Carol was completely stunned.
Superheroes were showing up one after another.
Like a parade.
"Long story short," Morin said calmly,
"We came to find you."
"But the enemy found us first."
"Enemy?" Hal tightened his grip on the ring.
"Where?"
"A small amount of Fear Energy leaked and infected someone," Morin pointed ahead.
"And Parallax is on the way."
He pointed at Hector Hammond.
Hector's head had swollen into a grotesque, translucent bulb, veins glowing yellow beneath the skin.
Hector was panicking.
He had seen the beams of light.
He had seen the flying man.
Pure, instinctive fear surged through him.
He tried to drive away.
Green walls boxed his car in.
"Hal!" Hector stumbled out.
"Hal!"
"Hector!" Hal flew down.
"What happened to you? I can help!"
"Help me?" Hector blasted Hal back with yellow energy.
"I feel powerful!"
"I love this!"
"No one will ever look down on me again!"
"I'll sit this one out," Morin said, floating nearby.
"Your turn."
"No one interfere!" Hal shouted.
"I've got this!"
"You can't beat me, Hal Jordan!" Hector screamed.
"Why do you get the looks and the girls, and I get this?!"
"It's not fair!"
"I can cure you, Hector!" Hal said.
"Cure me?" Hector blasted him again.
"I like being a monster!"
"People are finally afraid of me!"
"Really?" Clark stepped forward.
"Let me feel this 'fear.'"
Hector formed a massive yellow fist and smashed it into Clark's face.
It shattered.
Clark's head didn't even move.
"That's it?" Clark asked.
"Don't kill him," Bruce said.
"I thought he'd be stronger," Clark replied.
"I braced myself."
"I felt nothing."
"Shut up!" Hector swung at Bruce.
Hal crushed the attack with a construct.
"Hector, stop!" Hal shouted.
"I'll save you!"
"Save me?" Hector laughed.
"Then feel what I feel!"
He reached for Hal.
His fingers cracked open, yellow blood oozing out.
Hal didn't move.
"Haha!" Hector roared.
"Now you'll be like me!"
Fear Energy lashed out-
And stopped.
A thin green film blocked it.
"You think I'm stupid?" Hal pulled back.
"Self-defense."
"You lied to me!" Hector screamed.
He burst his fingers completely, spraying yellow blood in every direction.
He wanted everyone infected.
The blood froze midair.
Morin had stopped it with electromagnetism.
"Alright," Morin yawned.
"Playtime's over."
"He's too weak to be useful for training."
"Let's talk about Parallax."
"Can he be cured?" Hal asked.
"I can't do it," Morin said.
"Ask Abin Sur."
"I will."
Morin turned to Bruce.
"And you..."
"What are you plotting?"
Bruce frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"I can sense your emotions," Morin said.
"You crave that energy."
"Bruce?" Clark stared at him.
"A little," Bruce admitted.
"Energy is just energy."
"I want to control fear."
"Not let it control me."
"Can you help?"
"You're very direct," Morin noted.
"But you can't just touch it."
"You'd need a ring."
"A Yellow Ring."
Fear Lantern Batman...
That could work.
Morin thought quietly.
I wonder who'd be stronger.
Yellow Lantern Sinestro...
Or Yellow Lantern Batman?
