dark crimson eyes.

Then their lips met again.

Kyle's hand slid down her body, creating sparks wherever he touched. Himiko giggled into the kiss, her mind reeling from pure excitement and pleasure.

They had no idea how long it lasted, but when they finally broke apart, the two of them were breathless, the silence between them stretching.

Then they both looked away simultaneously.

"T-this is payback..." She blurted out, then her voice became very low as she fiddled with the hem of her clothes. "… for the prank you pulled earlier…"

Before Kyle coukd say a word, Himiko practically ran to her door, muttering a quick goodbye before slamming it shut.

"Mmm." Kyle nodded.

When Himiko got into her room, she immediately jumped into her bed and screamed into her pillows while kicking her feet.

'What did I just do??'

Her face blushed a deep shade of red as the moment they had just shared replayed itself in her mind over and over again.

She grabbed her pillow once more and squealed into it, smiling into the pillow the moment she stopped.

Outside the apartment, Kyle heard everything perfectly well. A small smile appeared on his lips as he slowly floated into the sky.

"Good night, Himiko…"
