Just as Morin and Gaius had guessed.
The news of an Adjudicator arriving at the Continental Hotel, along with corresponding photos, was quickly verified by the Hawkeye organization and reported to the relevant High Table personnel.
And so, they quickly received a message from the High Table:
The Adjudicator was a fake!
The Rome Continental Hotel.
The receptionist, along with a team of assassins, arrived at the door of the gallery.
They had received a message from the High Table, and as Gaius's loyal subordinates, they were naturally the most anxious. So, they immediately came here with some men.
"Knock, knock."
The receptionist knocked on the door and said in a voice as normal as possible. "Sir, Mr. Batius is here to see you."
"Sir?"
"Sir?"
...
Silence. There was no response from inside, as if no one was there.
"..." The receptionist was silent, looked at the people around him, and nodded.
A few seconds later, they all stepped forward, kicked the door open, rushed in with their guns raised, and found Gaius lying on the ground, unconscious!
"Sir!"
The receptionist rushed in. He saw Gaius lying on the ground, unconscious!
The others remained on guard, one by one, and began to search every corner of the room, looking for the fake Adjudicator.
In fact, they now all knew the person's real identity; it was very likely the Templar Knight who had come to assassinate Gaius!
The assassins poured into the gallery, which was being used as a meeting room. They silently searched every nook and cranny over and over again, but they couldn't find any trace of the Templar Knight.
The assassins looked at each other in disbelief.
There had been people at the door all along, and there was no secret passage in the meeting room, and the surrounding glass had not been broken.
So, how did this person disappear?
Even after using all sorts of high-tech equipment, they still came up empty-handed!
"Ugh..."
With a groan, Gaius woke up from his unconsciousness. He felt a sharp pain from the back of his head.
"Sir? You're awake?" The receptionist, who had been waiting by Gaius's side, quickly picked up a glass of water. "Have some water first..."
"Gulp, gulp." Gaius instinctively drank a few sips and looked at the receptionist with a vacant expression for a while before his eyes finally began to focus.
"Parsley..." Gaius struggled to get up. "What happened? Why am I here? What time is it? How long was I out?"
"Sir, please don't get agitated," Parsley comforted him. "You were only unconscious for about an hour. It's all over..."
"Tell me what happened!" Gaius said.
"That... the Adjudicator was a fake," Parsley said.
"When we received the message from the High Table, we came to rescue you, but we found only you in the meeting room. The fake Adjudicator had disappeared!"
"Disappeared?" Gaius frowned, not sure if it was because of the physical pain in his head or because he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"How is that possible? There's only one way in and out of the meeting room. People were guarding the door, so how could we not know how that person left? How could that person just disappear?"
"That's a question for you, Mr. Gaius," a man pushed the door open. The several men who followed him immediately knocked down Gaius's men who were guarding the door.
"I am the Adjudicator. I came here specifically for this matter."
"Adjudicator?" Gaius chuckled. "I have a certain fear of that word now."
"You should be afraid of it. That man was nothing but a reckless thief," the Adjudicator's tone was cold. He walked over to Gaius's bed and looked down at him.
"I have a few questions for you, Mr. Gaius."
With that, without waiting for Gaius to answer, the Adjudicator began to ask his questions, one after another.
"Why did that person disappear?"
"Was that person a Templar Knight?"
"What did he say to you during the twenty minutes and thirty-two seconds you were alone in that room?"
"One last question, why didn't he kill you and just hit you on the head with a blunt object?"
There were no cameras or recording devices in the meeting room.
Gaius was silent for a moment, then looked at the Adjudicator with cold eyes.
"Are you questioning me?"
"This is a question from the High Table," the Adjudicator made no excuses, his face still cold.
This was the Adjudicator's attitude, and it was also the High Table's attitude.
All they had to do was demand accountability. That was enough.
"I don't know," Gaius narrowed his eyes and said slowly. "That fake Adjudicator just knocked me out instantly. After that, I don't remember anything."
"So, a Templar Knight impersonated an Adjudicator, came all the way to the Rome Continental Hotel to see you, only to knock you out?"
The Adjudicator asked rhetorically.
Then, he stood up. "Mr. Gaius, given that your behavior may have violated the principle of absolute obedience to the High Table, I am giving you three hours to return to the Rome Continental Hotel. I will temporarily suspend your qualifications as a Continental Hotel owner and appoint a new owner."
"An owner?" Gaius asked in anger. "I am the owner of the Continental Hotel!"
"Under the High Table," the Adjudicator ignored him, turned, and prepared to leave.
"Have you ever thought that his goal might be to keep me alive to make you all suspicious of me?"
Gaius asked coldly as the Adjudicator walked to the door.
"That's exactly why we're going to remove you from your position," the Adjudicator's steps didn't slow down, and he left directly. This time, he didn't even bother to say "temporarily."
Or maybe he forgot... Is that possible?
"Sir..." Parsley looked at Gaius, who had a cold expression on his face, with worry.
"Parsley, how long does it take to get from here to the Rome Continental Hotel?" Gaius asked a completely unrelated question.
"Sir... about half an hour," Parsley replied, confused.
"Have everyone around here leave. I need an hour of quiet," Gaius said.
"Sir, you shouldn't be like this..."
"Just do it!" Gaius looked at Parsley with an angry expression, which startled her.
"...Yes." Parsley answered softly. "I'll go tell them immediately."
"Wait!"
When Parsley got to the door, Gaius called out to her again. After a long pause, he asked,
"Parsley, if, and I mean if, I were to do something that might lead to our deaths, would you follow me?"
"I can't guarantee for anyone else, sir," Parsley turned around and smiled. "But I will follow in your footsteps until the day I die, sir."
"...Hmm," Gaius was silent for a moment, then nodded. "You may go now."
Parsley left and closed the door, and then she went to carry out Gaius's orders.
Gaius leaned back and let out a long sigh.
After a while.
"As you wish, Mr. Morin."
In the private ward where only Gaius remained, Gaius opened his eyes, which were filled with a cold light, and said in a low voice.
"I agree to your deal."
