Chapter 10 - Chapter 8- It’s fine Kanika

Kanika's POV

Sun rays filtered into the room through the windows. It was already 8:30 am, and I don't know how long I had been up, but I was just rolling around in bed lazily. It's a good thing today is Saturday and not some working day because I have no energy for doing anything. I took my phone and started scrolling reels right away, out of a bad habit, and as I scrolled, I came across multiple reels of yummy food, and my stomach growled immediately.

"Let's bake some cookies and cake today. It's been a while since I last baked." I jumped out of bed, my body and mind finally having a reason to look forward to something, and I went to the bathroom to get done with my daily routine and bath.

After a while, I came out of the bath and got dressed in my usual t-shirt and loose-fitting jeans, my hair tied in a messy bun. I made my way to the kitchen and started taking out the required materials on the slab — flour, baking soda, moulds, etc. And started preparing the batter, poured it into the mould, and kept it inside the oven to bake.

"Now it's time for cookie dough." I prepared and rolled out the dough and started cutting it into different shapes of circles, stars, and flowers. The cake was done too. I took out the cake and kept it aside to cool down, and placed the cookies inside the oven to bake.

I decided to do a little dusting and cleaning around the house, just enough that my clothes and stuff weren't scattered around and dust didn't pile up while the cookies took their time. As I was getting done with cleaning, the doorbell rang. I went to check who it might be as I wasn't expecting any deliveries or guests today.

"KANUUU!!!" As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted by Vanya with a warm hug and enthusiastic tone, calling my name.

"As energetic as ever." I chuckled as I hugged back and went inside.

"It smells like chocolate and vanilla, Kanu. It smells yummy," she said dreamily, making her way to the kitchen to find the source of the smell, and I followed behind to take out the cookies from the oven. Her mouth started drooling as I kept cookies aside too, so that they could cool down.

"Let them cool down first, then tell me how to make a sudden visit?" I dragged her into the hall as she insisted on having a taste, but I refused because the real flavour only comes once they have cooled down.

"I have my batch party coming up and thought you might have something I can wear before I go and waste my money on a one-time thing." She showed me her invitation to the club where the batch party is being held, and it's a black and white theme. The guys have to wear black, and the girls have to wear white.

"I don't think I have something in white that is your style, but let's see." And so started our private fashion show with Honey Singh's vocals in the background, I had white in formals and a few dresses that weren't exactly the club type but we styled them with different footwears and jewellery in different patterns and finally decided on a white satin blouse with a V cut neck that was deep enough to not show too much of cleavage, short balloon sleeves and white high waisted straight pants and to style that we chose a black leather belt and golden necklace and a white sling bag it wasn't too formal yet classy and elegant.

"It's perfect. I love it." Vanya chirped happily as she looked at herself head to toe in the mirror.

"It sure is. Now get changed so we can have cake and cookies." I suggested keeping the tray that has cake, cookies, and coffee on the table.

She came out after changing and sat on the sofa and set the clothes near her and took the coffee cup in her hands, "Be careful, it's ho…" My warning was late. She already took the sip and ended up burning her tongue, and because of the sudden movement, the coffee got splashed on the clothes she chose for the party.

We stopped in our tracks, and both of us stared at the clothes, palming ourselves mentally. I took the cup from her hand and kept it on the table, and took the clothes and tried cleaning them with wet tissues. Of course, the stain wouldn't come off easily.

"I am sorry," Vanya muttered an apology in a low tone, her head hanging low.

"It's fine you didn't burn yourself, right?" She nodded in no. "That's fine then, just be careful next time, okay." I patted her back in reassurance and side hugged her.

"Teri kismat mai nayi dress lena hi likha tha shayad." We both giggled at my joke.

(Maybe it was written in your fate to buy a new dress.)

After eating we went to the mall to shop for a new dress for her and ended up going through different showrooms to find a perfect piece and finally found one a knee length satin dress collared V neck that stooped right above her cleavage full length balloon sleeves that hugged her body just right showcasing her curves we also bought golden string heels to go with it and also a pearl bead clutch after shopping for some cosmetics we were finally done with our shopping.

"We ended up buying more than we thought of buying." I laughed lightly as I went through the bags to make sure we didn't miss something.

"I am tired and hungry." Vanya sighed as she leaned on the railing, looking up and down the floors searching for the food court. "Oh, it's near the arcade on the 3rd floor, let's go." She exclaimed.

We went to the third floor through the lift and made our way to the food court, but it was unusually occupied, maybe because today was a weekend and evening time. We decided to go to a nearby fast food restaurant and took a corner table for 3, kept our bags at one chair, sat face to face, and went through the menu.

"I will have spring rolls and Pepsi. What about you, Kanu?" Vanya questioned as she kept down her menu and called for the waiter to give an order.

"I will have honey chili potatoes," I responded by handing the menu to the waiter.

After a few minutes the waiter brought our orders and we thanked him in unison as he left but I remembered I didn't order anything for drinks but the waiter was already occupied and didn't listen to my calling so I went to the counter myself and ordered for a mountain dew I took it and turned to go to the table without noticing that someone was already standing behind me and almost bumping into him.

"I am sorry for not noticing. I didn't splash it on you, right?" I questioned hastily without looking up at the person as I took some tissues from the counter.

"It's fine, Kanika." I stopped mid-track, the voice way too familiar, the color left my face as I turned to look at the person. "You didn't splash it." He reassured me with a smile, but I was in no condition to smile anymore.
