Lily's POV
Days had passed, each one heavier than the last. The entire pack buzzed with quiet fear. Whispers of the war grew louder with every sunrise, and the weight of what was coming pressed down on all of us. But while everyone else feared for their lives, I was afraid of something else entirely…
Losing Joe.
I know I don't deserve to say that.
But no one knew the truth. No one saw me cry myself to sleep the night I slammed the door in his face. Not even Sonia, who was in the same bed with me. I'm relieved about that though. If she had seen me, she would've forced the truth out of me, and I wasn't ready to admit it, not even to myself.
But it haunted me.
