THAT SAME DAY
"Come on, man," William grunted, nudging me to get my attention.
I paused the ring I had been swirling out of habit and looked up at him.
His rum cup was halfway to his mouth. He took a large gulp before setting it down, then raised a brow at me and nodded toward the ring.
"You agreed to come to the club with me. A boys' night out," he said. "You never mentioned you'd bring your wife's ring just to swirl it around all night and—" His nose wrinkled in clear distaste as he glanced to the side, where Richard sat at a separate table, his laptop screen illuminating his face.
"He's worse than you," William added, raising his voice slightly so Richard could hear. "We're here to unwind, not work."
Richard scoffed, shooting him a brief look before turning his attention back to the laptop.
"Ugh," William complained. "I should have stayed home if I knew this was how tonight would go."
