Chapter 90: The Demoness's Voice
Leonard had been hinting to Dunn that the Demoness was a man who had changed, but unfortunately, Dunn didn't understand his meaning, only thinking that the other party had a younger sister in Theosophy Order. This made Leonard feel helpless.
While their conversation was still ongoing, Lu Ze took the wanted poster and examined the shy, round-faced man's appearance. Below the man's portrait were the details of the crimes he had committed:
"Terrence, suspected Beyonder, initially assessed as a Sequence 8 Instigator, not ruling out the possibility of being from Theosophy Order, perpetrator of the Clover incident. He landed in Enmat Harbor and, according to eyewitness accounts, has arrived in Tingen City. His current whereabouts are unknown."
The Clover incident was a heinous case that occurred a while before Lu Ze's transmigration. A merchant ship named the "Clover" was first attacked by pirates, and then a fierce internal conflict erupted among the people on board. Some passengers on the ship were driven by primitive desires, fell into chaos and madness, and engaged in widespread killing and destruction. It was later inferred that the root cause of the conflict was likely Terrence, a passenger on the ship, who used his Beyonder abilities to instigate people to commit evil.
Combining this with the name of the potion, "Instigator," Lu Ze guessed that Terrence's purpose in creating the Clover incident was for "acting," in order to digest the potion more quickly.
To digest a potion, would he not hesitate to kill so many people? Or did this potion require harming others as a prerequisite for acting?
How cruel.
Lu Ze thought to himself. The Secrets Supplicant Pathway was so insane. Perhaps in the future, he would also face a similar situation. What would he choose then?
While he was contemplating, Leonard had already explained the matter clearly—he suspected that Terrence had drunk the potion and had changed from a man to a woman. This surprising yet logical guess shocked both Klein and Dunn.
"No wonder the divination yielded no results at the time; it was because he had fundamentally changed," Klein said. "Perhaps I can use this new clue for divination."
"Divination isn't necessary for now. We've already narrowed it down to the last area, and we can pinpoint the location this afternoon," Dunn shook his head. "Everyone, get ready. We're leaving immediately."
They were about to find the Demoness?
Lu Ze immediately looked up, "Captain, can you take me with you?"
The three who were tidying up their things all looked over.
"The opponent is very likely a Sequence 7 powerhouse. Your Sequence is too low. If Klein wasn't needed to determine the location, I wouldn't even plan on bringing him."
Dunn's iron-gray eyes were deep and calm as he calmly refused Lu Ze.
But I really need the Demoness's heart.
Lu Ze smiled and said, "Captain, don't forget, when I was in Enmat Harbor, I fought against a Sequence 5! And I still have that item you asked me to keep. Self-preservation is definitely not a problem."
He pressed the inner pocket of his chest, reminding Dunn that he was carrying the clockwork clown.
Seeing Dunn still hesitate, he added, "And I'm very knowledgeable about ritual magic. Perhaps I can help you during the investigation."
Dunn thought for a moment and asked, "Did you get enough rest this morning?"
"Absolutely no problem."
Lu Ze replied.
With the conversation at this point, Dunn had no reason to refuse. The four put on their trench coats and hats, left the company, and boarded a carriage to the last uninvestigated area.
Tingen City, West District.
It was evening, the Sun was setting in the west, shining on the Tasok River, and the shimmering waves were like golden, sparkling scales, dancing on the water. It was just a pity that the river water smelled somewhat fishy and foul, and the streets along the river were also muddy, spoiling people's enjoyment of the beautiful scenery.
"Everyone, pay attention. The target is a gray-blue two-story house with a garden."
The Nighthawks leaned against the windows on both sides of the carriage, secretly peering out, searching for a house that met the requirements.
Lu Ze sat on the soft cushions of the carriage. The carriage was swaying, and the warm afternoon breeze blew on his face, making him feel sleepy again.
No, I can't fall asleep.
Think of something else quickly, wake up.
Speaking of which, what does Ms. M collect vitality for? If it's for a cursing ritual, that's fine, but if she's using it to heal her injuries, can I add something to it?
"Come here."
Just then, a woman's voice suddenly came to his ear.
Who is it?
Lu Ze jolted, immediately no longer sleepy. He looked up with a hint of surprise. The carriage was full of men, and the people on the street outside were some distance from the carriage, so such a clear voice couldn't have come from them.
"Come here."
The voice sounded again, full of seduction and teasing, and a hint of imperceptible chill, like a smooth, cold snake scale brushing past his ear.
Lu Ze didn't speak. He looked left and right at his colleagues, noticing that the others were still focused on searching for the target house. It seemed that he was indeed the only one who heard this voice.
Is it because of the Listener characteristic that I'm hearing things I shouldn't again?
Lu Ze had already had experience seeing unpleasant things, so he didn't panic. Instead, he relaxed and suppressed his hearing. But the voice not only didn't disappear but grew louder and louder. The woman making the sound was softly murmuring, utterly enchanting. The voice echoed in Lu Ze's mind, and his head began to ache.
It was then that he finally understood the problem.
No, it's not that I couldn't suppress my hearing; it's that our carriage is approaching the sound source!
Is this the Demoness's doing?
Lu Ze took a deep breath, fully controlling his senses, trying his best to minimize the impact of the sound.
"Found it, it's here."
At this moment, he heard Klein's confirming voice.
Looking out the carriage window, a gray-blue two-story house came into view. It had a dilapidated garden with withered plants, and only a few rose bushes were still blooming brightly by the wall, but they did nothing to change the overall atmosphere.
Through his eyes, Lu Ze saw something translucent slowly moving in the shadows of the first floor, like several invisible giant snakes.
"Keep going forward."
Dunn identified the house and instructed the coachman, Cezar, not to stop but to maintain a steady speed. The carriage continued for a few more blocks until the house was out of sight before quietly stopping.
"Don't rush over yet. When night falls, we can better utilize our abilities. Before that, we'll monitor from outside."
Dunn said.
The others nodded in agreement. Lu Ze thought to himself, I should have told Cecilia before leaving, so she wouldn't worry.
No, Ms. M can share his vision, so she'll probably remind her sister. Lu Ze endured the seductive voice of the woman in his head, smiling bitterly. He really didn't want that crazy woman to influence Cecilia.
Time passed minute by minute. Since it was already evening, night quickly fell.
Beside the carriage, the Tasok River flowed quietly in the Darkness.
"Alright, let's begin. Klein, you don't need to fight; just observe the atmosphere of the battle. Leonard and Lu Ze, follow me."
"Yes."
The others followed Dunn's arrangements.
It was a new moon tonight, and the crimson moonlight was not obvious. Klein stayed a dozen meters away, nervously watching the three quietly approach the house.
A battle was inevitable.
