Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Reading Their Own Story

...mouths before they could scream in panic.

Natsume Takashi quickly tried to calm the two girls down.

"No, please don't be afraid. Nyanko-sensei isn't an evil yokai. He won't harm you."

Emiya spoke with a relaxed smile.

"That's right. He's just a yokai with a bit of a glutton problem. With your cooking skills, you could definitely conquer his stomach. Maybe he'd even show his true form to protect you if you were in danger. Right, Natsume?"

Natsume Takashi gave a wry smile.

"I... can't really argue with that."

In a way, Emiya wasn't wrong.

After seeing that Erina Nakiri and Hisako Arato had calmed down, Emiya withdrew his psychic hands.

Erina Nakiri asked, her voice still trembling,

"This yokai... he really won't hurt us?"

Nyanko-sensei shot Emiya an annoyed look, clearly blaming him for his earlier words. Then he turned to Erina Nakiri.

"Little girl, you should address me as Lord Madara."

Erina Nakiri nodded stiffly.

"Lord Madara."

Faced with a yokai, she couldn't muster even a trace of tsundere attitude.

Nyanko-sensei narrowed his eyes and studied the two girls with interest.

"That boy said your cooking is very good. Is that true?"

Even though they were still uneasy around a yokai, confidence in their profession was something they didn't lack.

Hisako Arato answered without hesitation.

"Lady Erina is the youngest Elite Ten member in Totsuki Academy's history and possesses the God's Tongue."

Natsume Takashi scratched his cheek.

"Elite Ten? God's Tongue? A god's... tongue?"

Hisako Arato froze. Only then did she remember this wasn't her world. Of course they wouldn't know those terms.

Emiya barely held back a laugh and explained calmly.

"Totsuki Academy is a culinary academy in the world of Food Wars!. It's basically the top cooking school in all of Japan there, dedicated entirely to training chefs. Most students come from culinary families-children of famous restaurants or major hotel owners."

"Of course, skill is mandatory. People without talent don't get in. More than that, graduating is extremely difficult. The graduation rate is under ten percent. Their headmaster once said that ninety-nine percent of the students exist only to refine the remaining one percent."

"So anyone who graduates from Totsuki is exceptional."

"The Elite Ten are the ten strongest chefs in the school. After graduating and gaining some experience, they're almost guaranteed to become star-rated chefs."

"In other words, her cooking is worth looking forward to."

As Nyanko-sensei listened, drool slowly began to drip from his mouth.

"Gross."

Natsume Takashi felt something wet on his hand. He looked down. "Nyanko-sensei... your drool. It's dripping."

Nyanko-sensei hurriedly licked it back up.

"It's decided. You'll cook for me. Right now. Immediately."

Natsume Takashi quickly stopped him.

"No, Nyanko-sensei. It's already night. Aunt Touko and Uncle Shigeru are watching TV. I can't explain this to them."

Emiya snapped his fingers and looked at Erina Nakiri.

"That's easy. If I remember correctly, you're in the middle of a training camp right now, right?"

Erina Nakiri nodded.

Emiya continued.

"The fourth day of the camp is a breakfast challenge. Everyone has to cook an egg-based dish, and the passing requirement is two hundred servings. Why don't we go there that day and let him try it?"

"Wait."

Erina Nakiri raised her hand to stop him. "It's only the first day of the camp. How do you know what the fourth day's test is?"

Hisako Arato frowned.

"If I remember correctly, the theme of each test is decided by the chief examiner at the last minute. Even the examiners themselves don't know in advance. How could you know? Is this some kind of future-seeing ability?"

The others looked equally shocked.

Emiya shook his head.

"It's not future sight. But it's close enough. Don't worry about it. Just follow me."

With a snap of his fingers, Emiya brought Erina Nakiri, Hisako Arato, Natsume Takashi, and Nyanko-sensei out of their worlds and into his own home.

Although it was night in the worlds of Food Wars! and Natsume's Book of Friends, it was still daytime here.

Emiya's home was an ordinary apartment. Three bedrooms, two living rooms, one bathroom.

He lived alone. His parents resided in another building within the same neighborhood.

The apartment had been a wedding gift from his parents. Unfortunately, he didn't have a girlfriend yet, so he occupied it by himself.

Emiya went into his study, took out two sets of manga from the bookshelf, then returned to the living room and placed them on the table.

"This is why I knew about the fourth day's test. Here. You two read this set. And you two read this one."

He placed Food Wars! in front of Erina Nakiri and Hisako Arato.

He placed Natsume's Book of Friends in front of Natsume Takashi and Nyanko-sensei.

As mentioned before, Emiya was a homebody. His manga collection was extensive.

Besides Food Wars! and Natsume's Book of Friends, he owned One Piece, Naruto, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, City Hunter, Inuyasha, Shaman King, Hunter × Hunter, Fairy Tail, Hayate the Combat Butler, Ah! My Goddess, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Attack on Titan, Saint Seiya, The Lost Canvas, Dragon Ball, Doraemon, and more.

He also had lesser-known classics like Yugo the Negotiator, Black Lagoon, Trinity Blood, Hellsing, and Drifters.

On top of that were Hong Kong comics such as The Legendary Gambler, Dragon Tiger Gate, A Man Called Hero, Storm Riders, The New Dragon & Tiger Heroes, Weapons of the Gods, Jue Dai Shuang Jiao, The Four Great Detectives, and A Step into the Past.

All of them were in Chinese.

Before gaining his superpower, Emiya hadn't been able to read Japanese.

Now, not only could he read Japanese, he could also let others understand Chinese.

He raised his hand and lightly patted everyone on the head, granting them the Language Comprehension ability.

In an instant, three people and one yokai could all read Chinese fluently.

Emiya sat down on the sofa.

"You can read first. If you have questions, ask me."

Erina Nakiri felt unsettled. She could clearly see that many of the characters on the manga covers were people she knew.

Including a manga version of herself.

What was going on?

Driven by curiosity, Erina Nakiri and Hisako Arato picked up Food Wars! and began reading. Natsume Takashi also picked up a volume of Natsume's Book of Friends.

Emiya leaned back on the sofa and scrolled through his phone.

Over the next two hours, Erina Nakiri grew more and more shocked.

She never imagined that a manga could contain so much information about herself.
