Chapter 154 - Chapter 154. Two Ancient Pokémon in Cahoots

Chapter 154. Two Ancient Pokémon in Cahoots

"Ahem."

Using telekinesis to amplify his voice, Natsume made it boom like thunder inside the minds of the two ancient Pokémon.

Natsume rose slowly into the air.

These two Pokémon were not very high-leveled.

Gengar, Lv. 66; Alakazam, Lv. 68.

They clearly had not been released for thousands of years, or their levels would be much higher than this.

Since they weren't high-level, this would be easier.

Natsume flew to a sufficient height and drew the attention of the two ancient Pokémon.

He had to stop them from brawling.

After all, this was a Class II nature preserve.

Any destroyed resources were the bricks and mortar of Natsume's future research institute.

Just as Natsume planned to start diplomatically, the two Pokémon acted like they had seen a ghost.

"Geng—ga!!!"

The ancient Gengar grabbed its head and bolted into the distance.

"Hu!!!"

The ancient Alakazam panicked even more, bolting headlong toward the very snowy mountain it feared.

In an instant, the ground rumbled.

Countless trees were uprooted by the two fleeing Pokémon, and numerous suspended power lines were torn apart by their massive bodies.

Natsume: "???"

What was he, something scarier than Mewtwo?

"Battle Domain, open!"

Natsume swept his hand.

An invisible barrier enclosed the two ancient Pokémon.

[The current battle is a 2v2 Double Battle.]

Realizing they could retreat no further, both Pokémon stiffened.

They trembled as they turned around, sneaking cautious looks at Natsume.

Those pitiful little eyes only made Natsume more confused.

"Go, Great Ball Rotom, Gengar!"

On Natsume's side, the blue-and-white Great Ball Rotom and the smoke-puffing, round purple Gengar appeared in turn.

"Geng-ga!"

At the sight of the ancient Gengar, Gengar nearly dropped the spicy sludge in its hand.

On the other side, the two ancient Pokémon, who had been trembling moments ago, now looked puzzled.

The ancient Alakazam and ancient Gengar glanced at each other, and their eyes simultaneously settled on Great Ball Rotom.

The ancient Gengar stuck out a pudgy little hand and pushed the ancient Alakazam.

The ancient Alakazam kept prodding the ancient Gengar in the back with its golden spoon.

The two Pokémon were wary, and neither seemed willing to make the first move.

"Great Ball Rotom, Cursed Ball!"

A purple beam lanced out and struck Alakazam.

[Because the target is in a special state, Cursed Ball had no effect.]

Natsume blinked.

Aside from Divinity, moves also fail to capture a Pokémon that is in a Dynamax state.

Only after first siphoning away the opponent's Dynamax energy would the rest of his moves work.

With a slight nod, Natsume could now be certain that these two ancient Pokémon were in a Dynamax state.

"Geng-ga!"

"Hu!"

The Great Ball's attack having no effect, for some reason, excited both opposing Pokémon.

Dark-violet light gathered in the ancient Gengar's hands.

[Ancient Gengar's Shadow Ball hit Great Ball Rotom!]

The green HP bar above Rotom's head plunged and only barely stopped after dropping past half.

Seeing this, Natsume was a little shocked.

Great Ball Rotom was quite tanky—how could it fail to take two Shadow Balls?

Even if the ancient Gengar was Dynamaxed, this was still too much.

Something was off about their damage output.

"Gengar, Destiny Bond!"

[Gengar's fate became tightly bound to the ancient Alakazam!]

"Hu—"

Blue light flashed in the ancient Alakazam's eyes.

It was less reckless than the ancient Gengar and tested the waters cautiously.

[Ancient Alakazam's Confusion hit Great Ball Rotom!]

Even with a low-power move, Great Ball Rotom's HP dropped by nearly a quarter and was close to empty.

Natsume narrowed his eyes.

If Gengar took one heavy hit, wouldn't it get KO'd on the spot?

There was a problem—quite a big problem—with the opponent's striking power.

[Trainer Natsume used a Max Potion on Great Ball Rotom!]

"Rotom, Gigantamax!"

At his word, Rotom's body began to balloon.

"Whooo—whooo—whooo!"

The sudden change in size clearly startled the two ancient Pokémon.

The ancient Gengar, who had been raring to go, now stood there dumbfounded.

Over the past few months, the Dynamax energy inside that giant Dragonite had all been collected by Great Ball Rotom.

It no longer needed to use Redistribution Ball mid-fight to plunder energy; it already had the reserves to Gigantamax itself.

"Use Max Redistribution!"

In its Dynamax state, Great Ball Rotom could lock onto two targets with its move.

In an instant, two blue beams struck the ancient Gengar and the ancient Alakazam.

The moment the rays hit, both Pokémon thrashed violently, terror written across their faces.

What was this about—this wasn't Extinction Ball.

Natsume found their reaction strange.

[Ancient Alakazam and ancient Gengar had their energy siphoned.]

Bzzzt—

Blue light flashed, and the two ancient Pokémon were released, each wearing the expression of a narrow escape.

[Great Ball Rotom is fully charged!]

"Fire Redistribution Ball at Gengar!"

Natsume spoke, and in the next second, he froze.

Twin rays burst from Rotom's body simultaneously.

One landed on Gengar, and one landed on Natsume himself.

"Huh?" Natsume made a small noise.

Although after Gigantamaxing, Great Ball Rotom could target multiple objects with the move, Rotom was already Gigantamaxed.

"Geng—ga!"

Gengar opened its mouth wide like a great gate to the netherworld and began to Gigantamax.

This time, however, black lines crawled all over its body.

Black and violet interlaced, and the vast, shadow-wreathed, gaping maw looked from afar like a colossal doorframe carved with black reliefs.

[Gengar Gigantamaxed!]

[Gengar underwent Primal Reversion!]

Natsume snapped his head toward Rotom.

[Great Ball Rotom underwent Primal Reversion!]

Sure enough, countless black patterns began to spread across Great Ball Rotom as well.

Primal Reversion?

What was this—like with Groudon and Kyogre?

Natsume stared, then appraised them, and found that in addition to the Dynamax boost, Rotom's and Gengar's attributes had risen even further.

That shouldn't be right.

He remembered that the markings on Groudon and Kyogre weren't pitch black.

By comparison, the patterns on these four Pokémon here looked like crude imitations.

Who did this?

Natsume was puzzled.

Long ago, he had considered a question.

Since the energy inside Eternatus can make Pokémon Dynamax and form a Dynamax battle system, then if the power within Groudon and Kyogre were deconstructed in some way, could Pokémon undergo Primal Reversion, forming a new battle system?

Back then, Natsume discarded the idea as soon as it occurred to him.

The Divinity within Eternatus was of little consequence, but Groudon and Kyogre held the authority of land and sea.

If anything went wrong, it could well lead to the end of the world.
