The sight of Alex and Maya embracing each other in such an intimate way sparked something inside Sofia that she couldn't even describe. Her stomach twisted, her chest tightened, and her throat felt like it was closing up. She just stood there, frozen in place, watching as Maya rested her hand gently on Alex's shoulder, whispering something that gave him a soothing reaction.
Sofia's mind couldn't wrap itself around what she was seeing.
Alex was never like this with her. Never this comfortable. Never this close. He always kept a safe and personal distance with her.
He was polite to Maya, sure, but it was always on the surface level. He didn't go out of his way to talk to her, didn't linger in conversations, and certainly didn't touch her. Now he was standing there, letting her cling to him like they'd been close for years.
Things were different now. Sofia didn't know what had been going on since she was taken out of the picture, but whatever it was, she didn't like it one bit.
