King walked over with a smile.

"Since Kasumi has joined us, we can't really keep calling ourselves the 'Women Fighters Team.' We should change the name."

Mai Shiranui tilted her head.

"But we are women fighters."

"I know," King said. "That's why, to distinguish ourselves from the old lineup, I suggest we call ourselves the New Women Fighters Team. What do you think?"

Mai didn't object.

"That sounds fine. What about you, Kasumi?"

As the newest member, Kasumi Todoh naturally had no objections.

Mai clenched her fist, energized.

"Then it's settled! The New Women Fighters Team is officially formed!"

She glanced at Emiya, noticed his calm expression, and leaned over.

"You already knew this would happen, didn't you?"

Emiya replied evenly, "Not just this. I also know who your future teammates will be."

"In '97, Kasumi will leave, and Chizuru Kagura will officially join. That lineup will last until '98."

"In '99, the rules change. It's still 3-on-3, but with support battles, so you'll need an extra member. You'll join the Fatal Fury Team, which means King will have to look for Kasumi again. Kasumi will also bring in Li Xiangfei and Blue Mary."

"In 2000, Mary stays with the Fatal Fury Team, King leaves, and you return to the Women Fighters Team. What's interesting is that Kyokugenryu-Yuri Sakazaki-and Todoh-ryu-Kasumi Todoh-end up on the same team, along with a newcomer, Hinako Shijo."

"In 2001, Yuri and Kasumi leave again. King and Li Xiangfei return. Together with you and Hinako, that makes the team."

"In 2002, the rules go back to 3-on-3. King leaves due to personal reasons, so you team up with Yuri Sakazaki and the Korean fighter Lee Jinju."

"In 2003, Yuri returns to the Art of Fighting Team, Lee Jinju leaves, and you reunite with King and Blue Mary."

"In 2004, it's you, King, and Chizuru Kagura again."

"In 2005, it's you, Lee Jinju, and Yuri Sakazaki."

"After that, the lineup keeps changing. There's no Women Fighters Team in 2011 or 2012. In 2013, it finally goes back to the original trio-you, King, and Yuri Sakazaki."

"But in 2014, it changes again. Yuri leaves, and you and King bring in a new member, Alice."

"To be honest, throughout the entire KOF history, your Women Fighters Team probably changes members the most. There are years where you almost can't even participate because you can't find people."

"But if you count it carefully, the one who's been on the team the longest... is you."

Mai Shiranui puffed up a little, clearly pleased.

King, meanwhile, was completely stunned.

It was only '96.

Why was he talking about nearly twenty years into the future?

Kasumi Todoh stared at Emiya, eyes wide.

Was this the legendary power to see the future?

King snapped back to herself.

"Emiya... is all of that really true?"

"Of course," Emiya said.

"So you really know what will happen in the future?"

"Something like that."

Kasumi's eyes lit up.

She stepped forward and grabbed Emiya's hands.

"Mr. Emiya, then do you know where my father is? Please tell me."

Her father was Ryuhaku Todoh.

A master of ancient martial arts and the head of the Todoh-ryu dojo.

After losing to Ryo Sakazaki years ago, he believed his training was insufficient.

He left a letter behind and went off to train.

No one had heard from him since.

Kasumi had been searching for him ever since.

"Don't worry," Emiya said calmly. "Your father is fine."

"He's deliberately hiding from you. That's why you can't find him."

Kasumi froze.

"But when you participate in the KOF tournament, he'll hide among the spectators and cheer for you."

Kasumi didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

That really did sound like something her father would do.

Still, knowing he was safe made her relax.

"Thank you very much, Mr. Emiya."

She let go of his hands and bowed seriously.

Emiya waved it off.

"It's nothing. I didn't really do anything."

King, standing nearby, looked thoughtful.

As night fell, the bar grew crowded and lively.

Mai and Kasumi were chatting happily.

CĂş Chulainn had two blond beauties at his side.

Heracles and Illya disliked noisy places and had gone out for a walk.

King took a look around.

Then she quietly walked up to Emiya.

"Emiya, can you help me with something?"

Emiya nodded.

"What is it?"

"Come help me move a few boxes of drinks in the back."

"No problem."

He followed King into the warehouse behind the bar.

It was packed with alcohol-beer, whiskey, Remy Martin, red wine, and soft drinks.

"Which ones?" Emiya asked.

King pointed.

"These."

Emiya released his Nen.

The boxes floated up.

"Just these?"

"Yes."

As Emiya was about to leave, King spoke again.

"Can I ask you something?"

Emiya stopped and turned around.

The warehouse lights cast shifting shadows across King's face.

"What is it?"

King asked slowly, "Mai has been acting strange lately. Normally, whenever she comes to South Town, she looks for Andy. This time, she hasn't."

"Does that have something to do with you?"

"Or... with your ability to see the future?"

"So you're worried about Mai," Emiya said.

"Yes."

"Then I can tell you. It does. Directly."

"The reason Mai isn't looking for Andy is probably because of some things I told her."

King's heart tightened.

Her hands clenched unconsciously.

"So you really want to break them up?"

"Do you like Mai?"

Emiya laughed.

"You've been thinking a lot, King."

King didn't reply.

Emiya clapped his hands once.

"Let me guess. You think that because I can see the future, I told Mai about some mistakes Andy will make later, causing her feelings to waver."

King's expression shifted.

That was exactly what she thought.

"You're not wrong," Emiya continued. "I did say some unpleasant things about Andy."

King finally snapped.

"If you like Mai, you could just pursue her. Why use Andy's future mistakes to shake her feelings?"

"Future mistakes?" Emiya paused, then understood.

"Oh. You think Andy will do something wrong to Mai later on, and I warned her about that."

King stared.

"Isn't that it?"

"No," Emiya said, shaking his head. "That's not it."

"Andy won't betray her."

"He's just not brave enough."

King was completely lost.

"What do you mean?"

Emiya didn't answer directly.

Instead, he asked, "In your opinion, Andy and Mai should be a loving couple, right?"

King nodded.

"Then how long do you think it'll take before they get married?"

"...A few years, maybe."

Emiya shook his head.

"You're being too optimistic."

"Do you remember what I told you this morning? That your team would still be competing in 2014?"

King nodded again.

"I can tell you this for sure. Even then, Mai and Andy still won't be married."

"What?!"

King was stunned.

It was '96.

2014 was nearly twenty years away.

They still wouldn't be married?

Emiya continued calmly.

"And it's not just Mai."

"You and Ryo Sakazaki won't be married either."

"Add Yuri Sakazaki into the mix, and instead of the Women Fighters Team, you're more like the Leftover Women Fighters Team."

King's face went completely dark.

That name hurt too much.

"Every time Mai wants to talk about marriage, Andy runs away."

"And he keeps running."

"For over a decade."

"All I did was tell Mai the truth."

"If she still wants to stay firm and wait for him, that's her choice."

"I don't care."

"I just gave her an option."

"Because it's cruel for a young woman to waste more than ten years on a man who's afraid of marriage."

"Don't you think so?"
