Cerdery was leaning over Hades's table, propping her chin on the arm that rested against the polished surface like a languid cat. The distance between her and Hades was far too close, the kind that would invite the unspoken thought that they were about to kiss, if not for the interruption that arrived just in time.
When their eyes met, Evangeline couldn't control her expression. Reservation flickered across her face instantly, bare and unguarded.
"Angel, you woke up quite early today," Hades said, his tone softening far more than she had expected. The gentleness in his voice was enough to make Cerberus lift an eyebrow, clearly intrigued.
"I… just thought I should sleep earlier," she replied quietly, her gaze drifting back to Cerdery as she stole another glance.
