Chapter 146 - Chapter 146: Appearing on the Show

The couple, having been apart, slept in until past ten the next day. William gazed at Ambrosio, who was tightly embracing him, his heart overflowing with tenderness. He kissed her forehead and carefully got up to wash.

After changing, William picked up the day's newspaper. Sure enough, it was full of news about him. Many papers even featured his yesterday's basketball shot on the front page.

William's 7-for-10 shooting from near the half-court line yesterday shocked all of America. Many basketball legends were sought out by the media for various analyses and conjectures, and his archery incident in London was dug up again.

Shooting 7 out of 10 from half-court was already astonishing to American audiences, but when they saw the video of William's archery in London, they were no longer just surprised; it was as if they had seen God. Was this guy even human?

Becoming a billionaire before the age of 20, accurate at shooting, excellent at archery, and having a girlfriend who was ten times better than theirs—American men were now insanely jealous of William. What was this guy doing coming to New York? Was he here specifically to put them down?

Many people shouted online for William to go back to England, saying New York didn't welcome him. Even the stock market was affected; as soon as it opened at 9 AM, the market fluctuated downwards, making Americans even less welcoming of William.

A New York media personality openly called on the government on television to send William back to England. He believed William was a jinx; as soon as he arrived, the stock market fell, causing many to suffer heavy losses.

There were also some people in the market spreading rumors that William came to New York because he was not optimistic about the stock market, believing it would continue to fall, and that he was already shorting stock indexes. After this rumor spread, many retail investors in the market actually believed it.

Watching TV, William had to seriously consider again whether he should go on a show. He didn't want to be a tool for certain people in the stock market, getting all the blame without any benefits.

William was just thinking about going on a show when he received a call from the hotel lobby. The call said that Oprah herself had come to the hotel to find him, hoping William could appear on The Oprah Show tomorrow night.

Oprah herself came, so what was there to hesitate about? He already had the idea of going on a show. William personally went downstairs to invite Oprah up. After some polite conversation, Oprah directly asked William if he had time to be on her show tomorrow.

William, of course, agreed. After they finalized the show's content, Oprah said goodbye. She didn't have much time; she wondered how many favors she would have to repay for letting William cut in line. However, thinking about William's current popularity in America, Oprah felt it was all worth it.

After seeing Oprah off, William woke up Ambrosio, who was still sound asleep. After having a big lunch at a Michelin three-star restaurant, William took Ambrosio sightseeing in New York.

Their figures and those of paparazzi could be seen occasionally on Fifth Avenue. The New York paparazzi were thrilled today; William and Ambrosio didn't care about being secretly photographed at all. He now had a protective charm, and besides, he didn't have any real mortal enemies at the moment.

Living life again, he decided not to live so hard. After an afternoon of sightseeing, they had dinner and then went to see the movie "Gladiator," returning to the hotel at 11 PM, washing up, and going to bed.

The next day, William took Ambrosio to Oprah's production company. The rights to The Oprah Show were owned by Oprah herself; she had her own production company and was not in a subordinate relationship with the TV station, but rather a cooperative one.

William was cutting in line this time, so he only had ten minutes. William walked into the studio hall to Oprah's welcome, and the audience applauded vigorously and cheered loudly for him.

William was a hot commodity now; many young American girls adored him. Oprah gestured to the audience several times before the venue quieted down, which made Oprah very happy. She knew she had made the right decision this time; William was indeed very popular in America.

"Alright, alright, I know you're all very excited. William Devonshire, England's super genius, Earl heir, billionaire, game producer, archery master, three-point shooter master, welcome, William, please have a seat."

"Thank you," he said before sitting down. Today, he wasn't wearing a suit, but a white T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, looking as young as he was years ago. This was intentional; he wanted to be seen as a young person so that the public's jealousy of him would be less.

"William, thank you for coming to The Oprah Show. Let's discuss the first question: many Americans now believe that your visit to America this time is because of the stock market. What do you have to say about this? Will the stock market really fall again?"

William gave an apologetic look and said, "I also thank you for inviting me to The Oprah Show. I was just about to tell the American public, I'm very sorry, Oprah. You asked me about the stock market, and I can only tell you that I'm sure it will fall again, but I'm not sure when or at what point it will fall."

"Wow, wow!" Hearing William's words, everyone present exclaimed. They hadn't expected William to actually dare to say that.

Oprah quickly asked, "So, you're saying you really came to America this time for the stock market? You know, many people are in despair right now. William, are you sure you want to do this? To cut into the flesh of heavily losing investors again, aren't you afraid of becoming a public enemy?"

"Afraid? Of course, I'm afraid. After all, I live in the real world, and I have to consider public opinion. So, you can rest assured, I have no plans to enter the futures market right now.

In March, I specifically advised the trader at the Swiss National Bank, with whom I had a bet, not to bet against ordinary retail investors. If the National Bank hadn't listened to my advice, it wouldn't have just made a profit of $400 million, but over $2 billion," William said.

Hearing William's words, the audience and Oprah exclaimed, but then couldn't understand. Oprah asked, "So you held back? But that's a bit hard to understand. Why would you do that? In most people's eyes, making money legitimately and legally in the stock market, even if controversial, isn't as important as making money, right?"

William said helplessly, "Public perception of a person, to a certain extent, determines the government's perception of you. I'm confident that I will invest in more businesses in Europe and America in the future, and the market will allow me to earn more money, so I don't want to offend it excessively."

"God, my understanding is, it's not that you can't make more money in the futures market, but that you don't want to?"

William said confidently with a chuckle, "Yes, I am very confident that I can make more money because I am confident that the stock market crash is only temporary, and the market will always recover."

Oprah nodded and then said, "William, you are very confident. Are you sure you can make more than $2 billion in the European and American markets? And let me confirm again, you really didn't come here to trade futures, did you?"

"Of course, I'm here to make money, and I'll bring some people along to make money with me, not to create animosity. I'm very confident that I won't touch futures again for the next few years, I promise."
