Chapter 33 Servant Bell
After about ten minutes, the police slowly arrived at the asylum. They were met with a horrific scene of sacrifice and a vast amount of cash. The police were so shocked that their eyes practically glowed green. If it weren't for the strange scene and Lu Ze standing nearby, covered in blood and holding a revolver, these guys might have come closer to "inspect" it thoroughly.
If that were the case, it would be hard to say how much cash would be left in the end. After all, even if the money was less, we could just declare to the public that it was "accidentally lost during the investigation."
——The reputation of the Loen police is only average, but Lu Ze feels that they can really do it.
Another six or seven minutes later, Dunn, Leonard, and Frye hurried over in a carriage.
"team leader."
Lu Ze was guarding a large amount of cash, bathed in countless greedy and fearful gazes, his heart was always tense, and he only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Dunn's calm face.
"Two Beyonders attempted to use a ritual to pray to the evil god to give birth to a woman. I killed one, and the other escaped. The one who escaped was called Lanevus. He's a con man. He's been in the newspapers, so his portrait should be easy to find." He quickly approached Dunn and succinctly shared the important information. "Lanevus carries the aura of the evil god and is extremely dangerous. I recommend pursuing him immediately."
After listening to his description and carefully examining the scene, Dunn stood up and went to negotiate with the police chief in the distance. After a few words, the inspector nodded, called his officers to form a team, and left.
After sending the police away, Dunn began to deal with the scene.
"Lu Ze, go talk to the asylum and ask them to leave. Frye and Leonard, take the body bag off the car."
"yes."
The three of them responded at the same time.
Before leaving, Leonard winked at Lu Ze and said with a smile, "That's the third one! That's awesome!"
He was probably saying that Lu Ze had killed three people.
You think I want to.
Lu Ze rolled his eyes at him and walked up to Dr. Wilder.
"Mr. Londall, you actually have a connection with the police! But, what is the situation?"
"I'm sorry, Dr. Wilder, I can't answer you. Please don't spread the news about today. Someone will come to question you and take your statement later." Lu Ze replied, "Also, we need you to leave the scene. Oh, and by the way, it would be great if you could provide another bag. We need it to hold the money."
After persuading the asylum staff to leave, Leonard and the others didn't rush to put Hood Eugen's body into the body bag. Instead, they stayed by the body, quietly waiting for something. The sight of several people silently watching a corpse in the middle of the night was truly eerie.
Like some evil party.
Lu Ze complained in his heart.
Then he followed the others' example, crossed his arms, and stared at Hood Eugen's body.
Soon, tiny specks of golden light began to appear on the surface of Hood Eugen's corpse. These tiny specks of light detached from the body and floated upward, then converged into a vortex like the center of a storm. Soon, all the golden light had emanated from the corpse and gathered together. The light gradually intensified, accompanied by a terrifying low hum. Suddenly, there was a flash of bright light, then the light faded. An object resembling an eyeball floated in the air for a moment before clattering to the ground.
No, upon closer inspection, it looked like an eyeball. This eyeball had a vertical golden pupil, like the eyes of a legendary dragon, quite majestic and imposing. However, for some reason, the color of the eyeball wasn't quite pure; it had a familiar blood-red tinge amidst the gold.
"It smells of decadence."
Lu Ze felt it and frowned, "It must have been corrupted by the true creator."
This was the third time he had seen such a scene, and he had come to understand that the dead Beyonders would retain their characteristics.
"Um."
Dunn agreed. "Just the release of the characteristic alone caused such a large-scale commotion. I'm afraid this person is at least a Sequence 7 Beyonder."
"Sequence 7? Doesn't that mean I'm the same as the Captain?"
Lu Ze couldn't help but startle. Fortunately, he fired without hesitation, otherwise the consequences would be unimaginable. However, Hood Eugen, a Sequence 7 powerhouse, was foolishly fooled by Lanevus and himself. His death was not unjust.
"The captain is not that weak."
Leonard smiled and turned his head to ask Dunn, "Right, Captain?"
Dunn ignored him and took out an iron cigarette case from his pocket. He bent down, carefully placed the eyeball inside, and sealed it with the spiritual wall.
"It's time to collect the bodies, Fry. It's up to you."
He said.
To conceal the Beyonder's corpse, they didn't ask the police for help this time, instead handling the scene themselves. Frye, expressionless and looking even more dead than the corpse itself, calmly lifted the gruesomely dead Hood Eugen and placed him in a body bag, his movements expert and skillful.
Seeing that he couldn't get involved, Lu Ze picked up the bag given by Wilder and turned around to put the cash in.
"So much money. Lanevus deserves death."
He sighed as he put it together. Besides the stacks of ten-pound notes, the pile also included numerous bearer account deposit slips, bills of exchange, and banknotes. A rough estimate put the total value at over eight or nine thousand pounds.
After clearing the scene, Frye returned to Blackthorn Security Company with a body and the unconscious Megose. As for the others, led by Dunn, they began hunting for Lanevus.
Not only them, but due to Lanevus's dangerous nature, Dunn had already instructed the police to notify Tingen's other two official groups of Beyonders—the Mechanical Hearts and the Mandated Punishers. Combined with the mobilized police, the entire city of Tingen was abuzz with activity that night.
But even after so many people searched Tingen from top to bottom and tried every occult method, Lanevus remained elusive. Finally, after a 48-hour, fruitless search throughout the city, the Tingen Police Department issued a public warrant for Lanevus's arrest on charges of fraud and murder. This influential figure, who had appeared in the newspapers just three days earlier as a "representative of young entrepreneurs," was soon back in the news as a wanted criminal, demonstrating a boomerang sense of humor.
Lu Ze's greatest gain in this process was probably the magical item he had secretly kept, which was the bell that could hypnotize others.
Through private research, he thoroughly understood the function of this Beyonder item. Simply infuse it with spirituality and shake the bell at a target. The sound produced by the bell can hypnotize the target, forcing them to obey commands. The hypnotic effect is very strong for ordinary people and can last for a long time, but for Beyonders, the effect only lasts for a few minutes, and the higher the target's Sequence, the less effective it is.
In the end, Lu Ze named the bell "Servant Bell".
