HARPER
As soon as I woke up, I headed into the kitchen to make a mug of peppermint tea while I waited for Julian to return with the groceries so I'd know what we were having for dinner.
I was halfway through when something warm suddenly gushed down my legs.
I froze.
My eyes widened as I stared down in disbelief at the puddle spreading across the kitchen tiles.
"No," I whispered, shaking my head frantically. It wasn't time.
I still had at least two more weeks before the babies were due.
I swallowed, trying to ignore it, when the first pain hit.
The mug slipped from my hand, clattering to the floor and shattering on impact. A gasp tore from my mouth as my hand flew to my stomach.
"Shit!" I cried, gripping the kitchen counter to steady myself. "No, no. Not now, babies. It's not time yet."
I whispered it over and over, caressing my bulging stomach as I carefully made my way toward the center table where my phone lay.
