Chapter 79 - Chapter 79: Initiative in Combat

After these rounds of shooting, Henry found that he could empty a 15-round Winchester Rifle magazine in perhaps only 7 or 8 seconds, and his movements had become much more agile and fast, able to run 6 or 7 meters in half a second.

As soon as the gunfire ceased, Henry immediately jumped out from around the corner. Once he had stabilized himself, he fired at the machine gunner in the gate's watchtower, over 200 meters away. At this distance, with focused shooting, he could still achieve a hundred hits out of a hundred shots.

"Bang bang bang bang!" This time, Henry fired four shots. Enduring the machine gunner's delayed two-second sweep, he caused both machine gunners to fall backward, and for a moment, all four Gatlings simultaneously went silent.

Henry only paid the price of a green bead empty shell dissipating.

"Bang bang bang bang!" Henry stood his ground and fired at the assistant machine gunners who had just replaced the fallen machine gunners in the two watchtowers to his left and right.

He killed two more machine gunners, immediately leaving only 3 sentries in each of those two watchtowers.

However, a Gatling normally requires 4 soldiers to operate, so the threat from these two watchtowers was greatly reduced.

His brazenness ignited the anger of the remaining four gate guards, who revealed themselves and fired at him.

Henry did not use granite to block the bullets because he was unsure if he could completely wipe out these private soldiers tonight.

"Bang bang bang bang." Henry spent three seconds concentrating and firing four bullets, taking down the last four gate guards.

Two white bead empty shells dissipated.

"Bang bang bang bang." Henry again took down the newly replaced machine gunners behind the two Gatlings in the gate's watchtower.

Now, each of the four tall towers only had 3 guards, which was insufficient to operate a Gatling normally, and now no one even dared to leave cover to go to the machine gunner's position.

The scene momentarily fell into an eerie calm, with Henry, alone with his rifle, suppressing four machine guns.

It seemed he alone was a thousand armies.

Henry fired 10 more shots, extinguishing the closest gas lamp, then stopped firing to reload his rifle.

A guard in the right watchtower saw this and shouted, "His rifle is out of bullets! Now's our chance to kill him, quick!"

Finally out of bullets!

This devil's rifle must have been modified; it actually fired so many shots continuously!

The sentries in the four watchtowers pushed away the bodies of their fallen comrades from the firing positions and took up positions at the Gatling guns.

"Bang bang bang bang!" Henry raised his rifle and fired four consecutive shots, reducing the personnel in the four watchtowers to 2 each.

At this moment, the manor gate suddenly opened wide, and 50 gunmen rushed out, quickly fanning out, and fired at Henry.

Qi An, seeing the other party so arrogant, decided not to tolerate it any longer. Taking advantage of the other party reloading, he decisively gave the order for the ambushers to attack.

He had only intended to lure the enemy deeper, to expose more enemies, and had consequently lost six more gate guards and 12 machine gunners from the four tall towers.

Qi An was now heartbroken and filled with regret.

This marksman was simply too accurate!

Such a terrifying marksman enemy must die!

Qi An believed that such a terrifying gunman was certainly the enemy's ace, appearing inexplicably, and that losing even one would be a huge loss for the enemy.

Henry noticed these ambushers the moment they rushed out of the gate. He raised his rifle and fired at them, not aiming for headshots.

After spending 5 seconds firing 10 bullets, taking down the first 10 ambushers who rushed out, Henry sprinted like a flash towards the corner 2 or 3 meters away, quickly hiding behind it.

Sixteen white empty shells silently dissipated.

This was the power of concentrated fire; the remaining 40 ambushers probably fired over 120 shots, even though many of them hadn't found stable footing.

Qi An, taking advantage of Henry being suppressed, sent 3 new machine gunners to each of the four watchtowers.

Henry reloaded his rifle, waiting quietly—they didn't have storage space, so such intense firepower wouldn't last long.

As the gunfire became sparse, Henry immediately flashed out half his body and fired at the ambushers.

His sharp gaze immediately noticed 6 private soldiers rushing towards the two watchtowers on the left and right; he immediately prioritized attacking these six.

"Bang bang bang," the soul-reaping gunshots rang out.

This time, Henry, disregarding everything, fired for 15 seconds through the sparse gunfire of the ambushers, emptying 30 bullets from two rifles, taking down another 24 ambushers in addition to those 6 private soldiers.

When the two machine guns at the main gate started firing again, Henry again hid behind the corner.

Another 12 white empty shells dissipated.

This time, the cost was much smaller.

Qi An, on the other hand, was furious, simultaneously greatly puzzled.

Was his subordinates' marksmanship so bad?

So many people rushed out, firing at least 300 shots in total, yet the opponent still bounced around like an unkillable cockroach.

Although the lighting was poor where the opponent was due to 10 lights being extinguished, it shouldn't have been like this, right?

Henry calculated in his mind—including the few ambushers still groaning in pain in the square, he had already taken down 75 guards in this manor, which should have weakened about half of the manor's defensive strength.

He had a huge advantage over the people in the manor—he held the initiative in combat.

Henry could leave whenever he wanted, and attack whenever he wanted.

The night was still long, and he was truly not in a hurry.

In a previous timeline, a relatively complete operational team required a reconnaissance team, a combat team, a cleanup team, a logistics team, a medical team, and a support team.

Henry's storage space and the powerful abilities of the release bead allowed him to encompass the functions of all roles except the support team by himself.

He could even take out a hot cup of coffee and drink it, while at least dozens of people in the manor would be stuck waiting him out. It was clear who could last longer.

As the long night wore on, there would always be times when the people in the manor lost focus.

Henry's strategy was to bleed them dry little by little, then launch a strong assault when the time was right.

As for other reinforcements from the McKinley Family, Henry wasn't worried at all.

At the beginning of the nation's founding, American citizens were highly wary of government power.

Aside from the military used for external defense, any violent agency was considered detrimental to civil liberties.

As for personal property and social order, these were believed to be maintained by citizens themselves.

Therefore, American police forces had always been insufficient, especially in the vast West.

The security of many cities relied on Security Maintenance Associations, similar to "auxiliary police," to assist official police officers.

The personnel sources for Security Maintenance Associations were very complex, including bandits, thieves, killers, vagrants, and so on; one certainly couldn't expect them to be upright and provide emergency aid.

In fact, the security of Western cities now, besides the sheriff and the auxiliary Security Maintenance Associations, mainly relied on gangs and private or institutional private soldiers.

Additionally, in 1878, the Democratic Party pushed through the Guard Act, which prevented police from requesting military assistance to resolve major cases unless permitted by the federal government.

This meant Henry didn't have to worry about the military.

And the State National Guard listened to the governor and was accountable to the state legislature, having no direct connection to the McKinley Family.

Moreover, in those days, there were no telephones or wireless telegraphs. Who could rush into a fierce battlefield in the dark of night to participate in an unknown struggle?

So, on this night, the McKinley Family could most likely only rely on their own private soldiers.
