Chapter 39 - The Tank

Amon walked back to his suite and saw Aron and Letty stuffing themselves with blood hound meat along with Mikayla and Nyx.

"Hey guys." Amon greeted them before joining the table.

Other than the roast meat that they had cooked themselves, the rest of the food came from the hotel's chefs.

"This one's good! You should try it." Nyx said as she pointed at a bowl filled with fried chicken.

"Sure." Amon said with a nod as he grabbed a wing and took a bite.

'Ah the good old fried chicken… the taste is pretty similar to what i'm used to.' he mused before spending the next few minutes with his family.

Once all of them had stuffed themselves, he made an announcement, "We'll be going into one of the dungeons. F rank until we get Mikayla to E and then we'll move on to E rank dungeons."

"What about us?" Letty asked, worry etched on her face as she knew that both her and Aron weren't awakened. Even if they wanted to help, they wouldn't be allowed inside the dungeons by the guards.

"You two stay here. The three of us probably won't be back for a few days so I'll leave this card with you." Amon said as he slid the membership card across the table, "You'll have free food so you don't have to worry too much."

With that, he stood up and looked at Mikayla and Nyx, "We'll have to gear up but…. I guess it's better to wait until we rank up. I should be able to keep you guys safe until then."

The two of them stood up and nodded, their expressions serious as they walked towards the door without a word. Amon originally intended to take a short nap but he pushed the thought out of his head and followed. If they were enthusiastic about working hard, he wasn't going to be the bitch that held them back.

Soon, the trio reached one of the three F ranked dungeons in the green zone. The entrance looked similar to gates from Manhwas in Amon's previous life and standing on either sides of the entrance, were eight foot tall metal golems.

They looked like knights and Amon had no intention of fighting them.

He slowly walked towards them and stood in front of the entrance in silence while the two Golem Knights turned their heads to look at the party of three.

The red orbs that took the place of their eyes glowed green after a few seconds, a sign of free entry.

"Let's go."

As soon as the three of them walked past the spiralling green light, the environment changed. They stood in a cave that had a dim light.

The light source couldn't be found and Amon had no intention of searching for it. Light, structures and even the monsters were merely a simulation created by the dungeon core.

It helped with getting experience and loot but it wasn't as effective as fighting in real life. The monsters here had no sentience or variable instincts that real monsters had.

One could flee from fear, hunt due to hunger and mate during mating seasons while the other just killed for the sake of killing.

Crunch crunch

Nyx turned to the left, her eyes piercing straight through the dim cave. Sitting on the floor was a one meter long rat. It didn't have any fur and looked horrific with rotten patches of skin in random places.

It's front paws held a bone while it bit into it, putting in a lot of effort to break it.

"All yours." Amon said as he turned to look at Mikayla, "Nyx and I will help if things go wrong."

"Kay…" Mikayla said softly as she took out a dagger from the sheath tied to her waist and walked towards the rat.

The dagger was nothing special. It was made of steel and had a wooden handle.

She barely got close when the rat tossed the bone onto the ground and looked up before it's eyes turned red. Without waiting for even a moment, it pounced at her.

Mikayla watched the rat jump towards her and casually stabbed her dagger at it, piercing it's eye while barely putting in any effort.

The rat fell to the ground, it's momentum stopped by the stab as it squealed in pain. It thrashed around on the ground as he rolled over, giving Mikayla a nice long opening for a killing blow.

"They don't sense pain." Amon said from behind as he watched her take the step forward.

It wasn't that she didn't know, it was just a habit. She had fought real monsters that felt pain and fear for more than a year and now, the one in front of her was a mere replica that had no feelings.

"Right…" she said softly as she stayed where she was, waiting for the rat to make a move, which it did.

Seeing that it's enemy did not take the bait, the rat got back to it's feet and ran forward. Aiming for her legs, it opened it's mouth and revealed it's sharp shark like teeth.

The fight was boring, with Mikayla being able to dodge every single one of the rat's attacks before dealing a tiny amount of damage. She killed it after a lot of hits, her dagger's blade already chipped in multiple areas.

"It only has twelve durability left." she said as she looked at Amon who nodded, "Yeah, your class is not made for combat. Durability of items decrease the more you use them and since your strength is low, you need to stab multiple times, each stab reducing the durability."

Mikayla pursed her lips as she stared at her dagger, already blaming her mother for the current situation.

'If only she didn't force me into this class…'

"Anyways, take this." Amon tossed a rapier at her which she caught. It's blade had a red hue, visible even in the dim light.

"It's a rapier that heals itself through blood so you don't have to worry about durability. Now let's keep going."

Nyx stared at the rapier and then glanced at Mikayla, "How much experience did you get?"

"Ten…"

"Better than I expected. As long as you do all the fighting, you'll get most of the experience." Amon nodded as he began walking deeper into the cave.

With health points over 900, he was currently the only one who could take on the position of a tank.
