Another three minutes passed, and still no movement. Carol's patience ran out.
"Did you guys light it or not?"
"We did, absolutely, I promise."
They both spoke at once, and seeing Carol's disbelief, they added, "The fire was already burning when we left."
"Then why is there still no movement?"
"Maybe... the fire suppression system in the City of Pleasure is just really good!"
As he said this, Hal sounded very unconvincing. He didn't even believe it himself, so how could he convince anyone else? Sure enough, upon hearing such a ridiculous statement, Carol's face tightened, and she didn't want to say another word.
Hal was so embarrassed he wanted to find a crack to crawl into. A sure thing had turned into this, and in front of the goddess he admired – it was too humiliating.
She must think I'm a good-for-nothing!
Tom seemed to sense his friend's distress and sighed,
"We'll go in again. This time, I promise there won't be any problems."
"No need. I'll handle things tonight myself. You two go home!"
Carol's expression was serious. She didn't want the two of them involved anymore. She could allow them to be afraid and not act, after all, that scoundrel's bad reputation was well-known, but she would never allow friends she had grown up with to lie to her.
Tom had no choice but to pull the dispirited Hal away with him.
Once out on the street, Hal, thinking of something, strode back.
"What are you doing?"
"I can't just leave like this. I'm going to teach that bastard a lesson."
"Are you crazy?"
Tom quickly grabbed him. "That's Young Master Xiao; you're looking for death."
"Others might be scared of him, but I'm not."
Hal's stubbornness flared up. He pushed his friend away forcefully and turned to leave.
Just then, a black BMW drove out of the street, speeding towards the two of them. The bright white headlights illuminated Hal and Tom's terrified faces.
As it got close, the BMW suddenly spun ninety degrees, its rotating rear like a boxer's hook.
Bang!
The two were directly knocked flying, rolling onto the grass, feeling like their bodies were falling apart, in excruciating pain.
"I knew it. You can't mess with that bastard."
Tom cursed, enduring the pain to get up, and pulled Hal to run. After only a few steps, a mountain suddenly appeared before them.
A tall, muscular, cold-faced man appeared in front of them. The big man lowered his head slightly, his emotionless eyes falling on them as if looking at two corpses.
Gulp!
Tom swallowed, his mouth feeling dry.
Hal, however, was fearless and cursed, "You're Luke Xiao's lackey! Let me tell you, I'm not afraid of that wimp who only dares to hide behind the scenes. If he's got guts, he should come see me himself!"
Adam remained silent, his eyes scanning the two of them. After confirming they were the ones he was looking for, he clenched his fist.
Thump, thump!
Two punches later, there were two unconscious unlucky fellows on the ground.
Adam took out his phone and made a call,
"Young Master, I've caught the people. How should I deal with them?"
After receiving a clear reply, Adam walked to a nearby hardware store and bought rope, dye, and a brush. He stripped Tom and Hal, wrote "Arsonist" on their chests with red dye, then tied their hands and feet and hung them from a tree branch.
When he was done, Adam carefully checked to make sure everything was in order, then drove away.
Under the night sky, the two naked men looked like specimens on display. A cold wind blew, making their hair flutter.
A couple passing by saw this scene and exaggeratedly covered their mouths, then unhesitatingly pulled out their phones and took a flurry of pictures. They took pictures, but didn't call the police, because the red letters on the chests of the two naked men were just too striking.
Arsonist!
Since they were criminals, they had to pay the price. Sunbathing naked under the moon wasn't such a bad thing... Carol didn't know what "miserable" life her childhood friends were experiencing. She was currently focused on making Luke look foolish and getting some good revenge.
But things often sound simple in thought and are troublesome in practice.
Ferris Air was a well-known American company with extensive connections in both political and business circles. As the current president of Ferris Company, Carol naturally knew high-ranking officials in the police and political spheres. The problem was, none of the people she knew dared to touch "Young Master Xiao"; they wouldn't even dare to think about it.
It was impossible to use their power to get revenge for herself, so she could only try other approaches.
How about calling those little hussies over?
Carol's eyes lit up, then she shook her head. Those little hussies might get drunk and cause a scene outside the manor under her inducement, but they would never dare to face Luke directly. They didn't have that courage.
Besides them, were there any other options?
Carol lowered her head in thought, and a moment later, she slumped back in her chair, dispirited.
She discovered a cruel truth: she truly had no way to deal with that scumbag.
Damn it!
Carol angrily hit the steering wheel. Just then, a voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
"Your Majesty, do you need us?"
"Shut up, I'm very annoyed right now and don't want to talk to you. Also, I'm Carol Ferris, not your queen."
"The Star Sapphire has chosen you. You are our queen."
"Your Majesty, Zamaron and the Star Sapphire Corps need your leadership. This is your future of infinite glory, and an obligation you must fulfill.
Confused hearts are tightly bound,
Under the dark night, sleep cannot be found,
Wear the ring, adorn your face,
Purple light shines on the world, my love forever reigns in this place,
Your Majesty, open your hands, embrace the purple light, that is your life's mission."
The voice in her mind suddenly became grand, as if coming from an ancient world, magnificent and vast, lingering in her ears like a bell, carrying a will that penetrated her soul.
Carol clutched her head in pain,
"Stop talking, stop talking! I'm not your queen, and I don't want to go to Zamaron. Please leave me alone, okay?"
"Purple light forever illuminates the world, Your Majesty, we can give you power."
"Power?"
Carol frowned slightly, "What power?"
"The power of love, the power of emotion, the power of the mind, the power of rebirth, the power to change objects, and the power of revenge."
A stone shimmering with blue-purple light fell from above, landing in front of Carol Ferris,
"Hold this stone, and you will possess this power."
A strange voice whispered in her mind, like bait cast by a demon, carrying a captivating allure.
Although she desperately wanted power, Carol instinctively felt something was wrong. She constantly fought against the whispers in her mind, yet her arm uncontrollably lifted, reaching for the beautiful-looking stone.
Her eyes also began to change; a purple glow bloomed in her pupils. The purple light rapidly spread, occupying her entire pupil.
"Carol" unhesitatingly grasped the stone.
The stone transformed into a stream of light and merged into Carol's body. Purple radiance bloomed within her, and Carol flew up, suspended in mid-air. Her clothes vanished with the wind, replaced by a revealing, sexy, purple form-fitting bodysuit.
