"Here it is, my house," Mrs. Meh announced proudly as she swung open the door.
The house was a cozy little place—small but enough for both of them to live comfortably.
It had an old-fashioned charm, with creaky wooden floors, slightly peeling wallpaper, and a faint smell of nostalgia mixed with dust.
The windows were a bit foggy, and the furniture looked like it had seen better days, but it had a warm, inviting feel. It was the kind of place that made you think, This is lived-in, not abandoned.
"Come on in, boys," Mrs. Meh said, stepping aside.
Kai and Leo entered cautiously. As Kai stepped inside, he immediately winced.
"Whoa, this place is... vintage," he said, brushing dust off his sleeve. He sneezed loudly and dramatically. "It's like a museum... of old stuff."
Leo chuckled . "No worries. We'll fix it up. We're practically handyman experts now."
Mrs. Meh smiled warmly. "Sorry it's a little dusty. It hasn't been used for years," she said gently.
Kai grinned mischievously. "No worries—this is the perfect challenge for us. We'll make it shiny again."
Mrs. Meh nodded. "Call me if you need anything. I'll be next door." With a gentle wave, she turned and slowly exited, closing the door behind her.
Kai turned to Leo, flopping onto the couch with a dramatic sigh. "Ah, I'm so tired... that was exhausting—walking, talking, and pretending I'm not a demon."
Leo, already kicking off his shoes, hat and coat, shot him a look. "No kidding. Come on, get up, Demon. We've got work to do." He gestured at the dusty mess around them.
Kai groaned, then with a flick of his hand, the dust and clutter in the room suddenly vanished.
The furniture squeaked and squealed as it snapped into place, and a small pile of old newspapers floated up and disappeared.
Leo stared, eyes wide. "Whoa! Did you see that? You're like a magic demon or something."
Kai grinned smugly. "Yep. I'm basically the house-cleaning demon now."
Leo sighed happily, sinking deeper into the couch. "You know, it's so fun having a brother like you. You make everything... less boring."
Kai's eyes twinkled with mischief. "Yeah, well, don't get used to it. I only do chores when I'm bored."
Without warning, both of them suddenly drooped, their eyelids drooping like they'd been hit with a sleep spell. Neither of them noticed as they drifted off into a peaceful, slightly chaotic sleep—dreaming of dust bunnies and demon magic.
------------------
It was a bright, beautiful morning when Kai heard a knock on the door. Without wasting a second, he darted over and flung it open.
He was wearing his usual grey t-shirt, black jeans, and his purple hair was all over the place—like he'd just rolled out of bed.
His eyes looked tired, like he'd been up all night binge-watching some alien invasion show.
Standing there was Mrs. Meh, pushing a tray of food.
She carried it like a gourmet chef, but the smell told Kai it was probably something simple—maybe kimchi fried rice and some side dishes, a typical Korean breakfast.
"Oi, boys! Come here quickly," she called out, marching in like she was on a mission.
She carefully placed the tray right in the middle of the table, taking a good look around the tiny, cozy house that looked like it had been decorated by someone with a great sense of nostalgia and a questionable sense of space.
"Wow… this place looks shiny," she said, giving a proud nod as if she'd just cleaned the Taj Mahal. "You've outdone yourselves."
Kai nodded solemnly, sitting down on the floor beside her, eyeing the food like a starving wolf.
Just then, she looked around and asked, "Where's the other boy? Leo?"
Kai sighed dramatically, as if he was about to deliver bad news. "Leo… he's hiding behind there," he said, pointing behind a small curtain.
From behind the curtain, Leo emerged—black shorts, a shirt that looked like it was borrowed from a cartoon cat, ears folded backward, and his tail swaying lazily like he was auditioning for a feline version of a dance competition.
Mrs. Meh's eyes widened in disbelief. She whispered, "Oh my god… you're…"
Leo cut her off quickly, "I am a wolf boy." His voice was matter-of-fact, like he was describing the weather.
Mrs. Meh nodded slowly, trying to process. "Come on, Leo, come sit with us," she said calmly, as if she was used to chatting with mythical creatures.
Leo hesitated for a moment, then obeyed, plopping down next to them with a sigh that sounded like a lion conceding defeat.
"So, do you mind telling me… where are you guys from?" Mrs. Meh asked, serving them some kimchi fried rice—because what else would she serve?
Kai and Leo launched into their story: Kai's a demon, and Leo's a Wolf. They explained what brought them here and what might happen each week.
Mrs. Meh listened, eyebrows raised so high they looked like they might pop off. "Hmm… that sounds interesting. I've never encountered… well, demons and Wolf before. Usually, it's just cats and dogs."
The boys kept devouring the food, which Mrs. Meh seemed to take as a sign of their approval.
"If you want money, you need jobs," she said wisely, like she was giving life advice to a couple of superhero sidekicks. "Maybe start looking for work tomorrow—so you can buy clothes, pay the electricity bill, water, and all that boring adult stuff."
Kai chuckled. "Yeah, we don't need much—just clothes. And maybe a castle."
Mrs. Meh nodded seriously, then looked at Leo. "And Leo, I'll keep your secret—if you promise to keep hiding those tails because of humans. Every time I see one, I think I've walked into a circus."
They all burst into giggles.
-------
"Ok, let's find a job… but what can we do?" Kai asked, crossing his arms and giving Leo a serious look—like he was about to negotiate a business deal.
Leo sat on the floor, his black hair sweeping over his forehead like he was auditioning for a mysterious anime villain.
"Hmm… maybe a café," Leo suggested casually, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Kai raised an eyebrow. "What's a café?" he asked, tilting his head as if he'd just been handed a foreign object.
Leo shrugged nonchalantly. "I dunno. It's something I read in a book back at home. Mostly for coffee." He said it like coffee was some kind of magical potion that grants superpowers.
Kai blinked. "A café? Okay… so I'll work there too?"
Leo scoffed, tossing his tail in the air in annoyance. "Nah, you'll probably scare the customers. You're the demon, remember? We don't need people running in horror every time they see you with those horns."
Kai gasped, pretending to look disappointed. " I don't have Horns. I am half demon half human"
Kai pondered for a moment, then pointed at Leo with a smirk. "You? You're the cat with ears. You should probably stay here and keep the house clean. Not roam around with your tail."
Leo rolled his eyes. "Great, I'll be the house cat… literally. And Just so you know am not a cat but a wolf"
Leo grinned. "Exactly. Plus, I'll need to visit to make sure you're not turning the Café into a portal to another dimension… or maybe just to check if you're not sleeping on the counter in your clothes."
Kai chuckled. "Hey! I prefer to call it 'fashionably exhausted.'"
Leo snorted. "Yeah, sure. I won't forget to visit me at the café—so I can see if you've learned how to make coffee.''.
