Her balance gave way.
And the next thing she knew...
She was falling.
Raya reached out instinctively, fingers grasping at the air where Adrian stood only a second ago. Her hand brushed his sleeve, but she couldn't hold on. Gravity won.
She landed hard on her butt.
"Ouch!" she cried out, wincing as pain shot straight up her spine.
For a brief moment, the room went silent.
Raya lifted her head slowly.
Adrian was still standing by the doorframe.
His posture was relaxed, one shoulder resting lightly against the solid wood as though nothing out of the ordinary had just happened. His arms hung loosely by his sides, fingers uncurled, unhurried.
There was no rush in him. No alarm.
His expression remained unreadable, calm to the point of indifference, eyes steady and dark, giving nothing away. He looked neither surprised nor concerned, as if watching her fall had required no reaction at all.
As though the moment had never been dangerous.
