Chapter 15 - NEW BEGINNINGS

The magical fruit began to change his body from the moment it entered his mouth and took the very first bite. It set off an intricate chain reaction that spanned multiple organs, systems, and processes; branching throughout his tiny frame like the tree itself. Unlike other food this piece of produce had no waste. His digestive system began working overtime as it extracted essential nutrients, dispersing mana rapidly throughout the little guy.

His mind couldn't keep up with the overwhelming influx of energy, and shut down while his body was breaking and repairing itself over and over again. As he stayed in his coma-like state you could hear the sound of snapping like crunching leaves underfoot.

After an unknown amount of time, his brass colored eyes began to stir under their lids. Slowly, groggily he opened them up. From his point of view, the world had changed, but to any onlooker where a small dying bat had once been, now rested a humanoid creature the size of a three year old human child.

He was no longer in pain; all the bruises and cuts seemed to have healed overnight. He stood up, surprised to even be alive. That's when he finally noticed how much his body had changed. He was horrified to see his physique mimicking that of the being that had just recently torn his home apart.

His legs grew strong and his paws were no longer attached to his wings, but had their own limbs they were attached to. His eyes could even see more than ever before, as though a veil had been lifted.

A flash of knowing blinded him, he gained memories of skills and abilities he didn't have before and he instinctively knew how to use them. It was like one final gift from this magnificent tree, and he understood what had happened to him and began to feel calmer. This ancient wooden being had so much love and compassion for the small creature that it gave its last bit of lifeforce to save him.

The bat shed a tear, and impulsively reached out to the now dried timber. He clung to it like he did his mother. He made a promise that he wouldn't take this blessing for granted, and he said a small prayer to honor the legacy passed onto him.

After a few minutes sitting in silence, he stood up determined to make good on his vow.

He planned to find food and a place to settle. He shakily took a step trying to figure out his new body. One stride after the other, he balanced himself, using his tail to counter the unsteadiness. He knew he couldn't go back as he would no longer fit in with his kind, so he chose to find a different path.

This was the beginning of a new life for the furry fellow.

**Back in the void**

Shouts could be heard throughout the vast expansion.

"...AND IF YOU EVER MISUSE MY MONEY AGAIN I WILL CALL GENE TO UNPLUG YOU!!" I screamed, pointing my finger at the miniature thief.

I ended my rant with huffs from yelling so much. Mumsy, the she-devil, was sulking in a ball, holding her knees as I ripped her a new one. I blew my hair out of my face and putting my arms on my hips I grunted, and turned back to my desk.

"Like I am not exhausted enough as it is, I have to deal with the embodiment of wastefulness. AAAHH! THIS WHOLE THING IS BULLSHIT!" I howled as I slammed my hands on my desk.

My juice — the same one that put me in this whole mess to begin with — fell over.

"Why was this even materialized here?" I hollered.

I conjured a trashcan, threw it in, and kicked it clean across the barren space. It made a clattering sound then disappeared with a 'pop'.

'That felt good,' I thought to myself.

I turned to see the cup sitting right where it had just been a minute ago.

"WHY IS THIS EVEN A THING?!"

*Bing*

'Of course it would go off now — What is it this time? I really am over all of this.'

I saw a red notification blinking by my store icon on my computer screen. I guess my turtle avatar left me with something other than just grief. I grabbed my mouse with a little too much force, and went to click on the exclamation point.
