Chapter 159 - Chapter 8: The Deal

Emiya wasn't surprised.

This was the final selection for the Demon Slayer Corps. Someone capable of killing a demon appearing here was normal.

Most humans stood no chance against demons, but there were always a few outstanding individuals.

It was just that until now, Emiya hadn't seen a single swordsman capable of doing it.

Now, he finally had.

Half a minute later, Emiya arrived at the scene.

A girl stood quietly in the forest.

Black hair.

Purple eyes.

Pink-tipped strands tied into a single side ponytail.

At her feet, a demon was turning to ash.

The moment Emiya saw her, her name surfaced in his mind.

Kanae... no.

Tsuyuri.

Tsuyuri Kanao.

Yes. That was it.

Facing Emiya, who had appeared out of nowhere, Tsuyuri Kanao showed no visible surprise.

That was likely due to her childhood.

Emiya remembered her past.

Inhuman abuse.

Crying meant being beaten.

Over time, she had shut down her emotions and became almost lifeless.

Even after being taken in by the Kocho sisters, she struggled to express herself.

But she did have emotions.

They were just buried deep.

Still, her presence here meant one thing.

Kamado Tanjiro was also here.

Emiya remembered it clearly.

They were in the same batch.

The final selection included Tanjiro, Agatsuma Zenitsu, and the boar-headed guy-

He paused.

What was that guy's name again?

Emiya rubbed his temples.

The boar head left such a strong impression that he'd remembered "boar boy" instead of the actual name.

It didn't matter.

Tsuyuri Kanao simply nodded slightly at Emiya and walked away.

Indifferent.

Emiya didn't stop her.

She rarely spoke.

Forcing a conversation would only be troublesome.

After a brief thought, Emiya decided to find someone easier to talk to.

The stubborn one.

Kamado Tanjiro.

After Kanao left, Emiya moved on as well.

He circled a large portion of the mountain before finding his target.

Red hair.

Deep red eyes.

A flame-shaped mark on his forehead.

Not a scar.

A birthmark.

In this world, that mark represented immense potential.

When activated, it greatly enhanced physical abilities.

Records said that when one person awakened a birthmark, it could trigger others nearby.

But it came at a cost.

Most who awakened it died before twenty-five.

It was power paid for with life.

Emiya guessed it involved burning one's life force.

Tanjiro hadn't awakened his birthmark yet.

But having it from birth meant his chances were far higher than others.

In the story, he was the first of his generation to awaken it.

"Hey. You up ahead."

Emiya rushed forward and blocked Tanjiro's path.

"Huh? Me?" Tanjiro looked around.

Seeing no one else, he pointed at himself.

Emiya sighed.

"Only you and me are here. Who else would I be talking to? A demon?"

Tanjiro laughed awkwardly.

"Sorry. Um... what do you need?"

Emiya didn't waste time.

"I want the Hinokami Kagura passed down in your family."

Among all breathing styles, that was the only one that interested him.

Its true name was Sun Breathing.

The origin.

Created by Yoriichi Tsugikuni.

"H-Hinokami Kagura?" Tanjiro looked confused.

Very few people outside his family knew about it.

"Do you... know me?" he asked hesitantly.

Emiya nodded.

"Yes. Kamado Tanjiro."

Tanjiro's mind raced.

"Are you... a relative?"

"No."

The disappointment showed instantly.

"Then why do you know about the Hinokami Kagura?"

"I have my own sources," Emiya said calmly.

"Don't ask. And I won't take it for free."

He took out a bottle.

A superman potion.

"This enhances physical abilities. Drink it, and your strength will increase at least twelvefold."

"You could become the strongest demon slayer in history."

Tanjiro could already split a massive boulder with Water Breathing.

Twelve times that strength would surpass every Pillar in history.

Except Yoriichi.

Tanjiro stared at the potion.

He didn't take it.

Emiya understood.

"You think I'm tricking you," he said.

"Drink it first if you want. Test it. Then give me the Hinokami Kagura."

"I trust your character."

Tanjiro shook his head violently.

"No. That's not it. It's just-"

He suddenly dropped into a perfect dogeza.

"I'll give you the Hinokami Kagura. Please. Save my sister."

"Kamado Nezuko," Emiya said.

Tanjiro looked up, shocked.

"You know her?"

"Yes."

Tanjiro was overwhelmed.

"You must know about her condition then!"

"Are you that sure I can cure her?" Emiya asked.

Tanjiro stayed bowed.

"I don't know. But I can't miss this chance."

"You can make something like that potion. You must be an incredible doctor."

"Please. Save her."

Emiya rubbed his chin.

"I might have a way."

Tanjiro froze.

"R-Really?"

"It may not be guaranteed," Emiya said.

"But it's the most suitable option."

"What is it?"

"We'll ask a god."

"A... god?"

"I don't have a perfect solution," Emiya replied.

"But a god would."

"But... where do we find one?"

"Don't worry. I have a way."

He snapped his fingers.

"For now, pass this trial. Go back to the former Water Pillar's house."

"Then bring your sister. I'll take you to see a god."

"I understand!" Tanjiro stood up straight, determination blazing.

"I'll pass!"

"I believe you will."

The most dangerous demon on the mountain had already been dealt with.

The rest posed no threat.

One day later, Tanjiro passed the final selection.

Not seven days.

One.

Because Emiya had wiped out every demon on the mountain.

The trial ended early.

This time, more than a dozen people passed.

Far more than in the original timeline.

The examiners were shocked.

But they quickly accepted it.

All of them qualified.

They brought out the ore for forging Nichirin blades and told everyone to choose.

Emiya stepped forward with a smile.

"May I choose one as well?"

The two examiners exchanged glances.

The girl on the left asked, "You're the one who killed all the demons?"

"With such a disturbance, of course they knew."

"You could say that," Emiya replied.

"Why?" the boy on the right asked.

"And you don't have a Nichirin blade. How did you kill them?"

Despite the appearance, this boy was actually male.

The head of the Demon Slayer Corps' son.

Raised as a girl due to a frail constitution.

Likely the next leader.

Naturally curious.

Especially about killing demons without a Nichirin blade.

"That's a secret," Emiya said.

He pointed at the materials.

"If you want the answer-"

"Let's make a deal."
