Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Smashed Player

The massive shadow blocked the overhead lights.

Josh calmly crawled out from under the table.

The people nearby couldn't help but gasp in shock.

"What the hell is that thing! So disgusting and slimy!"

"It's like snot, so fishy, ugh..."

"It seems to have splattered from that big creature."

"Could it be poisonous? Damn it, my clothes are covered in this snot-like slime!"

Susanna, while disgustedly flicking off the slime from her body, angrily complained, "Josh! You knew the slime would splash out, why didn't you warn us?"

Josh innocently shrugged, "I didn't know."

Susanna widened her eyes, "How is that possible?! You dodged in advance!"

Josh smiled and waved the hat in his hand, "I dropped something."

Without a word, Susanna could only turn her gaze back angrily.

When the big creature turned around, several tentacles extended from the water, and everyone saw what it was.

It was a giant octopus, three meters tall!

From any angle, the pool seemed far too small to hide such a huge octopus.

Under the octopus's tentacles were countless suckers, from which fresh blood flowed continuously, gradually staining the pool red.

A thick, pungent stench assaulted the senses.

The octopus's body was soft and covered in crisscrossing thin scars, some places even had decaying flesh turning out, oozing gray pus, with worm eggs faintly rolling inside.

The octopus looked as if... it had been dead for many days.

On the stage, the clowns' humming grew louder.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star,

How I wonder what you are!

Up above the world so high,

Like a diamond in the sky."

"Let's all enjoy today's best show!" Fuer's face bore an excited yet twisted expression, her smile forced to the point of distortion.

She fiercely whipped the octopus.

A new scar quickly appeared on the octopus.

It let out a roar, making a sound like a high-frequency electric current.

Fuer looked at the audience, mysteriously and excitedly asking, "Let's guess, who will be today's lucky audience? It surely should be from the VIP seats~"

As soon as she finished speaking, the octopus quickly stretched out its tentacles towards the VIP seats.

A player, equipped with gear, was grabbed by the body and dragged into the air.

Everyone was startled.

That unlucky player was grabbed by the head and feet by two tentacles of the octopus.

Fuer smiled as she scanned the audience: "Let's all guess together, into how many pieces will he be torn?"

Everyone's faces turned pale.

What does this mean?

The man was also terrified, quickly summoning spiritual power to resist.

However, they were all new players; despite having B-level spiritual power, they hadn't awakened any skills and had no idea how to protect themselves.

Amid the ethereal, eerie lullaby chanting and the animals' screaming cheers.

The octopus dragged the player, starting to spin rapidly, as if shaking a toy.

The player and the octopus moved so fast they turned almost into blurs, becoming hard to see, even the player's cries became wave-like.

With a sound of "smack," the player was violently thrown against the ceiling, breaking into several pieces due to the great force.

The shattered corpse fell down.

The dolphins rushed out of the water in unison, forming a circle in the air, caught the corpse chunks, and quickly submerged again, splashing fireworks-like water ripples.

The white water sprays mixed with blood, like flowers blooming on paper in a blush.

The dolphins didn't jump out again, all fighting for the "food" underwater.

Fuer smiled, quite satisfied: "Today our Miss Tuck broke her record again, tearing apart a body into seven pieces with bare hands! It was truly spectacular!"

The octopus extended a tentacle, placing it on its chest, giving a slight bow in a surprisingly graceful manner.

Fuer, clapping, looked towards the audience: "Let's all give Miss Tuck a round of applause~ today's performance ends here."

Everyone was dumbfounded, who would have the heart to clap at a time like this?

The dead was a player!

"Clap, clap, clap."

Crisp clapping sounds rang out.

Everyone followed the sound and saw a smiling Josh.

While clapping, she laughed: "What a brilliant performance, I haven't seen such a wonderful animal show in a long time."

Miss Fuer looked at Josh with satisfaction, sweeping her gaze over the others sharply: "Some others seem not very satisfied? Maybe you all want to see the performance again?"

Who would want to see such a show?

Everyone hurriedly clapped along, stiff and reluctant.

Only then did Miss Fuer put away the whip, satisfied: "Today's performance ends here, my audience, remember to come back at the same time tomorrow. If anyone is missing, Fuer will be in a difficult position~"

Everyone could hardly hold back their breakdowns; was this performance really happening once a day?!

Fuer gracefully performed a bow, turned, and left the stage, slowly disappearing.

But the animals on stage did not disappear.

The monkeys and lions were fighting over the "food" on the ground.

The clowns were angrily snapping their whips and shouting: "Get away! Get away, you beasts! This isn't something you can touch!"

The animals, starving and frenzied, were wrestling with the clowns for the food.

The clowns' clothes and bodies became increasingly tattered.

Everyone looked at the bloody and absurd scene in front of them, at a loss.

"So... what do we do now?"

"What do we do? Of course, we quickly find the equipment and leave the game before tomorrow!"

"If we can't find all three pieces of equipment by tomorrow, we'll have to sit in the VIP seats and then there's a high chance of being selected and shattered!"

Everyone scattered urgently, searching for the monster trigger points everywhere.

Only Josh remained seated in the audience, staring at the stage.

She watched the doll-like clowns and animals on the stage with interest.

Clearly, most of the "food" fell into the water, and quite a few floated by the pool's edge, yet none of the land animals or clowns went to pick it up.

They all unanimously fought only for the food on land, staying far away from the water.

The dolphins frolicked in the water, fighting over the food.

It seemed there was some secret in the water.

Josh summoned a giant doll from the corner.

The enormous doll docilely lay by her side, awaiting instructions.

She patted the big fellow and pointed at the water.

The big fellow shook its head in terror, blocking her from approaching the water.
