Chapter 86 - Where Are We?

"Jonathan Belmont, your friends called me to come and find you."

The first thing Jonathan did after seeing the condition of this boy—none other than Will—was hand him a bottle of water and some dried food, waiting for him to recover a little.

Will reached out, took what he was given, and looked around with a fearful gaze. "How did you do it?"

"Let's just say I'm special. Now tell me—do you know of any way out of here?" Jonathan sounded eager. When he saw that it was possible to breathe in this place, he removed his suit and tossed it aside.

"Not anywhere near here…"

Jonathan nodded in understanding, then asked, "Do you know what these things are?"

"You don't?" Will was surprised. He looked at Jonathan's clothes—they were certainly strange, as if he had come prepared for this place. But all those thoughts vanished when he heard that Jonathan didn't know what those monsters were.

After considering it for a while, Will quickly said, "My friends called them Demogorgons, but these are different kinds. They weren't real until a week ago. I've been running from them all this time—until now."

"Now tell me, how did you get here?" Jonathan grew more interested the longer he spoke with this boy. He knew that this place now seemed to exist in a dimensional space connected to reality.

"That monster brought me here through a portal…" Will doubted that this man had actually been in contact with his friends.

Jonathan understood. He thought for a few seconds, and after reaching a conclusion, he smiled instinctively. "You can call me Father John. I'm a priest who works with the good guys. You don't need to know much more about me—just that I might be the only person who can get you out of here."

"I'm Will…"

"Good, Will. My only mission in this place is to get you out of here and find the rift that bad people are using. That rift brought you here, so we need to help each other to keep more people from being affected by these monsters." Jonathan hoped the boy would understand.

His true mission was to save Will—that was his real purpose.

The other part of the mission, for which he would receive no reward, was to find the second rift, then seal it with a massive explosion from within to cut off access for the monsters.

Until The Order arrived in this town, Jonathan had decided to cooperate quietly with the government that had requested his help. And since he was already here, there was no reason to refuse.

"You're confused," Jonathan continued, "but you should know that in the world you don't know yet, there are special people like me who handle things like this." He pointed to the monster lying on the ground.

"You're a monster hunter—like in the movies."

Jonathan nodded repeatedly and said, "You couldn't have said it better. That's exactly what I am—a hunter."

Even though he didn't want to reveal too much information, helping this boy could give him many more advantages once he was out of this place.

Jonathan was also interested in the girl called Eleven. She, along with other individuals possessing supernatural abilities, could be useful for the group of superhumans he was forming.

When Will put on his suit, the two of them began walking toward the boy's house. Using firearms with his current abilities would only be for fun, since they wouldn't grant him any extra advantage in combat.

"Where did you come from if it wasn't through the portal I entered?" Will felt surprisingly calm being with someone in this dark place.

Jonathan turned his gaze toward a cluster of inns approaching in the distance and said, "The government discovered a fissure. When we investigated further, we found that another one was being used by an evil scientist. But since we didn't have the resources to seal those rifts, we had to wait—until now."

"Really?"

"Yes, but don't tell anyone about this…" Jonathan unsheathed a machete, pointed in a specific direction, and said, "You can walk that way—you won't find any monsters there, because they'll all be coming for me."

"Shouldn't we run?"

Jonathan smiled and said, "You should run."
