Since the emergence of Gates, countless guilds had risen across the world. These guilds didn't just hold power—they shaped the very future of every Slayer who walked the earth.
And by Slayers, I don't mean just anyone who wields a weapon and steps into a Gate. I mean those with true potential—the kind that can reach A grade and beyond. Even A grade Slayers are sometimes noticed, but for a guild to recognize one… that's rare.
Guilds like Reaper Guild, Mercenary Prime, and others dominate the Slayer world. Even guilds have their own rankings—Country Grade and God Grade.
Country Grade guilds are powerful enough to wipe an entire nation off the map if they wished. But the God Grade guilds… they stand on another level entirely. Those are the ones said to possess power great enough to conquer the entire world in just a few days.
To be recognized by a God Grade guild is nearly impossible. Even Star-tier Slayers, the ones who stand close to the peak of humanity, struggle to earn a place among them. For most, being acknowledged by such a guild isn't just a dream—it's a lifetime miracle.
And obviously, those who rule or own such guilds are Monarch Tier Slayers—beings so powerful they're called gods among mortals, or as some say, miniature deities walking the earth. Their strength bends reality itself, and their names alone are enough to command nations.
I'm talking about all this because right now, I'm sitting in combat class at Nova Slayer Academy, and our instructor is explaining how we need to choose a guild for our internship—a trial run before we officially join one in the future.
The idea sounded exciting at first, but seeing how serious everyone looked, I realized this wasn't just a school project. This decision could shape the rest of our lives as Slayers.
But who am I kidding—
I've got bigger plans than just joining some guild.
While everyone's scrambling to impress a recruiter, I'm aiming for something beyond their reach. Something no guild, no rank, no so-called god-tier Slayer could ever dream of.
But that's for another time.
"Hey Adrian, whatcha gonna pick?" Theo said with a curious face.
I looked at him, trying to hide my thoughts, and simply answered with a question.
"What did you pick?" I asked.
"The Reaper Guild," he said, grinning like he'd just won the lottery.
Figures. That suits his chaotic personality perfectly.
"I heard their training's brutal though," I replied, raising a brow.
Theo shrugged, still smiling. "Brutal? Please. I was born for that."
I couldn't help but chuckle at that. Typical Theo—always chasing danger like it's a sport.
"I… don't think I'll be going with you, Theo."
"I picked a different guild," I said with a smile, giving his shoulder a light pat.
That was a lie. I honestly hadn't picked one yet, and I had no intention of actually picking one. Choosing a guild was just a formality—one of those "you have to decide whether you want to or not" situations.
So I went with Titans' Wrath. Honestly, I had no idea if I'd get accepted—the owner was a Star-tier Slayer, after all.
And we all know how arrogant people are when they have power.

In the evening
After arriving at my apartment—warm, but painfully lonely—I couldn't help but feel the emptiness gnawing at me. Honestly, this wasn't healthy. Sure, as teenagers, we're supposed to spend time at home, but the problem with "home" was the constant ragebait it offered.
Mom, Dad, my sister… they all had something to say, and none of it was worth listening to.
Now that I think about it, no one knows about my parents—except Theo, of course.
After eating the famous ramyeon meal of Otaku champions, I collapsed onto my bed, stared at the ceiling, and pulled out my phone to check the email I'd sent to Titans Wrath—the one about my admission.
It seemed well-written enough to earn some admiration, but the problem was that I'd included my parents' names.
Damian Kade and Selena Kade.
These two are the strongest Monarch-tier slayers in the world. Right now, people at the guild won't see Adrian Kade, the student at Nova Slayer Academy—they'll see Adrian Kade, the son of two of the most powerful slayers alive.
The thought made my stomach twist. I didn't want the attention, didn't want to be measured against legends before I'd even proven myself. If I got accepted, I knew it wouldn't be for me—it would be because they assumed I was a replica of my parents. That kind of expectation was suffocating.
I'll just wait to see tommorow.

The following day
I was met with a message from the Titans Wrath guild confirming that I had, unsurprisingly, been accepted.
Crazy, right?
I scoffed, staring at the notification for a few seconds before sliding my phone into my pocket. Let them celebrate—I had bigger things on my mind than proving a point to some guild.
When I arrived at Nova Slayer Academy, the chaos was immediate. Students were buzzing about their own guild acceptances, flaunting messages like trophies. Some were already calculating how much they'd be "paid" as interns, as if mere exposure to a guild meant they'd walk away rich.
I shook my head. Amateur hour. Most of them didn't even know what it truly meant to be in a guild of that caliber. The Titans Wrath acceptance was just a formality for me, a doorway—but for the rest, it was a stage to inflate their egos.
Theo caught up beside me, grinning like always. "Looks like everyone's losing their minds over guilds," he said, nudging me. "You just keep that calm, huh?"
