Chapter 6 - The Dark Prince

"Shit! When are these fools reaching?" Dave pulled his phone to check with the security again. The man in a maroon suit, their boss, looked like he was about to end the world as anger spilled from his body.

The so-called boss loosened his tie roughly and let it hang loose around his neck. He ran his hand through his silk-like dark hair in utter frustration. "This meeting is adjourned for today. We'll resume again first thing in the morning." He ordered. Not liking how his time was wasted by some insignificant being.

"Yes, boss!" His employees replied in unison and started to grab their stuff from the table. They warily watched the howling woman on the floor all the while.

Who in their right mind lunges themselves on the wall like it was made of sponge? He has had enough with his latest painstaking scandal. The last thing he needed was another one. One which said a woman was killed in his conference room, when in reality… the said woman fought with the chairs and the table to death.

The double door of the conference room flew open, and two security men in their black uniforms stormed inside. But before they could do anything or anybody said anything…the mad woman stormed out of the room swiftly like a bolt of lightning.

"What the fuck?" Lily blurted and then slapped her mouth for cursing before their visibly angry boss.

"What are you waiting for? Go after her!" The boss shouted, pinching the bridge of his nose. The security man jumped and rushed after the woman. "You are all dismissed. Out." Dave ushered his colleagues out of the room before hell broke loose.

The rest of the employees were more than happy to leave. They knew their boss very well when he was angry. The last thing they wanted was an overnight shift that consisted of going through the financial reports of the entire business year with their broody boss.

"I need her caught. Do whatever it takes." The boss said, sitting back down on the chair. "Yes, sir. God, what just happened? She actually tossed herself against the wall as if it were a damn door." Dave started to laugh at the memories of it, wiping tears from the corners of his eyes.

"Dave." The boss called in a creepily calm tone that made Dave stop laughing. He gulped, "Ye-yes, sir?"

"Do you wish to get tossed from the rooftop?" The man asked, no emotion in his eyes as he stared down at his employee. "No! No. I'm sorry, sir." Dave quickly lowered his eyes, not able to keep the contact with his dark ones. Their boss was extremely scary when he was upset. "Then do what I asked you to. And ask Kai to prepare the car. We're leaving." He said, taking out his phone and typing away. "Yes, sir." Dave left the conference room with a phone pressed to his cheek, making orders.

Meanwhile, Elodie was running for her life. She ran past the empty, long corridors of the building, not knowing where she was going. But there was no way she was staying without a fight. She couldn't let the Dark Prince take her back to DorkVille.

Despite the pain her body was screaming with, she still forced her legs to run faster than the two men shouting and running after her. Asking her to stop. Apart from sharing a language with these people, she couldn't relate to anything else with them. In fact, she was scared of what they would do to her once they caught hold of her. And this fear made her run even faster, ignoring the discomfort in her soles and knees.

Her tired eyes finally saw a person opening a door and walking through. She increased her pace and yanked it open. The middle-aged man who had been there first gawked at her, hiding his cigarette behind him quickly. If he were caught out here smoking, he might as well kiss his job goodbye.

"What the hell? Halloween is not here yet. What are you wearing at work? Which department are you from?" The man started to tap on his phone, wanting to report her, mistaking her for one of their workers.

Elodie had no idea what the bald man, with round eyeglasses and a big mole on his cheek, was talking about. But he was blocking her way. She could see the stairs going down. If she could just finish them, she was convinced she might be able to get out of this monstrosity full of weird people and white eyes that give light on the roof anywhere she goes.

"Where did she go?" She heard the men who were after her, making her panic. She grabbed the man by his shoulders, her eyes drilling into him, "If you don't step aside right now, old man, I'm going to do something unethical to you." She warned.

The old man only frowned deeply at her, "Unethical? Did you just threaten me, young lady? I'm going to report that too. Just wait until I figure out which department you are from." Elodie didn't understand what nonsense the man was spouting, so she did what came first to her mind. She pushed the man against the door and climbed down the stairs hurriedly.

"You! How dare you?" The man's booming voice followed her. "I'm gravely sorry, good sir." She shouted back. But not stopping. By the time she finished the stairs, she was sweating and breathing heavily. Her energy was reduced by the passing second. But she would rather pass out far away from the devil. She yanked the door and shut it behind her.

When her eyes took in her surroundings, she gasped. Her body frantically staggered back, and her back pressed against the shut door. Her chest heaved up and down. She might as well die of a heart attack at this point.

She breathed through her nose, watching the realm around her with awe and wary eyes. Those tall reflective monsters with several faint white eyes…they were everywhere. Standing tall. She was utterly shocked to come across monsters made of glass. Just what kind of portal had Meredith shoved her down to?

Her shaking feet began to move. Her eyes turned from here to there restlessly. The sky…another gasp left her mouth. The sky here had a lot of stars scattered across it. So much that it made her anxious, the more she craned her neck to take them in. It was nighttime. People. A lot of people were walking around, talking, laughing, as if it wasn't dark outside. Aren't they afraid of the night creatures? She thought to herself, clutching the sides of her dress.

"Hey! Nice costume." A man a few feet away from her said, making her jump out of her skin. The man just shook his head and continued on his way. Elodie too started to follow the groups of people. Keeping her head down just in case anybody recognized her and sent her back to the Dark Prince. When they stopped by the red light, she stopped as well. Not even understanding why.

She was surprised by how these people dressed. Especially the women. They wore tight clothes, and they showed so much skin. But…no matter how much she took a look at them, it didn't look like they were forced to. They looked rather comfortable. Were people allowed to walk like that? She somewhat felt happy for them for being able to live their lives however they wanted. Unlike how the women from her realm were controlled over everything.

She followed the group crossing the road like a sheep following a herd. That was until somebody accidentally pushed her and never turned back to help her up. She cursed under her breath, dusting her hands, and gathered herself up. The moment she did, a car swerved to the side, avoiding hitting her. "Do you have a fucking death wish?" The man peered out of the window and shouted at her.

On the other hand, Elodie froze. Her entire body was shaking. Just when she thought the tall reflective monsters were the scariest thing in this realm, she came across the moving demons with eyes that produced blinding light. And people were riding them!

Her eyes enlarged to see more of them coming in her direction. She was shaking so hard that even her teeth started chattering. She was sweating and tearing up. The moving demons, these creatures were coming for her. They were sent by the Dark Prince to end her.

The loud noises, the blinding lights, the monsters, the demons. She covered both her ears with her palms and started to scream. "Help me! Help me! They are coming to kill me! Help me, please!" But no one was coming to save her. Meredith thought betraying her wasn't enough, so she sent her here to die. She blinked her tears as a car was honking for her to move out of the way. The headlights blinded her vision completely, so she squeezed them shut. But it was too late.

The next thing she felt was her body getting hit and shoved so hard that she started to roll on the ground. And the monsters finally released her from their clutches, but she couldn't breathe. Blood seeped from her head and dripped down her face.

It was happening again. But she knew this time, it was happening for good. She was finally dying. With so much pain, so much hatred. She was dying. Her eyes drooped, and she could feel energy leaving her body slowly. And all she could do was lie there and cry as a crowd of people peered from above her. Shouting.

Elodie's mind was racing, her heart slowing down. Were they also sent by him to finish her? More tears slipped from her eyes. They didn't have to bother because she was already dying. People hovered around her, making noises. Were they laughing at her for her failure as well? Her lips trembled.

The only regret she had was not teaching Meredith a lesson for ruining her life this way.

Suddenly, strong arms grabbed her. "Are you okay, Miss?" A man in a maroon suit asked. The same man Elodie had run from, as if she were running from the hellhound. "Fuck! It's her! It's the madwoman!" The man who accompanied him uttered.

And that's when Elodie knew her fate was over. She forced her eyes to open and came face to face with the Dark Prince. The man holding her was the Dark Prince. Elodie silently tried to cast her spells, but nothing was happening. Then she remembers that she had no powers anymore. A soul-shattering wail left her trembling lips.

Maybe if she hadn't left her home, then none of this would've happened.

Her body started to shake profusely, making the man holding her stare at her in shock. "She is having a seizure!" Somebody said amongst the crowd. The man rose to his feet with Elodie in his arms. "I'm calling the doctor!" Announced, Dave, his assistant, was already dialing. "Fuck! Get the door first, Dave!" The man barked in agitation as he watched the mad woman losing her life in his arms.

His spectacular, limited edition suit that looked good to a fault just a moment ago was now filled with the woman's blood, but he didn't give a single fuck about it. He sat in the car, and Dave followed suit. "Hurry the fuck up, Kai! She can't die yet." He shouted at the driver. The driver pulled from the crowd, which was recording what just happened, and raced away.
