"Whoa… were you bitten by a spider, too?" the Spider-Woman, Nami, asked, amazed. She was still hanging upside down, and she was staring at Leo, who now possessed the Super Spider Ability, completely ignoring the fact that he had just kissed her.
"This is my hidden ability," he said, spreading his hands. "Through our contact just now, I have your ability for a short time." He paused, then continued, "Remember the person you met on the rooftop last week? That was me."
"You're the pervert?!" she blurted out, shocked. She quickly covered her mouth, blushing. "So, you can get the other person's strength by kissing a girl?"
"Um… well, it's something like that," he said, a little guilty. He couldn't very well tell her the truth, that as long as there was physical contact and an exchange of fluids, it would work. But through the direct channel of a kiss, and with enough of a medium, the ability he held was more perfect, more stable, and more lasting. He had verified that on Paradise Island.
The Spider-Woman suddenly frowned. "Then last time, whose ability did you get?"
"Ah, this," he said, his eyes widening. He felt that their concerns were not in the same place.
At that moment, the earth continued to shake, and the thunder and roar of the sky continued, indirectly relieving him.
"What is that?"
They both looked up at the city outside the alley. Ten kilometers away, a blue beam of light pierced the sky, and the area of the torn abyss was now three times larger than before. In the abyss, in addition to more black spots of alien machinery, there were also faintly drilled alien flight objects that were as large as spaceships and battleships. The powerful sound of the alien warships could be clearly heard ten kilometers away, making countless human beings tremble with fear.
"Leo, I have to go," the Spider-Woman said firmly, looking at the alien forces in the distance.
He nodded. "Be safe. If you can't fight, remember to evacuate. Don't be as reckless as last time."
"Okay, I will."
She took a deep look at him, then pulled down her spider hood and shot a web at the building opposite the alley entrance. Her vigorous and slender body flew and shuttled up the tall buildings, and soon disappeared in the direction of the battle in the center of the city.
Watching her go, he breathed out helplessly, muttering to himself, "You chose to stay. How could I leave? You fool, Nami."
She was so much like his aunt. When disaster struck, she would always come forward. She was a true hero, with the glorious qualities of a god.
He was not a hero, nor did he want to be one. He was far from the great existence that would abandon his life and everything for someone he didn't know. But he would fight for his love.
"Since you want to protect the world, let me protect you," he said, his eyes becoming brighter. He calmed down and began to look around at the walls.
First, he had to master the Super Spider Ability. He tried to put his palm on the wall. His fingertips seemed to have invisible barbs, and a strange static electricity seemed to flow from them, allowing him to climb up very easily.
He was like a newborn spider, testing his ability for the first time, climbing up a flat wall, moving very slowly and cautiously. He climbed ten meters up, then looked down at the ground below. He continued to climb, more and more skillfully and quickly.
Soon, he had climbed up to the ten-story rooftop. From there, he could see the tragic situation in New York City more clearly. Centered on the Stark Industries headquarters, a ten-kilometer radius had been reduced to a large-scale alien battlefield. The modern city had been devastated, high-rise buildings razed to the ground, the streets burning with fierce flames, the smoke floating in the sky condensed into dark clouds, and countless humans wailing and screaming in despair.
It was a human tragedy. It was like hell.
Just as he was looking at the war in the distance, several dazzling streams of flames fell on the buildings not far away, immediately blasting several low-rise houses into ruins.
He squinted his eyes and looked to the sky on one side. Less than half a kilometer away, several small alien flight vehicles were approaching at an extremely fast speed.
Has the war spread to ten kilometers away?
"Just right," he said, taking a deep breath. "I'll use you to practice." He rushed forward and leaped over the street, more than ten meters wide, landing on the top of the opposite high-rise building. Though not as good as the demigod power he had held before, his body felt very light and sensitive under the spider ability.
He leaped on the rooftop and came to a tall building, just in time to capture the trajectory of a small alien flight body.
Now!
He looked at the flight body within twenty meters, moved his mind, and quickly turned his wrist like the Spider-Woman.
But no web shot out.
"Come on!" he said, anxious. He tried to flip another wrist, but there was no response.
Looking at the alien flight body about to pass by, he gritted his teeth and jumped straight forward. The alien robot driving the small flight machine was taken aback and tried to dodge, but Leo grabbed the corner of the flight machine's pedal with his left hand.
"Get down here!" he yelled, and grabbed the robot's metal ankle with his right hand, yanking it out of the flight machine and smashing it into the nearby building with a force of several tons.
There was another robot on the back seat. Its eyes were full of red light. It aimed its energy gun at him and pulled the trigger continuously.
At that moment, his perception of the whole body was unprecedentedly keen. It radiated outwards, weaving an invisible, dense spider web around him, allowing him to clearly perceive everything around him. He had a natural insight into the direction in which the muzzle was aimed, and as the alien robot pulled the trigger, he dodged.
Zap! Zap! Zap!
He twisted his body with amazing flexibility, avoiding the laser beams that shot at him. He grabbed the other side of the flight machine's pedal, swung his body lightly, and jumped up, kicking out the other alien robot.
Losing control, the flight machine sped up and crashed towards a building.
He was forced to jump off, and as he was in the air, he flipped his wrist subconsciously.
This time, a white web successfully shot from his wrist. He pulled on it in time, and the whole person was flying high.
Behind him, the alien flight machine slammed into a high-rise building and exploded into a shattered fireball.
