I could hear Mumsy's voice ring out, "Avatar screen loading now..."
I waited, then my field of vision shifted.
'The sky? What is it a bird this time? Geez, please — when can I stop for a breath? Wait! No, my user is falling. For the love of all that is holy, please don't die, please don't die.'
*Bam*
The screen went blank. "Fuck. I repeat, please, don't be dead."
I tapped on the side of my headset to change my perspective, to see a naked guy who looked to be in his early twenties. He was knocked out cold, but very much alive. I then looked up to see a tree that I assume is what he just fell out of.
'What the heck was he doing way up there?' Mumsy added telepathically.
'I'm not sure. Let's go look. He was facing that direction.' I replied as I once again shifted the point of view. We were now 'in the tree ' looking around when I spotted a small lake in the distance.
'Hey, look over there.' I said to her as I gestured toward the tiny body of water.
'Wow, Lemon. I didn't realize you were such a perv.' Mumsy replied and she adjusted her apron to make sure she was fully covered.
'What are you going on about now? I'm not a...' just then something caught my eye. What is that? A leg?
"Pervert!"
I turned to look at the guy blacked out on the ground. 'Oh, no. My user is a freaking Peeping Tom! When will I ever catch a break? I'm stuck with this guy until he dies. I don't even want to imagen the things I will have to see him do.'
'Well at least this one isn't that bad looking, kind of rough around the edges — the way Mumsy likes.'
I virtually looked at her with disgust. 'What is wrong with you? He could be your grandchild. Aren't you like 70 something?'
It was her turn to look shocked and disgusted. 'How dare you! Your rudeness never seems to have a limit! Since you so obviously weren't raised correctly, let me fill you in. Number one! You never reveal a lady's age. And two! I will have you know my game was released 19 years ago! So, we are probably the same age.' she yelled in my head, as she stood on the side with her hands on her hips. She even huffed to emphasize her rant.
'Huh. Well you got me there. I am lucky I made it to my thirties with how shitty my parents were, but that's beside the point. It still doesn't seem like age should work like that, though. Like, if you were made to be an old lady would that mean you would always be that age or are you actually 19?' I grabbed my chin in genuine curiosity. 'How old does that make me then? What, am I older than you?! So I really am a babysitter!'
'Enough with your existential crisis. It looks like your avatar is starting to wake up.' She replied with annoyance.
I went back down to see the delinquent's eyes moving under his lids as he started to stir. He would wake up any minute now. I looked over to that status screen {No Name; Human}.
'Human? Louhan was of the Neanderthal species. How is there already a human? There is no way its been thousands of years.' I asked Mumsy to which she replied, 'Actually, time moves faster when you don't have a user. It helps show the impact your previous avatar had on the world to help you reflect on how you would need to adjust in the future. Not to say that thousands of years have gone by, Humans and Neanderthals could have been introduced around the same time in this realm. You can go back and look in the history tab.'
'Nah, I don't care all that much.' I said shrugging my shoulders. Like I would ever go research something. It doesn't really matter either way, he is still Human.
Just then the nameless human started to groan and clutched his head. "Serves you right, you Peeping Tom!"
'Hold up, why did it say Peeping Tom?' I asked Mumsy and she looked at me confused too. I checked the status screen once again and where 'No name' just was 'Peeping Tom' now stood.
'Way to go, Lemon. And you said my naming skills were bad.' She taunted behind muffled laughter. She covered her mouth with one hand and held her stomach with the other, giggling.
'Wait! No! I didn't choose that!' I sent back to her with telepathy. I lifted up both of my hands in innocence.
Skill activated: Claircognizance
{User feels bitter.}
Not this again. Breathe. I need to calm down.
Skill activated: Claircognizance
{User feels false reassurance.}
'That's good enough. Man that skill seems to activate at the worst times.' I thought as I brought my attention back to the dude now named after a misdemeanor. 'I'll just call you Tom from here on out.'
