Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

POV Naynah

I get into position for the obstacle race. I can feel Ava is super excited, even though we won't be running in wolf form like the others. Let me explain, I'm going to compete against wolves while staying in my human form because everyone thinks I don't have a wolf.

" What if we transformed?" said my wolf

" Ava, you know we can't. We have to stay low profile." I replied

"But can't we make an exception?" she said

She says, annoyed. I sigh.

" Ava, you know just as well as I do that the Moon Goddess asked us to stay hidden. You're the wolf here you should understand her reasons, right?" I said

She growls in my mind, and I just sigh again. Sometimes it feels like I'm the wolf, not her.

" Alright, I'm sure you all know the rules by now." said the beta X-zan

He looks at me with a disgusted glare, as if that would affect me. I know exactly what that look means. And I'm not okay with it. They all think I'm just the Alpha's daughter with no real strength. If only they knew I've just been holding back. I'm Alpha-blooded; what, did they think I'd only be strong because I had a wolf?

I'll show them I'm stronger than they are, even in human form. So just imagine how powerful Ava is.

Most of all, I'm going to kick that girl's ass.

" Now that, we agree on. Let's kick her ass." said Ava

I smirk darkly.

" With pleasure" I said

The Beta gives the signal and we all start running. I'm a bit late to get up, but I catch up and even pass them just a few steps into the race. While they're in wolf form. Weaklings, I say to myself.

I dodge the traps with ease while the others shift back into human form for the next stage. I laugh inwardly. They really thought I wouldn't catch up before they transformed.

I scale the wall quickly, and once at the top, I leap from tree to tree to avoid more traps. I grab the rope and swing back down to the ground, picking up speed again. Thanks to my wolf hearing, I notice Olivia is just a few meters behind me. Amused, I speed up even more and smash through the obstacle meant to be hit.

I swear, I look like a soldier out here. My mom is probably watching, shocked out of her mind that her daughter suddenly turned out to be this strong.

I finish first. I win the race.

Olivia arrives a few minutes later. Feels good to beat her.

"Damn right, girl. We're strong." said Ava

"Look at the Beta… He's gonna blow a fuse. What an idiot." I said

Me and my wolf chuckle together. The others finally arrive, panting, as usual. They look at me strangely. I can feel my mother's presence—the Alpha.

" Naynah." called my mother

" Mother." I said, I bow respectfully, and the others follow.

" Come with me." said my mother

She turns and starts walking. I follow her, hearing the whispers around us.

" Could it be that the future Alpha already has her wolf?" said a female wolf

" No way. I don't sense any wolf presence." said a male wolf

" But she's gotten so strong, just in one day." said the female wolf

" Or maybe she's always been strong... and just held back." said the male wolf

" It was just a f***ing fluke." said Olivia

I laugh internally. She's probably fuming that I'm stronger than her even without a wolf. Keep dreaming, girl. I'll never make her my Beta.

We arrive at the pack house. My mother leads me into her office. I enter and shut the door.

" Do you know why I asked you to come?" said my mother

Of course I do, Mother but I won't say it. I made a promise not to reveal anything about Ava.

" No, Mother." I said lowering my head.

" Do you have your wolf?" asked my mother

" No." I replied coldly, my tone sharp.

" I'm very disappointed in you." said my mother

Here we go again "you disappoint me". No one in the family has ever transformed this late. Gahhhhh.

" You know that in our family, we all transformed at fifteen—one month after our birthday." said my mother

And I transformed a whole year earlier.

" I know, Mother." I replied

I'm frustrated having to pretend I'm wolfless. I've had enough. I just want to shift in front of her and say: Here's my wolf I got her at fourteen. F**.*

" The promise, Naynah the promise" said Ava

" I know, dammit." I said

" Please calm down. I'm just as pissed as you." said Ava

" Your delayed transformation makes it look like you're weaker than the other wolves. We are Alpha-blooded—we're supposed to be stronger than everyone else. But you... I'm not sure you can protect the kingdom properly." said my mother

I sigh, bracing for her to strip me of a title I don't even officially have yet.

" Naynah, you're my only daughter. So with or without a wolf, you will become Alpha. As long as you apply everything you've learned, you can become the most exemplary Alpha of all. My daughter, keep training and grow stronger. You'll be a far better Alpha than I ever was. I'll choose a university that will teach you how to lead the pack—this will be the beginning of your Alpha training. Do you hear me?" said my mother

She uses her Alpha aura—but it doesn't affect me. At all.

" Yes, Alpha." I said

" you may go, my daughter." said my mother

I turn around, my face cold and unreadable. I open the door and disappear into the hallways, heading back to my room.
