Chapter 10 - Matches Turned into Needles

Ravenclaw Tower is on the west side of the castle, with Ravenclaw's common room and dormitories at the very top.

Following the prefect back to the Ravenclaw dormitories, Peeves, who usually greeted the new students with pranks, was nowhere to be seen. The prefect leading the way was even a little suspicious, carefully checking the path, fearing that Peeves was brewing up an even bigger prank.

Self-rotating staircases, figures moving in portraits, and ghosts playing and passing through walls everywhere.

Experiencing these novel things for the first time fully piqued the curiosity of the new students, even Lei.

Watching it in a movie in his previous life and experiencing it in reality now were two different concepts.

Finally, under the guidance of the prefect, the new students arrived at the end of a long, winding corridor, finally reaching the entrance to Ravenclaw's common room.

A bronze eagle knocker, after the prefect knocked, began its question: Which came first, the phoenix or the fire?

The prefect, Menxiao Gesifo, showed off his intelligence in front of the many new students. His answer left the bronze knocker speechless.

However, in Lei's opinion, there was no standard answer to this question at all, much like the classic "chicken or the egg" conundrum.

The key was to provide a unique analysis and insight when giving the answer; at the very least, it had to surprise the Bronze Ring.

As long as he achieved this, it would let him pass.

A group of new students, led by the prefects, entered the common room.

It was a large, circular room with elegant arched windows in the walls, draped with blue and bronze silk.

The ceiling was a dome, studded with stars, and the deep blue carpet below was also sprinkled with stars. The room was furnished with tables and chairs, bookshelves, and a white marble bust of Rowena Ravenclaw in a niche opposite the door.

A door beside the statue led to the dormitories above, with the boys' dormitories to the left and the girls' dormitories to the right.

The male and female prefects leading the way were constantly praising the virtues of Ravenclaw, even mentioning that this vast common room offered a panoramic view of Hogwarts during the day.

"Very nice. If the four houses were to be compared, Ravenclaw's common room should be the best," Lei couldn't help but exclaim in his heart.

Lei didn't know what kind of suspicion his acceptance letter had caused among the heads of the houses. Nor did he know that, at the same time, the robbery he'd experienced had also caught the attention of a mysterious figure in Knockturn Alley.

Back in the dormitory, Lei lay on his bed, dazed. Up until now, he still felt like he was in a dream.

He never expected to be reborn, nor did he expect to come to the world of Harry Potter, let alone be able to enter Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Fake, or real? Perhaps when he woke up, he would be dreaming, and the terminal illness of his previous life would all be a dream that was as real as could be.

The next morning, Lei woke up and found that he wasn't dreaming. He hadn't returned to his wife and daughter. His previous life was now just a memory, beyond recall.

Lei got up very early; he didn't want to be late for his first class like Harry Potter.

The first class in the morning was Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class.

When Lei walked into the classroom, Professor McGonagall was already standing in front of the lectern. Preparing her lesson plan, she looked up and greeted him first, "Good morning, Mr. Fasti."

"Good morning, Professor McGonagall."

Lei was somewhat surprised by Professor McGonagall's memory. There were obviously quite a few new students, but she hadn't expected her to remember everyone's name. She didn't make any mistakes with the names of the new students who came in afterward.

Each new student who entered, faced with the stern Professor McGonagall, didn't dare to make any noise, immediately finding an empty seat and sitting down.

After all the students had arrived, and seeing that there were no latecomers, Professor McGonagall nodded, "Alright, class, we'll start your first Transfiguration class now!"

"First of all, Transfiguration is the most complex and also the most dangerous magic in your Hogwarts curriculum. Anyone who misbehaves in my class, I will ask them to leave and they will never be allowed back. I have warned you."

Professor McGonagall's stern words startled the new students, some of whom were still talking, immediately collecting themselves and listening attentively.

"Transfiguration is the magic of turning one object into another. It can turn inanimate objects into living things, and vice versa. Some Transfiguration spells can change a part of a thing, like turning a person's ears into rabbit ears."

Professor McGonagall's classes weren't the liveliest, but they were certainly the most captivating.

This was because her Transfiguration skills were superb, and she herself was an Animagus.

In the first class, after a brief introduction, she demonstrated to the new students how to turn a desk into a pig, and then back into a desk. This incredible display of transformation instantly captured the hearts of the freshmen.

"To learn such Transfiguration, you must start with the Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration."

"For example, how we can turn a match into a needle."

After Professor McGonagall's simple demonstration and explanation of the key points, she had all the new students begin practicing how to change a match into a needle.

Magic, like anything else, required practice to become proficient, especially when it came to controlling the magic within one's body. Starting with small objects was beneficial for teaching the new students how to control their inner magic. This was especially true for those, like the boy in the Harry Potter movies, who could easily cause explosions with a flick of their wand.

Lei felt that in order to turn a match into a needle, one must first know the specific shape of a needle.

The more detailed, the better. When reciting the spell, the image of the pin must overlap with the match. This is equivalent to imagining a mutable blueprint for the match. Only with this blueprint can the match undergo transformation.

The sound of incantations rose and fell in the classroom, some shouted, others whispered.

Looking at the match in front of him, Lei superimposed the image of a pin in his mind onto it.

At this moment, Lei naturally recited the spell, waving his wand at the matchstick on the table. Then, a miracle occurred: the matchstick began to shrink and change, eventually becoming a pin with a hole.

Although the texture of this pin still looked somewhat different from a real one, it was indeed quite good to be able to transform the match towards the form of a pin in the first class.

"Very good, Mr. Lei Fasti, your performance is very good."

Professor McGonagall walked in front of Lei and then picked up the not-fully-transformed pin on the table, praising him.

"Professor, will this pin always maintain this shape?"

"Of course it will, unless you use the Reversal Charm, or until death, then it has a chance to revert."

"Therefore, every student here must understand that Transfiguration is strictly forbidden to be used on classmates. Those with serious violations will be expelled."

After Professor McGonagall answered Lei's question, she also gave a warning to all the students.

Lei had originally wanted to ask more questions, but after thinking about it, he gave up.

I'm just a newly admitted wizard. It's best not to appear too thoughtful when first encountering magic.

For example: When the Transfiguration spell was successfully cast, Lei didn't feel any loss of magic power within his body. Could it be that the magic power consumed by this kind of Transfiguration is simply unnoticeable?

Otherwise, in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, when Harry was learning to 'Summon Patronus', he wouldn't have been so tired after just one attempt.

There were many, many questions like this, and more than just this one doubt. After abandoning the idea, Lei continued to practice the Transfiguration spell.

This time, he wanted to improve the degree of his successful transformation.

While he was focused on practicing, Professor McGonagall watched him several times. After he once again successfully transformed the match towards a needle, Professor McGonagall finally nodded.
