Pov: Eirian
"I was planning to do so from the beginning," Amiel said, not wavering. "I swore to protect this nation."
"Your will that is?" One of the men asked.
He nodded.
"So all of you have made pacts already?" Another man asked.
"Yes, we all made pacts already," Ael replied, looking up.
"Mind your gaze." One of the eight men said.
"Of course," Ael lowered his eyes.
"Then let's get started." The man sitting in the middle let out. "Step up."
Unkneeling, I walked forward to Leuan. He took a knife out that was hitched on his belt. Taking out my hand, he grabbed it and cut across. He does the same with the others.
"Through the god of death, do you swear to tell the truth?"
"Yes, for if I don't, may she take my life." We all let out, as Eira struggled to figure out what to say, only to reply after us.
The room grew quiet.
"Now ask them, Leuan." One of the men said, waiting impatiently. He nodded.
"Have you spoken to the God of Numen herself?" He asked as he gazed at us.
"Yes." I let out. The other do the same. A light shone from above us, and the world grew quiet for a moment. It felt as if the light itself was judging us. When the light finally dimmed, it was confirmed. What we had been saying was true.
"Can't believe it." They let out. "Leuan, for now, this is your top priority: train them the best you can."
He nodded. "Of course, I will make sure to make them the best they can be."
"Also, we cannot let anyone know of this. If people found out about this, a huge bounty would be put on their heads. There are already many people who want to see you dead. We need to keep this under wraps."
"Of course." He replied.
"For now, lead them to their quarters."
"What about my family?" Amiel asked before they could drag him out.
"With due time." The man on the far end of the semicircle replied.
We are led to a room in the cathedral with two bunk beds on either side. The room was small but comfy. The flooring was made of stone, and there was a window that looked out into the city.
"In some way, everything worked out, huh?" I let out.
"Seems like it," Ael replied. He turned towards Amiel, "What do you even plan to do when you return to your family?"
"I don't know… I just want to see if everything is okay."
"In a way, through this whole event we lost something…" Eira stared down at her feet as she sat down at the edge of her bed.
We all get silent.
"I didn't know that was what you offered Amiel." Ael turned towards Amiel as he leaned against a wall.
"I offered to protect this country because it is my home, there is nothing less to that. It is what my father would have done."
"What about you, Ael?" Eira turned her head to Ael as he walked towards the window to look out of it. "What did you offer?"
"I would rather not say." He replied.
"Aw, why?" She let out.
"As you said before, wills are important to the person." He reeled his head back from looking outside the window.
"I'll share mine if you share yours," she continued.
"Let him be," I said as I sat across from her.
"You're going to share your regardless." Ael replied, laughing as she placed her hand behind her head, "You're right."
"So, what is it?" I asked.
"I want to get my memories back. Just like I told them."
'That makes sense, someone without memories is lost without them. I wonder how scary the world is for her.'
"We should get some rest, it's turning dark soon. Plus, Leuan said we would be up and early tomorrow." Ael let out.
"You really think he is going to train us?" I asked Ael.
"That's what it seems like."
The next day came, and the birds chirping could be heard outside the window. When the door slammed open, a tall man could be seen outside.
"Wake up!" Leuan said. "Oh, you are." He stared at us we got ready.
"We were woken up by dawn plenty of times before; this isn't new," Ael replied, straightening himself up.
"Then what took you all so long before?" He was referring to the camp by the veil.
"You guys were partying all night long, and we weren't able to get any good sleep because of it," Amiel replied, putting on his boots.
Leuan calmed down a bit, "Well, good then." He turned to walk down the hall, "We have a truck waiting for us, well, two." He turned to Amiel. "One is for you. As promised, you will be heading home for a week; after that, you will make your way back and start training as soon as possible."
Amiel turned with a shocked expression, "Thank you."
Getting down to the truck, it was snowing. I could see Amiel making his way to his truck as we reached ours.
"I'll see you in a week," I yelled to catch his attention. He turned and nodded before getting in the back.
As I sat down on the left side of the wall where the seat runs parallel to it, Eira got in behind me. "Where are we going?" She asked.
"To your new home," Leuan replied as he relaxed sitting down. "Well, for the couple of months that is."
