Chapter 49
Joe's POV
The sterile white of the hospital ceiling was starting to make me feel like I was going insane. It had this weird way of mocking me, 'A king stuck at the hospital,over mere battle poison'. Those thoughts kept on running through my mind.
Every beep from the heart monitor beside my bed was like a ticking bomb, counting down my patience.
I was done lying here.
I yanked the IV from my arm with a hiss, ignoring the sharp sting, and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. The cold floor sent a shock up my spine, but I didn't care.
"I want to leave. Now."
Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing.
"Your highness no". A young nurse said, rushing to me.
The head doctor, a gray-haired man who looked like he hadn't slept in weeks, stepped forward carefully, like he was approaching a wild animal. "Alpha Joe, please…"
"Just Joe," I corrected automatically. That title still felt strange. Like it didn't belong to me.
