"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 244: As If She Could Ever Like Me

The party might have been cut short, but nobody had left yet—everyone seemed to be waiting for news from their respective families.

While Rias was busy giving her report, Draconis Yi found himself face-to-face with a girl.

"Long time no see, Draconis Yi."

She greeted him with a familiar smile.

He studied her for a moment, recognition dawning. "You're... Riser's little sister, right?"

The blonde twin-tailed beauty was unmistakable—Ravel Phoenix, whom he'd met back during the Rating Game.

So she'd come to the party as well.

"Your brother didn't show up?" Draconis Yi asked, keeping the conversation light.

Ravel sighed. "...Thanks to you, he's been moping around ever since."

Draconis Yi couldn't help but laugh. "Just one defeat and he's out of commission?"

"You make it sound so simple," Ravel muttered, exasperated. "Losing to you wrecked his reputation. And then—"

She hesitated, biting her lip.

"And then what?" Draconis Yi pressed.

"...Nothing," she said quickly.

No way she could admit Riser had been utterly crushed by Draconis Yi's victories. He'd talked about reclaiming his pride, but then news arrived that Draconis Yi had taken down a Fallen Angel cadre, and Riser's confidence collapsed all over again.

How was anyone supposed to compete with a monster like that?

Ravel let out another sigh. "Whatever. Sometimes he relies too much on talent. A little setback is good for him. If he gets through this, maybe he'll learn something."

Draconis Yi grinned. "Aren't you his Peerage member? Is it really okay to talk about him like that?"

He didn't actually dislike Riser. If not for Rias's engagement drama, he'd never have crossed paths with the guy—and once that was settled, Riser had faded from his mind.

Ravel shrugged. "After that, I got transferred to my mother's Peerage. She doesn't compete, so I'm basically a free Bishop now."

Draconis Yi blinked. "You can just switch Peerages like that?"

In his mind, Peerage membership was a lifelong bond—there had to be some emotional connection, right? But clearly, devil society played by different rules. Trading or gifting Peerage members was just another transaction.

"Should I congratulate you? But why stick with being a Peerage member?" Draconis Yi asked, amused.

Ravel threw up her hands. "What choice do I have? Even if I wanted to be King, I'd have to reach high-class devil rank first!" She shot him a look that said, Not everyone is a freak like you.

She straightened, her tone suddenly formal. "Anyway, since we're on good terms now, let me give you something—as a token of future friendship."

She handed him a small, ornate vial.

Draconis Yi opened it, eyebrows rising. A Phoenix Tear. The real deal—a drop of this could revive someone from the brink, no matter how grave the wound.

He stared at the vial, a wicked thought crossing his mind. Did the Phoenix family really have so many of these? If he made Ravel cry, would he get a whole stash?

He shook off the idea, genuinely surprised. "This is... a bit much, isn't it?"

"Of course it is! It's supposed to be a gift for high-class devils. But you should accept it gratefully, low-class devil or not—your strength more than qualifies."

She sniffed, cheeks tinged pink, a touch of pride in her voice.

Draconis Yi couldn't help but chuckle. "I'm honored, truly."

He tucked the vial away—no point in being sentimental. Something like this could save a life, his or someone else's.

"Thank you, Ravel," he said, voice warm and sincere.

Years of noble etiquette training had refined his manners; now, he radiated a gentle, polished charm.

Ravel felt her heart skip a beat. He was too handsome, too composed—the kind of guy who made you forget how to breathe.

"It's... it's nothing. So, um... may I call you by your name?"

She fidgeted, avoiding his gaze.

"Of course," Draconis Yi replied, smiling.

"Then... I'll just call you Draconis Yi. Next time, if there's a chance... maybe we could have tea together?"

"Sure. Anytime."

"And... if you don't mind... I could bake a cake myself..."

Her fingers nervously tapped together, face flushed. She tried to cover, mumbling, "I've been practicing making cookies lately..."

Draconis Yi found her shyness odd, but kept his tone gentle. After all, she'd just handed him a gift that could save his life—he owed her kindness.

Ravel beamed, curtsied gracefully, and slipped away, leaving Draconis Yi standing there, bemused.

A pair of arms wrapped around him from behind. Akeno Himejima pressed her cheek to his, voice playful.

"Ara ara, I sense competition."

"...Akeno, what are you talking about?" Draconis Yi groaned.

"That girl might be falling for you~" Akeno teased.

"Don't be ridiculous. I beat up her brother right in front of her—how could she possibly like me?" Draconis Yi waved her off.

Just then, Rias returned with Sona Sitri in tow.

Rias took one look at Akeno clinging to Draconis Yi and huffed, "Akeno, what are you doing? There are people watching!"

Akeno only smiled, hugging Draconis Yi's neck and—without warning—licked his ear.

Rias flushed. "...Enough!"

Sona, standing nearby, watched the scene unfold with her usual unflappable calm, offering no comment.

Finally, after prying Akeno off, Rias bid Sona farewell and turned to the group, smiling.

"The situation's under control for now. Let's head back—and fill everyone in on what happened with Koneko."
