Chapter 14 - Something Happened Again

"Professor Dumbledore, please wait a moment. You need to see this."

Madam Pomfrey called out to Dumbledore, who was just leaving the infirmary, and handed him a report.

"Is this Ray Fasty's blood test report, Madam Pomfrey?"

"Yes, it is. Professor, you really need to take a good look at it."

Madam Pomfrey's expression was serious. Dumbledore took the report, adjusted his glasses, and looked at it.

Dumbledore looked slightly surprised. "Are you sure there's no mistake in the report, Madam Pomfrey?"

"I'm sure, Professor Dumbledore. After the report came out, I re-examined it myself." Madam Pomfrey nodded, waiting for Dumbledore's opinion.

Hearing Madam Pomfrey's confirmation, Dumbledore pondered for a moment, then said, "I understand, Madam Pomfrey. Please keep this confidential for now. I will have a proper talk with Ray Fasty at an appropriate time."

"Alright, Professor. The poor child, how unfortunate."

Ray became infamous, the first boy in Hogwarts to dare sleep in the girls' dormitory.

Even Voldemort, back in his day, hadn't been so audacious.

Consequently, Ray became almost a public enemy to the girls and a laughingstock among the boys.

Holding a copy of the school paper and reading the reports about himself, Ray could only manage a wry smile. He'd simply gone to the wrong place; it wasn't as bad as they made it out to be.

"So? What are your thoughts, our topic of conversation?"

Agnes had delivered the school paper to Ray. Agnes, of course, didn't believe what was written in the paper, because Ray's inexplicable sleepiness had warning signs.

He'd already shown signs of being very tired when Peeves played a trick on him, which Agnes had witnessed firsthand. As for sneaking into the girls' dormitory, she thought he'd just gone to the wrong place.

However, Penelope had washed all the bedding several times.

Girls were more or less clean freaks, which Ray could understand. It seemed he would have to apologize properly after being discharged. But with this kind of thing, no matter how he apologized, it seemed like he wouldn't be able to explain himself clearly.

So, Ray asked Agnes to apologize to Penelope for him. After all, there weren't as many barriers to communication between girls.

"Can you attend the flying class this afternoon?" Agnes asked with concern. She had already agreed to help Ray apologize.

"Of course."

Ray affirmed without hesitation. Flying class was one of the classes he most wanted to attend.

Riding a broom and flying in the air, that feeling, just thinking about it could make one feel refreshed. It was rare to have a flying class once a week, so missing it would be too disappointing.

"Madam Pomfrey, may I be discharged?"

Seeing Madam Pomfrey pass by, Ray, ever the observant one, immediately asked if he could be discharged.

"Of course, Mr. Ray Fasty. You've made a full recovery. Though next time, perhaps find a proper place to sleep before you do," Madam Pomfrey replied with a smile, causing Ray to look a little embarrassed, while Agnes snickered beside him.

"Thank you, Madam. I will."

Polite gratitude was a must. The awkwardness lasted only a moment; after all, Ray's soul was that of an adult, and he had a thicker skin than any child.

The first flying lesson of the afternoon was something Ray had been looking forward to, so he should have been excited.

However, the moment he received his Flying Broom, a strange sense of aversion welled up within him.

He was averse to the broom in his hand, or rather, he was averse to flying on a broom.

This budding emotion left Ray feeling very confused. Flying in the air, whether in his past life or this one, should have been something that excited him.

However, he wasn't excited at all.

When the old, fixed-style Flying Brooms were brought out onto the lawn by the students, some of them couldn't wait and immediately mounted them, kicking their legs on the ground.

Facing these excited and thrilled students taking their first flying lesson, Madam Hooch, with her neatly cropped hair, made the new students instantly turn into good kids the moment she appeared.

Madam Hooch looked relatively young, aside from her close-cropped hair and yellowed sclera. Her age was a mystery; the students only knew that she had been teaching flying at Hogwarts for a long time.

According to Madam Hooch, she used a needle to practice flying. It was hard for the students to imagine, but it must have been a long, long time ago.

"First, place your right hand over the broom, then shout 'Up!'"

Madam Hooch's explanation of the steps was very simple, just like in the movies. This simple process was the first tacit understanding between a wizard with magic and their broom.

Ray took a deep breath, suppressing the feeling of aversion he had towards the Flying Broom. He stretched out his right hand, placing it above the broom and chanted, "Up!"

Nothing happened. It was as if the broom knew Ray disliked it and refused to respond.

"Up! Up!"

Variations of "Up!" echoed across the lawn. Some students succeeded on their first try, others were hit on the head by their brooms, and some brooms spun in place, knocking down the two or three freshmen standing nearby. Many just hopped around on the ground, not particularly eager to rise.

After a while, almost all the students in the class had successfully summoned their brooms, except for Ray.

"Hey, are you alright?"

Agnes, seeing that Ray still hadn't managed to call his broom, immediately asked with concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little..."

"Don't worry, magical objects should have a life of their own. You can try to make them feel your kindness, and maybe they'll be more obedient."

"Oh, is that how it works?"

Agnes smiled and affirmed, "Of course, that's how I always treat magical objects."

"Maybe the problem really is what Agnes said."

Ray thought to himself. He took a few deep breaths, adjusted his emotions, and tried to imagine the excitement of flying on a broom in the air, completely suppressing the feeling of disgust.

"Up!"

With a very calm incantation, the broom lying on the ground shot up, and Ray grasped it in his hand. He couldn't help but feel a surge of joy.

The afternoon is always very pleasant.

In the school infirmary, Madam Pomfrey was organizing the medical records.

The last patient had been discharged at noon today, a young boy named Ray Fasty.

Thinking of the child, Madam Pomfrey sighed with regret. So young, and already serious issues showing up in his blood tests, it was truly…

"Doctor… Quick…"

"Madam Pomfrey!"

A sudden commotion erupted in the corridor outside the infirmary.

With a bang, the infirmary door swung open, and Madam Hooch rushed in, followed by several students carrying a stretcher.

"What happened?"

Madam Pomfrey immediately rushed forward.

"A student fell from a Flying Broom," Madam Hooch explained at once. Madam Pomfrey quickly arranged a bed, and Madam Hooch immediately used the Levitation Charm to place the student on the bed.

The student on the stretcher was Ray, which surprised Madam Pomfrey. Only a few hours had passed since he was discharged, and now Ray was brought in again.

This time, he had fallen rather badly; he was completely unconscious. A part of his internal bone structure was caved in, and his arm was twisted in the wrong direction, indicating a severe fracture.

"How high did he fall from?" Madam Pomfrey asked after using her wand to perform emergency magic, as the injuries were severe.

"Very high! Very high," a student answered, still frightened.

"I was just joking, saying he should jump off the broom if he wanted to apologize. Who knew he...he..."

Penelope's emotions were completely out of control; her voice was laced with tears. She was just a little girl, and she had only made a joke, not intending for Ray to actually jump. If Madam Hooch hadn't used the Levitation Charm in time to cushion the fall, Ray might have been smashed to bits.

Agnes looked worriedly at Ray, who was on the bed, while also trying to comfort Penelope.

"Children! Leave here at once, and be quiet! I'm sure Madam Pomfrey can heal Ray Fasty." Madam Hooch immediately began to disperse the students who had gathered, as the area needed to be quiet.

"Madam Pomfrey, will he be alright?" Agnes asked with some concern.

"Don't worry, child. He's only broken a few bones; he'll be fine soon."

"Oh, thank you, Madam."
