"Are you threatening me?" he asked quietly.
And suddenly, Raya wasn't sure if she had just crossed a line.
"I... I didn't mean that," Raya said quickly.
The words rushed out of her mouth, uneven and fragile, nothing like the fierce declaration she had made seconds earlier. Her confidence collapsed the moment Adrian's full attention settled on her, heavy and suffocating.
Adrian said nothing.
He slowly shifted, closing his laptop with deliberate calm and placing it on the table in front of him. The soft click of metal against glass sounded far louder than it should have in the silent room.
Then he looked at her.
"Have I made you so comfortable," Adrian asked, his voice low and even, "that you think you can give me orders?"
Raya swallowed.
Her chest tightened painfully as reality crashed into her. She had crossed an invisible line, one she had always known was there but had always tried not to step over.
