Chapter 65 - Vulnerable to genjutsu

In the end, Yujiro's expectations for both of the contestants were clearly too high.

But though they didn't live up to his expectations, it didn't mean that they performed poorly, in fact they performed quite well, at least from Yujiro's view both of them were clearly qualified to be promoted to a chunin.

But the fight from Yujiro's perspective was quite monotonous, Takekumi was constantly using his lightning release to stimulate his speed, to attack the Ame genin, while the Ame genin used the boil release skillfully to force Takekumi back multiple times.

While using water release to block Takekumis ranged jutsus, and using fire release to attack.

As for why the boil release Yujiro had expectations for was reduced to block melee attacks.

Yujiro could see it clearly, the boil release user was not skilled enough to keep it concentrated in an open area, thus he could not use it as an attack like Terumi Mei.

Thus the fight was reduced to a stamina drain for both sides.

Takekumi was too fast to be hit, but he also didn't have the durability to strike through the corrosive fog of the boil release. And didn't have enough chakra to continuously use ranged jutsu to harass.

While the Ame genin had to constantly use the boil release bloodline limit to block Takekumi's melee attacks.

In the end, Takekumi dashed around for 40 minutes trying to land a blow with his sword, before surrendering due to running out of chakra.

As such the matches continued without any pause.

But unlike the last battles that didn't put any of the Konoha genins against each other, this time it was different.

"Uchiha Daichi and Senju Mujin, please come down to the arena."

While Daichi and Mujin were going down to the arena. Yujiro was actually not very confident in Mujin's victory despite all of the provoking he had done against Daichi over the past hours.

The reason for this despite Mujin humongous physical, chakra, and ninjutsu advantage on paper, was because of his past performance with genjutsu.

So despite his elemental advantage in ninjutsu, his enormous physical advantage with speed, stamina, strength and his chakra reserves that dwarfed Daichis by three times.

If Mujin failed to notice and break the genjutsu.

It wouldn't matter no matter how strong he was, if he fell into genjutsu it would be game over.

Despite Yujiro's pessimistic hopes of Mujin's victory, Mujin himself looked like his victory was certain.

When the battle began the two sides started with 100% effort immediately.

But unlike past matches where people clashed with long range ninjutsu.

This match began a bit differently.

While Daichi was launching a great fire ball, aiming directly at Mujin, Mujin himself used an unexpected jutsu.

The C rank Earth release defensive ninjutsu, Earth style wall.

But when Yujiro saw Mujin's next move, he understood why he handed all of the initiative to his opponent.

Coupled with the earth style wall, Mujin also created a water clone which he left behind when retreating away from the earth wall.

Like this, Mujin tried to keep the distance as big as possible between the two, not minding with jutsu clashes, visibly doing his best to avoid eye contact with Daichi.

But Daichi, who knew the difference in chakra, constantly tried to close the gap between the two despite the gap in physical ability.

This was because his only hope of winning was the Uchiha clan's unique sharingan genjutsu techniques.

Despite his sharingan being only at one tomoe sharingan the eye of insight, and not the three tomoe sharingan known as the genjutsu eye.

The unique techniques of the Uchiha clan could still be utilized with one tomoe.

Along with the reputation of Mujin's poor genjutsu resistance between their peers.

Daichi was trying to force a close quarters duel to have a chance of using his genjutsu.

But while he tried to catch up to Mujin, Mujin himself used many techniques to delay and annoy him.

And though Daichi was confused by Mujin's delaying tactics, he only thought that he was using this strategy to make both of them consume chakra.

But it wasn't until a couple of minutes later did he realize that something was wrong.

'There is way too much mist. Although I steamed a couple of his water clones, it shouldn't produce this much mist.'

As he thought this, he reactivated his sharingan, and as he did his stomach dropped.

'Shit! Hidden mist technique.'

The reason Daichi didn't have his sharingan active while Daichi was using the hidden mist technique, was because, when Mujin started this cat and mouse game, Daichi had deactivated his sharingan to save chakra, after all, he wouldn't have a chance to use a sharingan genjutsu on Mujins back.

And because the water clone he created at the beginning didn't start using the hidden mist technique before Daichi deactivated his sharingan, Daichi had no chance to notice it from the chakra in the mist.

And with Mujin constantly using water clones to harass him.

Daichi had to use the fire ball jutsu a couple of times to get rid of a batch of them at the time, the mist in the arena from that also misled him.

And now, the hidden mist technique used by Mujin has already made sure that vision is useless in the mist.

So now it was Mujins time to take the initiative.

"Now that you bastard can't use the sharingan genjutsu on me, it's time for me to end you."

When Mujin said those words, Daichi could hear him moving closer as he spoke, and as he heard the last words, he could already hear a swooshing sound coming from his right, so on reflex he used his hands to block in that direction, but when the fish hit his hands to his surprise, the feeling he got from the blow was like a dump truck hitting him and sending him flying.
